Chapter 1 - Prologue - Fallen Ones

My mind can't keep track of time, it's been too long since it started. Both gold and crimson blood adorn my armor and I flow untouched between my enemies, another strike, another fallen. As I look to my side I see the mangled mess of bodies and weapons, thousands of my brethren will rest in this accursed plain, but we cannot falter, for the fate of our people rests in our hands. A loud cry catches my attention and as I look up, I see a gigantic griffon charging at me, and on its back a mountain of a man, with his flaming sword and golden wings, emanating a sacred aura, as he lands in front of me and I hear.

"You don't know how much I prayed so it didn't come to this, but the Lord's word is final." - He said with an imponent but melancholic voice.

"There's still time my love, you also saw it, there is no place for something like that in our world" - I pleaded.

He got out of his saddle and with a heavy thud he landed on the ground. His silver armor unblemished as a mirror, as he took off his helm and started coming, each step he took, my heart got heavier. We stood looking at each other, our eyes filled with sadness and resolve.

"If the Lord wills it, there must be a reason. Who are we to doubt." He pointed his sword at me, the flames dancing with the wind as he stood with no openings.

"So be it."

I charged at him with everything I've got, but deep inside I know it's just a futile attempt. One move and it's over, I didn't even see him move. He caught me in his arms and as each breath my death drew closer.

"Why did you have to do it, you were everything I've had, what are we to do without you?!"- He said, gone was his bravado as he realized what it had come to.

"You know it had to be done, not for me, but for him" - I said, smiling sadly and touching his face. "And when his time comes, I hope you are there by his side."

As if watching a play, everything unfolded before my eyes from a distant perspective, from the exchange of words to my sword piercing through her heart. It all felt as if I was dreaming.

Sudenlly, the realization of what had happened hit me and with it came the despair.

'Why? Why did it have to be like this? Why did the All Holy choose this fate for me?'

As I hold her in my arms and look at the battlefield, nothing makes sense. Why are we fighting against our own brothers? Are they really to blame for being born as themselves?

At this surge of thoughts in my mind, gone is the cloud that was in front of my eyes, the words from the Lord make less and less sense as the magic influence I was under fades. Looking down and seeing my beloved drawing her last breath, still smiling with no regret as her golden eyes closes it finally snaps.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH" - As if a dragon descended on the realm, a loud roar echoed on the battlefield as he grieved.

SWOSH

Golden wings grew on his back and with a sonic boom they were gone.

Back in the capital, dozens of masked men were searching the city.

"They are gone, Commander, we searched the entirety of the noble quarter and its surroundings"

"Keep looking, they can't be that far" - Ordered a man with his hands on his back, under his mask glowed a bright red eye.

At the gates of the city, a couple in their twenties hurriedly entered a caravan, hiding inside with a bunch of merchants, heading to the farmlands of the Empire, and with them was a baby, with bright golden eyes.
