"Well, hello there, Mr and Ms Suisha."
While seated at our table, Ylna approached us casually. She had a nihilistic grin on her face. Not even now, I can't tell whether she's seen through us—or maybe just me—or she's acting like she doesn't know.
"Hello there, miss."
Mei greeted her. Ylna glanced at me with a somewhat bored look. She grabbed a seat and placed it at our table. She made herself comfortable, only looking at Mei.
"I've only heard about your company now. You seem to be very influential."
Wait... Does this mean that she hasn't found us out? Ylna is ignoring me. That's good though, now I won't have to engage in conversation.
"Oh, I don't think of myself like that."
Mei replied rather vaguely.
All the nobles around us were listening in on this conversation because Ylna, the person who infatuates them, is involved.
"If possible, I'd like to be friends with you."
"Well, that will be impossible then."
"Huh?"
Ylna's smile twitched. She didn't expect to be rejected so readily. Mei looked at her nails as if she were disinterested.
"You talk about a Godslayer in detail and say that we can defeat it. The real question is... where is the Godslayer?"
She spoke aloud to affirm the doubts that the nobles probably were sealing in the depths of their mind. The reason they accepted Ylna without questioning it is because of two things. Saito Eiji and Ylna's race.
Because she's something unusual, they use her unusualness and mystery as an excuse. They want to believe a Godslayer exists. Well... it does...
"That's something you'll simply have to trust us with. We have an easy way to obtain it."
It was unclear whether it was the truth or a lie. It didn't matter anyway. I can already guess what Mei wants to do.
"Trust you? I don't remember hearing a name."
"I'm—"
"Besides, taking out the gods will only aggregate them. You're all known. Not all gods are restricted by the laws of the world or the World Origin. Besides, gods and deities have been around for a century or so. Killing all of them will destroy the new harmony that the world has achieved."
Mei is trying to dissuade anyone from wanting the Godslayer. From the looks of it, it's working. People are starting to second guess their decision.
"But, you don't know about it, do you?"
Ylna wasn't angry or provoked. Now that I think about it, I've rarely seen her without a look of entertainment on her face.
"About?"
Mei was curious.
"A village out in the countryside was culled."
"Is that supposed to mean something?"
"I said, culled. The question should be, by whom? I'll answer it. The gods. They destroyed the village and they've destroyed a bunch more too. This makes obvious what their goal is. The elimination of humanity."
That assumption may not be far off. Ms Kanata was afraid of the gods culling the surface, meanwhile, Arthur said that he and his people deserved to be killed since they knew the truth about the Imperi.
"Perhaps, but you know that the only ones who can rival them are the Six Great Noble Families and a few others like the saints in the Council. That's around 300 people against a lot more gods."
"It doesn't matter if I don't have support from all of you nobles. I will get the Godslayer and kill all gods."
She looked at the ceiling.
"I will kill all gods to better this world."
Ylna venomously spat. For once, she appeared serious.
Strangely enough, we have the same goal. To kill gods, however, the result is different.
Ylna wants to kill all gods, bringing the world's stable system down. I want to kill only some gods like the ones who told Eris to destroy Arthur's village. In a nutshell, the evil ones.
"Like the Ms Suisha here is trying to explain,"
William Goldengate became involved. He stood behind Ylna.
"What you're doing is suicide. Plus, we have no reason to believe this so-called Godslayer exists. You could be trying to take us all down for some reason unknown to us."
Someone has his head unclouded. I'm thankful for that. This little break now turned into a debate of credibility. I'm just going to observe like I've been told to.
As I averted my eyes for a second, I caught Ameri staring at me. Really, what's with her? I'm doubting my disguise.
As I kept eye contact, her face flushed red and she flicked her head away. Embarrassment...? No, the Ameri I knew wouldn't be embarrassed just from eye contact. Then, love?
Back at Interblade, she basically confessed her love to me. I never gave her an answer, did I?
(‹Hey, Kazuya, I don't think this is the time to be fantasising about love right now?!›)
(Woah, don't read my mind!)
I mentally screamed. February frightened me.
(‹Get out of the way! I sense a dense aether signature coming right at you from above! No time! Just get out of the way!›)
Sensing February's panic, I hastily jumped out of my chair onto the table. I kicked William Goldengate away and pulled Mei into my arms, leaping back.
"What was th—?!"
CRASH!
"ACK!"
Something smashed through the ceiling and pinned Ylna to the ground under its foot. It was something large. Something not human.
"What the fuck is that...?"
Mei asked, in my arms.
"I don't know."
(‹Really?! Now of all times?!›)
(What is it, February?! Tell us!)
I could slightly see its figure through the smoke. The most I could tell was that it was something otherworldly.
The small black fairy appeared in front of us. She gritted her teeth.
‹Why do I have to be in this state now of all times?›
"What do you mean? What is that?"
"AAAAHH! S-stop!"
The thing held Ylna by her head and tossed her across the hall. Then, I didn't need answers, I saw it.
‹It's a powerful deity. It's probably here after you or me.›
It was a 7-foot giant. Although from the neck down, it appeared human it wasn't. It was dressed with golden accessories like a king. It had the head of a jackal with piercing golden eyes. Just being in its presence made my heart beat louder.
‹Anubis.›
"Well, fuck. My guess is that the only way to take him down is to kill him, right?"
I asked February. She nodded.
⟨The Singularity, [Sacred Lightning Lv.2], is selected.⟩
⟨The effect duration is one hour.⟩
I sparked with lightning. Anubis didn't take his eyes off me. Whether he goes after me or February, in the end, he'll have to beat me first. I can't believe I'm saying this but... beating a god is my only choice.
