El Mar te encontrara (El Mar will find you)

- is written in a folded up paper on my desk.

I scrunch my brows in thought and hastily stuff the paper inside my bag when the school bell rings.

The students barge into the classroom and I sit on my chair while tapping my pen on my desk twice listening to the teacher talking about how the Earth is going to disappear because of global warming.

I take out my notebook and start to scribble down notes but somehow I get lost halfway and when I'm aware of what I jolted down on my notebook I squeeze my eyes shut.

Escóndete, corre si puedes (Hide, run if you can)

This is the start of the messages popping up everywhere I go. I know a little bit of spanish since my mama is from the Dominican Republic so translating these sentences isn't hard.

I tear the page from my notebook and keep it in my bag, again.

I rub at my forehead in thought of what El Mar they could be talking about.

El Mar = the sea

Do I have to go to the sea and drown myself?

Is this some kind of sick joke for me to kill myself?

My eyes stray from the teacher to the basketball courtyard outside. Pure rage engulf me as I make my way out of the class ignoring the teacher's call and rush toward the court.

"Get the fuck away from her!" I push at blondie's chest til she falls on her ass.

"What the fuck?!" Zara aka blondie curses out and points an accusing finger on me. "You!"

"You ok?" ignoring Zara, I ask Dalia my cousin who's now crying because of the bully across from us.

She nods vigorously and pulls my sleeve. "Quiero ir a casa, Cara." She sobs. (i want to go home)

"Vale, vamos." I guide her to the parking lot to my motorbike. (ok, let's go)

I feel a gaze at the back of my head, I whip my head back to the courtyard locking eyes with one of the boys sitting on the bench with his friends, he's blowing out smokes that comes from the cigarette that is now between his fingers.

I wait for him to avert his gaze from me but when I realize that's not gonna happen anytime soon, I glare at him.

What he does next makes me steaming from head to toe, he smirks. I hate it when they act all cocky and shit.

Rolling my eyes at the imbecile I turn on the engine of my bike and signal for Dalia to get on. I rev the engine once, twice before zooming out of the school.

Later at dinner, everyone is silent and the only sound is coming from the clinking of the silverware all around the table. Aunt Maria is looking at me expectantly as if waiting for me to admit to the sin I did. I ignore her scrutinizing gaze and focus back on my plate.

Dalia is playing with her food, uncle Pablo cuts into his steak and chews loudly.

Dinner was torture.

I go back to my room after doing the dishes and flop to my bed.

I unlock my phone and stare at the clock

30:00

Thirty?

I blink a couple times and then look at the time again.

19:30

Huh.

Pitter patter of the rain knock on my window, I look outside and decide to go for a walk.

I put on my hood and walk on the sidewalk, not even caring for an umbrella.

I pass by a beach and stop on my track. This El Mar has been clouding my thoughts. What can it mean?

Right as I take a left turn away from the beach, a rock hit my back.

I turn around and meet again with those eyes. The boy from before.

"What?" I ask, not bothering for any formalities, let's be real it ended when he decides to throw a rock at my back like- that shit fucking hurts.

"You interest me, Cara." He says with a teasing tone and takes one threatening step towards me but I stay rooted to my spot.

"I'm not even gonna ask how you know my name." I pry my eyes away from his and look behind him at his car. "Why are you here?"

"Why are you?" He questions back.

"I ask first gilipollas." I snatch the cigarette from his hand, taking a long drag from it and hand it back to him. (douchebag)

"I guess none of us will answer then."

"Good, I don't have any interest in knowing about you anyway." I bring the cigarette we're sharing now to my lips and take another drag. "This has been fun. I'm taking this with me." I put the cigarette in between my lips and walk back home. After walking for a while, I feel uneasy, so I turn my head and roll my eyes when I see his car following me home. "Whatever." I mutter under my breath and give him the bird.

I can feel his smirk from here. He's a weirdo, and I don't need to associate myself with someone like him. It's useless. I have to focus on finding out about this 'El Mar'.

We reach my home after a few minutes and I nod at him once indicating 'this is me' and get inside the house, looking outside from the window next to the front door to watch him drive away.

I rush to my bedroom and open my laptop and start to hack into the school system searching for the guy from before.

Ángel García is his name.

He's the same age as me. 17.

We have the same class tomorrow, Spanish.

Great.
