Chapter 45 - Chapter Forty-Four : Carlos bought Avalon Corp.

As tension hung in the air within the confines of the conference room, Felicity's voice pierced the silence, carrying both urgency and revelation. "We have managed to uncover a lead regarding the company responsible for poaching three of our esteemed heads of department. Surprisingly, it is none other than Avalon Corp itself," she announced, her words landing like a weighty revelation.

Kathryn's brows furrowed, an expression of disbelief etched upon her face as she interjected with a sense of conviction. "Wait a minute, Star Corp and Avalon Corp have had a long-standing positive relationship. We just signed off on a joint collaboration last week. It simply doesn't make sense for Jack Copper, their CEO, to poach my staff," she asserted, her voice tinged with an air of certainty.

Felicity, ever the embodiment of thoroughness, proceeded to shed more light on the perplexing situation. Speaking as a confidante and trusted secretary, she shared the fruits of her investigations. "From the information we have managed to gather thus far, it appears that Avalon Corp underwent a change in ownership. The new owner, wielding significant authority, directed the poaching of our staff, offering them irresistible deals they simply couldn't refuse."

The revelation hung in the air, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the room. The tangled web of corporate alliances, shifting loyalties, and clandestine maneuvers had thrust their once harmonious relationship into a maelstrom of confusion and intrigue.

Kathryn's voice trembled with a mixture of shock and disbelief, her words echoing the thoughts that permeated the minds of those present.

"Sold? How is it possible that there has been no mention or hint of a sale or acquisition of Avalon? When did this take place, and who is this new CEO?" Her question hung in the air, laden with a sense of urgency and a thirst for answers.

Felicity, a member of the team caught in the web of uncertainty, offered a somber response, her tone weighted with disappointment.

"Regrettably, no concrete information about the specifics has emerged thus far," she admitted, her words resonating with the shared frustration within the room. The sense of mystery surrounding the sudden turn of events only deepened as the team exchanged perplexed glances.

In that moment, questions outnumbered answers, and an aura of anticipation mingled with concern settled upon them all.

A nagging sense of unease crept over her, her instincts whispering that something was undeniably amiss. In her experience, her intuition had proven itself to be an infallible guide—a compass unfailing in its accuracy. She couldn't ignore the weight of her gut feeling. What chain of events could have led Jack, a custodian of Avalon for generations, to part ways with the company?

As she leaned in, attentively absorbing the discussions unfolding within her team, a collective effort to navigate the current challenge, she recognized the gravity of the situation at hand. Ideas swirled around the room, each suggestion carrying its own merits and implications. The team, driven by a shared commitment to the company's well-being, sought a resolution that would safeguard Star corporation's future.

Ultimately, they reached a consensus, recognizing that it was paramount to protect the company's interests. In light of the new complications, they devised a strategic course of action. Every staff member would be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), thus reinforcing the confidentiality of proprietary information. Moreover, an additional stipulation would be added, preventing key department heads from joining rival companies, thereby preserving Star Corporation competitive advantage.

The decision was not taken lightly. It was a necessary step to safeguard the company's stability and integrity during a precarious time. A united front was essential to navigate the turbulent waters that lay ahead.

Kathryn adjourned the meeting till Friday and left for her office.

"Ma'am you have an e-invite from Avalon corp" Yvette said while walking beside Kathryn.

"What is it for?" She asked.

"An invite to Avalon fifty years anniversary" Yvetter said.

"Hmmm, you may go" Kathryn said and entered her office.

As she entered her office, her eyes instantly caught sight of an unexpected occupant who had taken her seat. Surprised and taken aback, she instinctively took a step back, contemplating whether to seek assistance from the security personnel stationed nearby. However, after a moment's reflection, she decided against involving them.

Maintaining her composure, Kathryn approached the intruder, her voice calm yet laced with a hint of admonition.

"It is considered quite impolite to enter someone's office uninvited and claim a seat that is not yours," she asserted, her words carrying a firm but forgiving tone. With each step, she distanced herself from the unfamiliar table.

In a moment of suspense, the chair slowly swiveled, turning to face Kathryn as if acknowledging her presence. As the enigma occupying the seat fully came into view, her voice hitched ever so slightly, stifling a gasp of recognition. The face that emerged was one she never anticipated.

Yvette's fingers danced across the keyboard as she immersed herself in her work, oblivious to the world around her. The rhythmic tapping of keys echoed through the office until it was abruptly interrupted by the jarring ring of the office phone. Startled, she hastily reached for the receiver, adopting a professional tone in her response.

"Hello, Star Corporation. How may we be of service?" Yvette answered, her voice crisp and composed, a testament to her office etiquette.

The coarse voice on the other end momentarily stole her breath, her heart skipping several beats as she recognized the familiar tone. It was a voice she had not heard in a while, and hoped wouldn't hear atleast for now.

"Yvette, how have you been?" the voice inquired, each word resonating with a weight of history and unspoken memories. Her grip tightened around the receiver, her fingers trembling ever so slightly as his presence seemingly filled the air.

"Sir, this is the office line," she whispered, her voice laced with caution and a hint of desperation. She swiftly moved, closing the blinds of her office, seeking a sense of privacy in a world fraught with hidden dangers.

The voice persisted, their concern veiled within the question. "What happened to your phone? It's been off for the past week," he inquired, unaware of the turmoil his inquiry unleashed within her.

A momentary pause hung in the air as Yvette, her mind working in overdrive, conjured a response. "No thanks to your boys, the phone was damaged during the accident, and I haven't been able to locate it," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of defensiveness as she wove her carefully crafted lie, hoping it would go undetected in the current exchange.

The air hung heavy with an unsettling silence that set Yvette's nerves on edge. She anxiously awaited his next instructions, her mind racing with a mix of trepidation and curiosity.

"Get yourself a new phone and contact me. However, that's not the primary reason for my call," his voice pierced through the quiet, accompanied by the distinct sound of exhaling cigarette smoke drifting into the air.

A sense of urgency tinged his words as he continued, his tone veiled with an air of secrecy. "I need you to ensure that you attend the Avalon Anniversary event alongside Davina," he instructed, his voice laced with a certain determination. "Your task is to discreetly arrange for our meeting without anyone suspecting a thing. Do you understand?"

Yvette's heart raced, the gravity of his request sinking in. Uncertainty and unease mingled as she comprehended the weight of this clandestine mission.

A wave of speechlessness washed over Yvette, leaving her momentarily lost for words. She struggled to comprehend the audacity of his request, her mind racing to find a way to counter his plans. The implications of his presence at the upcoming Avalon Corp anniversary event gnawed at her thoughts, unraveling a tangled web of suspicions.

A sudden realization flickered in her mind, illuminating the dark corners of the puzzle. "He's the one who acquired Avalon Corp," she whispered, her voice trembling. The magnitude of his power and influence left her unsettled. What could his true intentions be? The question loomed like a shadow in her mind, demanding answers she couldn't yet fathom.

Summoning her courage, Yvette made an attempt to push back against his directives. "But sir, what you're asking of me is simply impossible," she implored, her voice carrying a sense of earnestness. "I am a mere personal assistant. It is highly unlikely that she would permit me to accompany her to such an important event."

Her reasoning, however, was swiftly dismissed, met with a dismissive disregard. His intentions appeared resolute, his ears closed to her concerns. The weight of her excuses fell upon deaf ears, leaving Yvette grasping for a solution amidst the daunting task that lay before her.

"Find a way—I don't care," he declared abruptly, severing the connection and leaving Yvette in a state of disarray. Confusion and bewilderment drowned her thoughts as she grappled with the weight of his enigmatic request. The lingering implications continued to haunt her, tugging at her sense of reason.

Lost in contemplation, Yvette was abruptly jolted back to reality by the shrill ring of the private office phone. Her body tensed, a shiver coursing down her spine, but she swiftly composed herself and answered the call after the first ring.

"Yes, ma'am," Yvette responded, her voice masked with a sense of professionalism despite the remnants of uneasiness that clung to her thoughts.

"Reschedule all my appointments for the day," Kathryn's voice commanded, but she detected a hint of concern underlying her tone. Sensing Yvette's unease, Kathryn probed further, seeking assurance. "Yvette, are you alright?" she inquired, her concern evident.

"I am, ma'am," Yvette quickly replied, striving to maintain a composed demeanor.

"Very well," Kathryn affirmed before ending the call. The line went silent, leaving Yvette to navigate the storm of stress and confusion that swirled within her.

Sinking back into her seat, the weight of the situation pressed upon Yvette's shoulders. Stress and confusion intermingled, enveloping her thoughts in a cloud of uncertainty. She couldn't shake off the feeling of being caught in a labyrinth of unknowns, unsure of the path she should navigate amidst the chaos
