"Sha… Shazam!"
The divine power of the magic lasso made it impossible for Black Adam to resist. He couldn't control himself and uttered that word.
Crack!
A thunderbolt descended from the sky, replacing the weakened figure of Black Adam with a tall, thin, and withered man dressed in Egyptian-slave attire. He collapsed powerlessly like a receding tide.
The Lasso of Truth had always been the nemesis of Shazam and Black Adam, capturing them and in a single word could revert them to their original forms.
"What's going on?"
Diana was stunned.
"He was originally a Khandaq slave from a thousand years ago, with powers derived from a magical contract with the gods. He needs a special word to transform..." David explained the whole story.
Diana was unaware of the Lasso of Truth's ability to counter Black Adam; she had been relying on the Sword of Vulcan, hoping it would be the key to defeating him.
However, thanks to Maahn's courage, Black Adam had some resistance to mental intrusion or mind control. The Lasso of Truth couldn't defeat him with just a single phrase; it was useless if they couldn't subdue him.
"Shaz..." Black Adam on the ground desperately wanted to shout "Shazam" again and transform.
Bang!
David raised his hand, delivering a controlled energy shockwave.
Black Adam, clutching his neck, painfully spat out a mouthful of blood. He wanted to speak again, but all that came out was a hoarse, hissing sound. He immediately realized what had happened and felt a mixture of urgency and anger – he had become mute.
"Regardless, you didn't intend to kill Clark and the others. So, I won't kill you today or turn you into a vegetable," David spoke slowly.
Seeing Black Adam bleeding from his mouth, Clark opened his mouth. This time, there was no need to discuss how to deal with this international war criminal who had triggered a war.
Perhaps this was the best solution. Detaining Black Adam would be extremely difficult; conventional prisons wouldn't work for him, even with a muzzle. A momentary lapse, and he could regain his divine power. Now, they didn't have to worry about that problem.
Clark thought about it for a moment.
"Finally, it's over."
Hal Jordan fashioned a splint for his severed arm using Green Lantern energy. Limping alongside the Flash, who had broken ribs, they approached.
Black Adam had exerted too much pressure on them, like a terrifying monster. Seeing him fall, no one dared to relax for even a second.
Cyborg supported Arthur as they approached. Arthur's physique was powerful enough, but facing Black Adam was a different challenge. With Black Adam's brutal strength and speed, he could take their lives in an instant, and they might not even react yet.
Crack, crack.
The system detected damage to the battle armor. Batman conducted some on-site repairs, finally making the Fenrir armor move again. He furrowed his brow and let out a sigh.
"This time, thanks to you.
If not for you, the first task of the Justice League might have ended in defeat, dealing a significant blow to public confidence in us."
Speaking of this, the others looked at David with gratitude. He had saved them from becoming a global laughingstock.
Suddenly, Clark turned his gaze to the sky.
"What's wrong, Superman?" Green Lantern asked.
"Someone..." Clark didn't finish his sentence.
A gust of wind and a blue streak tore through the atmosphere, a figure descending from the sky. A cape billowed behind in the raging wind, and a tall, robust figure seemed to possess the strength to lift mountains. His gaze was firm, unwavering with unshakable faith.
"Where's Black Adam? Did I arrive too late?"
He looked around, furrowing his brow.
Finally, he spotted a somewhat disheveled figure in slave clothes on the ground, having some shadow of the cold and imposing figure from the news.
"You defeated Black Adam?" He raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Who are you?" Hal Jordan asked, a bit annoyed.
What did he mean? Want them to be defeated under Black Adam's hands?
Though, if it weren't for David, things might have played out that way, but the feeling of being looked down upon was unpleasant.
"Don't misunderstand; I didn't mean anything else," Jarod quickly waved his hands.
Glancing at Black Adam, a moment of confusion flashed in Jarod's eyes, like a warrior who had lost his target, unsure of what to do next. It was a stark contrast to his resolute demeanor when he first appeared, ready to level any mountains in his path.
"Now that Black Adam has been dealt with, the wars among nations should subside.
Thank you for returning peace to the land created by the Lord here."
Whoosh!
Jarod finished speaking, raised his fist, turned around, and flew away. The situation deviated from what the priest had instructed, and he wanted to go back and ask the priest what to do next.
The priest was sent by the Lord to guide the lost lambs on Earth; He didn't find anything inappropriate about this action.
"This person..."
Arthur and Cyborg exchanged a glance, both seeing surprise in each other's eyes.
Diana raised an eyebrow; she hadn't seen Jarod's departure speed clearly.
Didn't her mother say that humans are weak? Why does she repeatedly see people among them who can rival gods?
"Did this person also make a contract with a god?"
David squinted his eyes. Jarod's speed surpassed even Clark's now.
Without relying on the gravity field perception anymore, with the power of Shazam, David could now capture the speeds of individuals like Clark and the Flash using only his eyes.
Are there really such powerful beings on Earth? This surprised him.
Not all superpowers on Earth owe their abilities to the meteorites associated with Clark.
In the Marvel Universe, there's a group called mutants, born with various superpowers. While the DC world doesn't have such a group, there are naturally gifted superpowers among humans, although they are rarer compared to ordinary people, called metahumans.
'Such powerful abilities are even rarer.
Even if he's useless in every aspect except speed, that alone is astounding.'
However, as long as he doesn't provoke him, it's not his concern.
"You guys handle the aftermath; I'm going back."
Withdrawing his gaze, David waved his hand.
"Anything wrong? Need help?" Barry Allen, who had just been saved, offered eagerly.
"No, it's fine. I was on my way to the supermarket before getting your message.
My car is still parked on the roadside."
It wasn't a big deal, David casually replied, and he soared into the sky and left.
The group was dumbfounded for a moment, looking at each other.
After the battle with Black Adam, everyone couldn't help but feel a sense of relief, a feeling of having narrowly escaped a catastrophe. Yet, David was relaxed and content, it seemed as easy as a police officer stopping to catch a thief on the way to the supermarket.
David's strength truly shook everyone.
Even Clark was momentarily stunned, somewhat lost in thought.
As an older brother, he remembered that initially, he and his younger brother had their unique strengths. His brother had greater strength, but nowhere near his speed. Initially, he had confidence that, at the very least, he could match his brother in a fair fight.
Now, his brother's strength far surpassed his own, and he couldn't even catch up to David in terms of speed.
...
First killing Siwana, who had stolen the powers of the Seven Deadly Sins, then defeating the previous guardian with the powers of the Six Gods, and after placing the now mute Black Adam in the care of the others, David returned to Smallville and completed his supermarket shopping.
The wizard probably didn't anticipate that the tasks he assigned to David, tasks that might endanger the world in his eyes, would be mostly completed within a day.
Back home, recalling the battle with Black Adam, David decided it would be better to familiarize himself with the newly acquired powers of the Six Gods.
While manipulating divine power and precision control over the release of lightning posed no issues, he wasn't sure about the move Black Adam used to recover from injuries by bathing in lightning.
'It's also the power of the Six Gods. Black Adam can do it, Shazam can do it too.'
Without a doubt, Shazam might still be a child at this point. Having replaced the original Shazam, the abilities he inherited should include this move.
"It should be worth exploring."
...
On a private island near Gotham and Metropolis.
Originally one of the vast assets of the Wayne family, Batman donated it when the idea of establishing the Justice League emerged, turning it into the headquarters for the league.
In a hall with a sublime and sacred style.
A massive round table made of white stone, with no designated head.
Batman took a seat at one of the positions, a chair adorned with a bat symbol, marking it as his.
Among the eight chairs present, one depicted a purple mysterious figure on the backrest. David sat in the seat designated for him.
"I don't feel very comfortable."
After all, he is also a member of the Justice League, whether permanent or occasional, he had to visit the Hall of Justice once it was completed.
"It's just an ordinary oak chair, a bit too hard."
The Flash shrugged.
As someone with a normal physique, he often had to run around, and resting was a luxury for him. Unfortunately, he couldn't enjoy the rare moments of relaxation during meetings.
"We've prepared rooms for you in the base, with all facilities for relaxation and entertainment. I believe when we sit in these positions, what we should do is focus, not relax."
Batman's voice was deep.
"Is that why you chose these chairs when you have all that money?" Barry Allen sighed.
"Where did Clark and the others go?" David looked around; there were only four people present.
"Superman is in Metropolis preventing a slum demolition. There's a natural history museum in Detroit being robbed, and Wonder Woman has gone to apprehend the thieves. Green Lantern is assisting Aquaman in tracking a maritime human trafficking group."
Cyborg briefed him on their whereabouts.
The Flash had just returned after saving over seventy lives from a gas pipeline explosion.
Actually, the base was open in the morning, and Clark and the others had already visited, but David only arrived at noon.
"On Sundays, I usually prefer to sleep until the sun shines on my bedside and then get up."
David chuckled.
This was a habit he developed during his school days.
"Same here." Barry Allen raised his hand with a grin. He had also recently graduated not ago.
"How's the information gathered about him?" Batman turned to Cyborg with a serious expression.
"Almost done. I hacked into some top-secret military databases, and managed to find all available information about him on the internet."
Cyborg was almost equivalent to a god in the realm of the internet, making searching for someone's information a simple task. However, some details were still blocked, requiring some extra effort, even for him.
He waved his hand, projecting an image.
A blue-themed combat suit mixed with white, brown hair, a young and resolute face, a flowing cape, and a Z symbol on the chest.
At a glance, David recognized this as the person from Kandakh.
"Your expression seems serious.
Does he make you uneasy and worried? It seemed to start when you met him in Kandakh."
He looked at Batman.
"Because of his powerful abilities?"
When facing Kandakh, Batman had the same expression as he did now, with tightly pursed lips and a slight frown.
David wasn't surprised by Batman's reaction. This was the man who prepared contingency plans even against himself and his allies to prevent them from going out of control. Facing a stranger with immense power, such a reaction was entirely normal.
"That's not the main reason."
"That day, he spoke with strong religious connotations. He should be a believer."
Batman slowly revealed the potential danger he noticed when encountering Jarod in Kandakh.
"He, like you and Superman, is very young.
But the difference you can see from his actions is that he can firmly carry out what he does but has no independent opinion at all. He appears accustomed to following others' advice and becomes confused when making decisions on his own."
"A young person without strong opinions is not scary. What's frightening is that he possesses great power and is also affiliated with religion."
Religious faith is a double-edged sword. It can make someone firm in their beliefs, unafraid of fire and sword, but it can also drive people to madness and extremism, bringing fear and disaster to others.
"Jarod Dale was born into a devout church family on the British Isles. Before the age of twenty-four, he was no different from an ordinary person, except for his somewhat conservative and old-fashioned personality, always wearing a cross bracelet and carrying a Bible, making him unpopular on campus."
Cyborg brought up information about Jarod.
"However, after turning twenty-four, he displayed unimaginable superpowers. Currently known abilities include super strength, super speed, energy beams, enhanced physique, and gravity manipulation..."
When gravity manipulation was mentioned, everyone in the room glanced at David.
Because they remembered that one of David's abilities was gravity manipulation.
"He joined the Church of the First Redemption, proclaiming himself as the chosen one favored by God. He claimed to be the proof of God's existence and vowed to bring redemption to humanity. He believes he's an angel sent down to Earth by God."
"An angel of God?"
Upon hearing this, David, who had been expressionless until now, raised an eyebrow.
"Does God really exist?
Diana said the Greek gods are real; would God be the same?"
On this topic, Barry Allen rubbed his chin, his face full of excitement and curiosity as he looked at David.
Diana mentioned that this man not only witnessed gods but also killed the son of Heavenly Father. He should know more about this than an ordinary person.
"The omniscient and omnipotent God."
Batman's expression turned grim, as if recalling some unpleasant memories.
Cyborg also had a gloomy look on his face.
Seeing the three of them looking at him, hoping for an answer to this challenging question, David paused and then smiled as he revealed a secret that could shake billions and drive millions into madness.
"God does exist."
