Chapter 42 - THE PAST ME

In the afternoon in Old Berry Town, after most of the people have departed for the war, Nhia walks toward the large egg situated in the middle of the street. Commencing a prayer, he is joined by a few more individuals. During this moment small magic leaks out of Nhia's hand during his prayer without him knowing. The focus then shifts to the inside of the egg, pulsating with intense magic. Delving deeper into this magic, a brain and heart take shape. Zooming into the heart, the scene transitions to a grassy field with a radiant tree at its center. An older Adam and Gand stand by the shiny tree, observing the expansive grass fields. A spiral magic materializes in the grass, and from it, Adam emerges, landing on the grass. He then turns to the older Adam and Gand, questioning to who he is.

The older Adam responds by asserting that identifying his current identity is not the priority; rather, it's crucial for him to focus on improving his condition. Adam, contemplating his hands, concurs. Gand adds that shedding the past, is essential for achieving a rejuvenated body and cleansing oneself of spiritual and mental anguish. As they observe another spiral magic forming in the grass fields, this time black, a darker version of Adam emerges from the black spiral. Dark Adam, in pain, collapses to his knees and begins to cry. Adam, feeling the anguish, understands it intimately, having been in Dark Adam's shoes. Gand advises Adam to kill Dark Adam to liberate himself. Although Adam sympathizes with Dark Adam, he acknowledges the necessity of this action.

Rising to his feet, Dark Adam confronts them all, expressing that no one should endure the profound agony he currently experiencing. Determined to end this suffering, he declares a that he rather die instead of enduring this pain any longer. Dark magic intensifies around his right hand, shaping a bat with black scales. Adam, wiping away his tears, summons a bat adorned with white scales using his own magic. They then clash with each other as the clash of their weapons sends shockwaves reverberating through the realm. Dark Adam, emotionally roaring, proves to be vastly stronger, causing Adam to crash and roll across the grass field. Ascending into the sky, Dark Adam descends with a forceful strike downwards. Adam gazes into Dark Adam's anguished face, empathizing with the profound pain etched across it.

Rising once more, Adam engages in another clash of weapons with Dark Adam. Tears stream down Adam's face as he expresses remorse. This time, Adam emerges victorious in the confrontation, propelling Dark Adam into the sky before he crashes into the grass fields, portions of his form fading away. Undeterred, Dark Adam rises, fueling his rage, causing the realm to darken, and lava pillars erupt from the grass fields. They then clashes weapons again intensely. In numerous clashes, Adam steadily gains the upper hand, slowly inflicting damage upon Dark Adam's fading body. Ultimately, Adam shatters Dark Adam's bat into fragments, causing Dark Adam to collapse onto his knees. Apologizing to Dark Adam, Adam wishes he could have saved himself. Dark Adam, gripping Adam's hand, acknowledges that the indescribable pain will forever be etched in his memory, an inescapable part of his existence. Adam firmly holds Dark Adam's hand and agrees, emphasizing that while destruction to everything may be easy, true strength lies in accepting the past and moving forward.

Adam proceeds to absorbs Dark Adam into himself. Witnessing this, Gand becomes furious, questioning why Adam would absorb Dark Adam into his new form when he and Barbra worked tirelessly to heal him and provide him a fresh start. Adam justifies his decision, acknowledging Dark Adam was right that he can never fully escape his traumatic past. However, he emphasizes that he cannot simply forget Lia and Sam. The older Adam wears a smile, stating that Adam is free to make his choices as long as they align with their end goal. Gand concurs, cautioning Adam to persist on his chosen path but warning against succumbing to the darkness again, as they may not be able to rescue him a second time. Gradually dissolving in magical energy, Adam voices the necessity of eliminating both Lia and Sam to achieve complete healing. The elder Adam applauds, adding that staying close to allies increases their odds in the end game. Puzzled, Adam inquires about their objective. Gand cryptically mentions that Adam will discover it in due time. With that, Adam vanishes in magical essence.

Inside the egg, Adam's top half body begins to takes shape, enveloped in dark magic around his heart. As his body continues to slowly materializes, his eyes open, flooded with memories. Amid the flashes, the image of the unmasked wolf girl captures his attention. Adam contemplates her identity, murmuring his thoughts aloud. Adam perceives a faint trail of magic entering the egg. Seizing this magical essence, he tightens his grip, and as it courses through him, his lower body takes shape. Focusing his thoughts on this magical trace originating from Nhia, Adam accelerates the formation of his body. A crack appears on the egg's surface, and he stretches toward it, radiating in light.

Meanwhile in the mansion, Megan slumbers in her bed and enters a dream. Finding herself once more in the desolate city, panic sets in as explosions rock the surroundings, causing her to stumble. Amidst the chaos, a faint voice reaches her ears. Megan rushes toward the sound and discovers an injured old lady. Without hesitation, she approaches and employs her healing magic to mend the old lady's wounds. Another tremor courses through the city, causing the ground to split beneath them. Megan is thrown onto a rooftop, landing beside a water well. Slowly rising, she catches sight of her reflection and realizes she's adorned in a wedding dress. Wiping blood from her forehead, she turns to witness a distant explosion. Suddenly, a suited man crashes in front of Megan. The suited man's face is obscured by magic, preventing her from seeing his face. The faceless man remarks on the formidable strength of the creatures.

Inquiring about the status of the wedding, Megan receives the response that it will need to be postponed by the suit man. However, before the man can complete his sentence, a massive wolf descends before them. In response, Megan swiftly summons her magical staff, preparing for battle. The man explains that this wolf isn't an ordinary one; it is a demigod. Undeterred, Megan confidently asserts that their track record in battles indicates this one won't be markedly different from their previous encounters. The wolf unleashes a howl, enveloping the entire area with magic, prompting Megan to commence chanting a spell. The dream abruptly concludes there, and Megan awakens to find her wounds mostly healed, adorned with makeup. A maid enters, informing her that Master Jarvis is ready to see her. Megan takes a deep breath and follows the maid.

Moments later, they step into a lavishly decorated room with red paint and scattered rose petals. Megan stands in the center of the room, facing a large bed. The maid offers her a teacup, and after taking a sip, Megan hands it back as the maid bows and exits. Nearby curtains open to unveil a vast window leading to another room. Spotting Duke in the corner, Megan rushes to the window, calling his name. Duke responds, pleading for her to save him. Jarvis opens the door to Duke's room, wearing a smile, and declares it's a family reunion. He expresses that he has been anticipating this moment since the first time he laid eyes on Megan, desiring this event to be more than just ordinary. Jarvis intends to make it special, an event that he has always fantasized about. He names this occurrence "pain and pleasure to start anew." Jarvis's body trembles as a black panther emerges from within him, prowling around the room. He closes and locks the door, swiftly entering Megan's room.

Duke, frightened, pleads for his mother to save him. Enraged, Megan punches the window, but it has little effect. She continues to strike the door with her fist while Jarvis undresses and lies in bed. Megan delivers a powerful punch, cracking the window a little bit and catching Jarvis off guard. However, before she can throw another punch, she suddenly becomes paralyzed, watching helplessly as Duke tries to evade the Panther's attacks. Jarvis reveals that he drugged the tea Megan consumed, rendering her less resistant. Striding over unclothed, he drags Megan to the bed, positioning her to witness Duke's peril in the other room. Excitedly, Jarvis begins undressing Megan, kissing and touching her body parts. Megan, immobilized, can only watch as the panther menaces Duke, who pleads for his mother's intervention.

Jarvis revels in the simultaneous experience of pain and pleasure. The panther inflicts a cut on Duke's back, leading to agonized pleas. Jarvis proceeds to undress Megan's pant, expressing that this marks their new beginning. The panther bites onto Duke's shoulder and releases magic into Duke, engulfing him in black flames. Duke's agonized screams echo through Megan's room. Witnessing the Panther dropping Duke's burning body, Megan is overcome with rage. In a transformative moment, magical lights sparkle in Megan's eyes, prompting her to cast a healing spell she remembers from her dreams, purging the drug from her system. Reacting swiftly, she punches Jarvis in the nose, sending him flying across the room. Drawing upon another spell from her dreams, Megan summons a light spear, which she hurls through the window, piercing the panther and causing it to dissipate in magic.

Jarvis chuckles, rising slowly with a bloody nose, expressing surprise at Megan's ability to cast magic spells. Unfazed, he declares his intent to incapacitate her by severing her limbs and charges in with panther claws. Megan, fueled by rage, retaliates with a powerful upward kick that connects with Jarvis's chin, propelling him through the many roofs. He then crashes into the backyard of the Mansion. Moving to another room, Megan witnesses Duke's charred body. Emotionally overwhelmed, she falls to her knees, expressing remorse for not being able to save him in time. Attempting to cast a healing magic spell on Duke, only sparks of magic emanate from Megan's hand. Persistent in her efforts, she continues to try, but each attempt proves futile. Overwhelmed with despair, Megan sheds tears as her attempts to heal Duke remain unsuccessful. Duke weakly moves his hand, gently touching Megan's face, expressing a wish that he was stronger. His hand falls away, and he succumbs to his wounds, sending Megan into an emotional upheaval. Clutching onto her son's lifeless body, she cries out in grief, vowing to avenge Duke by killing Jarvis.

Nearby the cabin, Conor and Vass engage in archery practice, with Vass revealing that being around him has stirred some dormant magic within himself. Afterward, they enter Conor's treehouse, where Vass reclines on a branch and expresses a desire to meet Conor's family, describing them as seemingly kind and powerful individuals. Conor reflects briefly and confesses that he doesn't spend much time with his family. Vass encourages him to invest more time with them, but Conor admits feeling uneasy due to the choices his mother has made, which make him feel sick around her. Vass suggests that he wants to eat better proper food. Conor conveys that if Vass is keen on enjoying better food, he can spend a day with his family. Excitedly, Vass suggests they should hurry. However, Conor asserts that he won't be joining them and emphasizes that, under no circumstances, should Vass teach Sam anything about magic. Perplexed, Vass inquires why he's prohibited from teaching Sam magic. Conor leans in and whispers to Vass's ear, revealing that Sam is pure evil.

Shortly afterward, Vass approaches the front door of the cabin and knocks. Sam answers, recognizing Vass as the person often seen with Conor. Vass explains that Conor saved him from his impending doom, which is why he sticks around. He asks if he can come in. Sam, curious about Conor's whereabouts, inquires. Vass responds that Conor chose not to accompany him. Sam smiles, welcoming Vass inside. They settle on the couch, and Sam instructs Lia to prepare food for their guest. Lia emerges from her room, introduces herself to Vass, and begins cooking.

During their conversation, Sam asks about how Conor saved Vass, prompting Vass to recount the entire story from New Berry Town. Sam is impressed by the narrative and proceeds to inquire if Conor has taught Vass any magic. Vass admits to having learned a bit. Intrigued, Sam requests Vass to teach him magic too. Vass initially refuses but upon hearing Sam's daughter crying from the adjacent room, Sam goes to comfort her, picks her up and returns to Vass, asserting that he cannot be a bad person if he's nurturing such a beautiful family. Moreover, he points out that if Vass refuses to teach him magic, Vass won't have the chance to eat. Faced with the temptation of Lia's delectable cooking and swayed by Sam's persuasive gaze, Vass grapples with the decision before finally relenting and agreeing to teach Sam magic in exchange for a meal.

An hour elapses, and Conor remains in his treehouse, gazing at his exquisite knife. He expresses a wish for his father's swift recovery, harboring regret for having shot him. Conor acknowledges that if only he had known, he could have prevented his father's mental breakdown. Suddenly sensing something amiss in the vicinity, Conor rushes towards the cabin. At the cabin, Vass concludes his meal, having shared his magical knowledge with Sam, who is amazed and begins to focus, producing small magic from his hand. Sam expresses gratitude to Vass. Their moment is interrupted by a knock at the door. Vass presumes it to be Conor and moves to answer. However, upon opening the door, he is met by five hooded men who inquire about anyone in the household skilled in archery.

Sensing the imminent danger, Sam reacts quickly, unleashing a magic blast from his hand that propels one of the hooded men backward, causing a crash onto the ground. The remaining four hooded figures turn to assess their fallen comrade. However, the downed hooded man swiftly recovers, darting into the cabin with remarkable speed. He seizes Vass and Sam by the throat, forcefully pinning them against the wall. As the hooded man's hood falls away, revealing a face adorned with scars and bright red eyes, he declares his quest for the individual skilled in archery.

To counter the assailant's grip, Vass and Sam unite their magical abilities to push away the man across the room. Sam intensifies more of his magic and quickly moves to secure Lia and his daughter. With a burst of magic, they teleport away, leaving Vass behind to contend with the intruder. Employing his string magic, the man secures Vass in bonds. Conor arrives at the cabin and materializes his magical bow, shooting five arrows at the adversaries. However, the enemies effortlessly catch the magical arrows with their bare hands. The man confidently declares that they have identified their target. Stepping out of the house, he informs Conor that he is the one he's have been seeking. Sporting a smile, he confronts Conor, ready for engagement.
