I opened my eyes to see the sunlight peeking through my bedroom window. I lay there staring at the rays for a moment, admiring them until I heard a knock on my room door that tore me away from my slight trance.
"Are you really going to be late on your first day of your new school?"
The voice of a woman echoed behind my closed room door. I heard a slight knock and then the sound of my door being pulled and from outside my room a dark-skinned woman at a height of 5 ft walked in.
"Get up Jon"
She shouted at me with a look of irritation on her face, I looked at her with apathetic eyes and proceeded to sit up on my bed pulling the cover off of me I turned to look at her.
"Well good morning to you too my beloved sister."
I said to her sarcastically while getting out of bed. I started to stretch while I walked up to her and stopped in front of her. I looked down at her noticing that she was dressed for work.
She had on a black business suit with an ID around her neck which meant that she was ready to leave out at any time. She looked up at me with an annoyed face for a moment and then proceeded to let out a small sigh and turned around to walk out of my room.
"I left breakfast on the table. Go get yourself a shower, Eat your breakfast, and head straight to school." She said to me while walking out of the room.
"Aye, Aye sir," I replied to her with a Lethargic tone which seemed to upset her.
"I mean it Jon" She turned her head swiftly to look at me.
I looked into her now narrowed eyes to see the look of anger reflecting off of her light brown eyes that promised consequences if I didn't follow her order.
"Okay, okay I promise I'll go."
I put my hands up as a sign of defeat to show her that I was taking her seriously. She looked at me with confusion then proceeded to shake her head and continue walking out. As she was approaching the front door I once again heard her voice across the house.
"I don't care how smart or talented you think you are. Everyone needs an education in this day and age."
She said to me as she stood with her bag at the front door. She wasn't speaking particularly loud but I could hear her quite well. Her voice once again reached my ears when I was lost in thought.
"Why can't you apply yourself more Jon?"
Her voice echoed inside my head as I stood there staring at her. An expression of melancholy flashed across her face for a brief moment until she sighed once more turned around to open the door and walked out of the house.
"I'll see you when I get home later. I love you." She said as she closed the door behind her. I stood there listening to her footsteps as they faded away in the distance.
"I love you too, Natasha" I muttered under my breath and turned around heading back to my room.
Entering my room I stared at the bed that I just slept on and decided to tidy it before I headed to the bathroom to take a shower.
'It isn't like you can't apply yourself you just don't see the point of it. The world is as if you're watching an old movie in black and white. Your world is totally stripped of colors, everything just seems pointless to you, isn't that right? Jon?'
As I was making my bed I heard a voice resounding in my head. I glanced at my dresser that was across from my bed on the other side of my bedroom. I saw someone sitting on the bed next to me.
"Why do I have to see your shitty face and hear your disgusting voice so early in the morning." I ignored the figure and continued making the bed as if he wasn't there.
'Well that was harsh, you do know we share the same face and voice right?'
The figure spoke again much to my annoyance, I sighed and headed towards the bathroom ignoring the figure once again.
After forty-five minutes of getting ready for school, I stood in front of the mirror looking at myself. I was wearing a white shirt with a blue tie hanging loosely from my neck with a pair of khaki pants that went with a pair of black sneakers with white bottoms. I had my shirt hanging outside of my pants instead of tucked in.
I stared at myself in the mirror contemplating if I should tighten my tie for a minute until I decided to let it hang loosely around my neck.
'I must say I look good as ever.'
The figure's reflection appeared again in the mirror standing beside me. A look of irritation appeared on my face as I glanced at him. He was dressed the same way as me much to my annoyance.
"I'm the one who looks good not you," I said as I turned around and walked toward the dining room to warm up my breakfast. After looking at what my sister prepared for my breakfast a small smile appeared.
'Pancakes and scrabbled eggs with hot chocolate.' My favorite thing to eat for breakfast, That's what she made for me at the thought of her getting up and making pancakes for me I couldn't help smiling.
I sat in silence for fifteen minutes eating my breakfast and after I was done I placed the dishes in the sink and proceeded to walk back to my room to grab my bag and phone.
Putting my headphones on I proceeded to head towards the door. As I opened the door and walked through it I stopped and looked back.
"I'll be back."
I said and proceeded to close the door. I walked off with my headphones over my head listening to music, heading towards the bus stop.
***
After about a twenty-five-minute bus ride I finally arrived in front of the school gate. I looked at the school walls that were painted white and blue and then turned my head to look up at the school gate which was painted red.
The metal gates were beautifully designed and the deep red that it was painted in attracted my eyes to it instantly due to it being a lot darker than the bright blue and white that were on the outer walls of the school.
As I stood there staring I started to notice the students around me entering the gate whispering things to their friends as they walked by me, one of them even pointed at me while letting out a small laugh along with his friend.
I turned my apathetic gaze back towards the school gate paying the passing students no mind contemplating if I should go in or not, Just then I felt a hand touch my shoulder from behind me.
In a surprise, I quickly turned my head around to glare at the person who dared to put their hand on me. But before I could say anything the person stepped back quickly also surprised at my sudden movement.
Noticing this I regained my composure from my initial surprise and took a good look at the person who touched me. It was a girl, She was about 5ft 5 inches in height she wore eyeglasses with a purple frame I couldn't tell if they were test glasses or not but they surprisingly went well with light brown eyes as she looked at me, She was dark skinned just like myself however her skin color was a bit lighter than mine.
She was wearing a white blouse highlighted by a short blue tie, She was also wearing a dark blue skirt an inch or so below the knee. But her attire wasn't what caught me it was her eyes.
The angle from which the sun hit her face made her light brown eyes give off a slight golden glow and for one minute, one long and awkward minute I was captivated by them. I got lost looking at that slight golden glow that they let off while they looked at me.
Within that small window of time, While I was looking into her eyes all of a sudden my world was filled with colors. The dull black-and-white world that I've always seen was filled with colors for that one minute.
Staring at the shock and confusion that were reflecting out of her eyes a sudden movement broke me out of my thoughts, regaining my composure I could see her moving her hand pointing to her ear.
Instantly picking up what she meant I took my headphones off so that I could hear her. Seeing that I took off my headphones she put on a small smile on her face and started talking.
" I'm sorry to startle you like that but I was calling out to you but you weren't hearing me so I decided to get your attention another way" The girl apologized, I put an apathetic look back on my face and replied to her.
"No need to apologize. I was blocking the way and I was wearing headphones so it was my fault." I said to her with a straight face.
"You're a transfer student right?" She asked with a puzzled look on her face.
"That's right, but how did you know?" Curious as to how she arrived at that conclusion I decided to ask her.
"I'm a very social person at times so I have a lot of friends and I know a lot of faces, and looking at your uniform, It is the uniform of the second-year male students of this school, and since I'm also in the second year from my time here I have never glimpse your face once. And I never forget a face, I'm confident about that. Using all of that I deduced that you were a transfer student. But you can just call it a lucky guess."
She replied to me with a slight smirk on her face. Seeing this I came to two conclusions, the first one was that this girl was extremely confident in herself and the second one was that this girl was extremely smart. Those were two excellent traits in a leader, I made a note of that in the back of my head.
"You're pretty smart aren't you?"
"What made you say that? Is it the glasses?" She said with a small smile as she began walking closer to me.
"No, I can just tell that you're smart," I said to her while watching her walk closer to me, stopping in front of my face. She stared at me briefly before putting on a small smile.
"No way, I'm just a regular student like you," she said to me.
"I see, I might have misjudged you then," I said while looking down into her face, She lifted her hands and grabbed my tie, and she proceeded to tighten it around my neck while slightly pulling it towards her which caused me to lean in her direction.
At her unexpected actions, I glared down at her face in confusion and surprise to see a small smile on her face. She proceeded to let go of the tie and walked past me, she took a few steps and stopped in front of the gate then turned to me.
" I'll show you the way to the principal office. She doesn't like it when students' attire looks untidy so your tie needed to be fixed. Follow me." She said as she continued through the gates.
Staring at her walking ahead I let out a small sigh and decided to follow her, But before I could start I heard a familiar voice echoing in my head. Glancing at my right I saw the figure appear beside me.
' That girl snuck up on you. Even while wearing headphones, not many people are able to do that. I think she's quite dangerous.' The figure said to me with a look of seriousness on his face.
The figure wore the exact same clothing as me, he had the same eyes, the same skin tone, the same voice, and even the same face as me. In fact, that figure is me, but also he isn't me at the same time.
'Jon, she managed to surprise you not once but twice. Take this seriously, she's dangerous. I can feel it.'
I ignored what some people may call my alter ego was saying to me. I thought the other me was overthinking things so I ignored him and started walking looking at the girl walking ahead of me. I thought back to what happened just moments prior, the look in her eyes when she was fixing my tie, and then I proceeded to take a glance around me to see the other students staring at me, some were staring at her as well.
"At least I won't be too bored," I muttered to myself as I picked up the pace to catch up to her.
