Chapter 17 - Broken Mind

"Is it necessary to tie me up with a metal web?" Ren says as he struggles to walk along with the mysterious girl.

"Sorry, I have trust issues." the mysterious girl said with a soft and gentle voice. "You betray me once, so I'm not sure if I will trust you again."

"Oh come on, we're 15 years old at that time, I'm a change man now." Ren says with a smirk. "Come on Luna, untie me."

The mysterious girl puts a hand on Ren's mouth, "Don't call me by my real name. "Call me Lunar." Luna said as she opens the door and leads Ren inside.

"Lunar? come on, that's the best you got?" Ren said jokingly. "Joking aside, thank you for helping me Luna."

Luna pushes Ren to a bed and she sits on a chair, she removes her mask and cape, the metal web around Ren starts loosening. When the metal gets loose Ren jumps out of the bed and runs past the doorway.

"Hey wait! you can't go in there!" Luna shouts but Ren keeps running as if he didn't hear anything.

Past the doorway is a large white room with a table in the middle, many computers around it and a chamber full of robots.

"Is this your lab?" Ren asked as he went and grabbed many glass bottles and put them on the table. "This is cool... just like the old times when you used to teach me some things about potions."

"Stop touching my things!" Luna screams at Ren, but Ren didn't mind it and continued to grab things. "By the way, how did you get in a situation like that earlier?"

"Oh, you mean kidnapped? just a little mistake." Ren said with a chuckle.

"A little mistake?" Luna repeated with a raised eyebrow. "Don't you think that's a bit of an understatement, Ren? You were literally kidnapped."

Ren shrugged, "Well, it happens sometimes. It's part of being a superhero. You know, fighting the bad guys and all that."

Luna let out a sigh, "If I didn't go there, I'm sure you'd be dead by now."

Despite her frustration, Ren could sense the care and concern in Luna's voice. He smiled at her, "Thanks, Luna. You always know how to make me feel better."

But just as Ren started to feel at ease, he noticed something strange about the room. There were strange symbols etched into the walls and floor. It looked like something straight out of a science fiction movie.

"What's with all these symbols?" Ren asked, gesturing towards the walls.

"Oh, these?" Luna said, pointing to the symbols. "They're part of the spell that keeps this place hidden. Without them, anyone could accidentally stumble upon this place."

"A spell?" Ren repeated, "You're a wizard now huh, Luna?"

"Not exactly," Luna said with a small smile. "I'm a witch. And yes, I do know a thing or two about magic."

"I think what you mean by magic is super powers," Ren said, "You know you always talk like that."

"Well, there's a lot you don't know about me," Luna said with a wink. "But that's part of the fun, isn't it?"

As Ren explored the room further, he came across a large monitor on the wall with various graphs and charts displaying data that he couldn't understand. His attention was suddenly drawn to a small box in the corner of the room, with a few wires and sensors attached.

"What's that?" He asked, pointing to the box.

"Oh, that's just a device that monitors my super powers," Luna replied casually.

"Super powers?" Ren repeated, confused. "But I thought you mentioned magic earlier?"

Luna shook her head, "No, I didn't. I have super powers, not magic. Those are two completely different things."

Ren was starting to get lost in the conversation, "Oh, okay. Well, what kind of super powers do you have then?"

"Well," Luna paused, thinking for a moment. "Let's see... I have the ability to control electricity, and I can also read minds.

Just then, they heard a loud commotion outside the room. They quickly hid behind the desk, and a group of men in black suits entered the room.

"You're under arrest Ren Olssen." One of them shouted, drawing their weapons.

Luna quickly grabbed Ren and teleported them both behind the monitors, leaving the men baffled and confused as to what just happened.

Ren could feel the shock still coursing through his body. He turned to Luna, still holding her tightly, and asked, "You can teleport? I didn't know you could do that."

Luna smiled, "I can do a lot more than that, Ren. But yes, teleportation is one of my key skills."

"Wow," Ren said, still trying to process everything he had just seen and heard. "You really are an amazing person, Luna."

Luna giggled, "Oh, stop it, you're making me blush. But I guess I am pretty special."

Ren nodded, "That's for sure. But now comes the question. What do we do now?"

Luna put her hands on Ren's shoulders and looked into his eyes, "We stick together, Ren. We always have each other's backs."

"I always thought you didn't have super powers when we first met because you looked shocked when I showed you my powers." Ren says, smiling calmly. "But now you're saying these things to me, do you trust me? what if I leave you again in the middle of a fight?"

Luna thought about it for a second. She had never really trusted anyone as much as she had Ren. Even after he had run away from her all those years ago, she had still cared about him. "Yes, Ren. I do trust you. But I need you to promise me something. If we ever get into a fight, I need you to promise me that no matter what happens, you will not leave me again. Okay?"

After a brief moment of silence, Ren chuckled. "Don't worry, Luna. I'm a changed person now. I know I made some mistakes in the past, but I've learned from them. And besides, we were just kids back then. We didn't know any better. But now, we do."

Luna smiled back at him. "Thank you, Ren. That means a lot to me. And you're right, we were just kids back then. But now, we're older and wiser. And we have each other's backs."

"Let's do this." Ren said as he flew out behind the monitors and tackled one the man in a black suit. Ren knocked the man and sent him flying through the wall, the others pointed their weapons towards Ren but Luna sent a burst of electricity causing them to let go of their weapons.

The group of men fell to the floor, stunned from the sudden burst of electricity. Ren quickly took advantage of the situation and raced towards the rest of the men, knocking them unconscious one by one. Luna watched in awe as Ren effortlessly took down each man with ease.

As the last man fell to the ground, Ren turned to Luna, panting heavily. "Okay, I think we're cool now. Let's figure out who these guys were."

Luna nodded, "Yeah, let's do that. I'll start scanning for clues." She quickly got to work, searching through files and documents on a nearby computer. After a few minutes, she turned to Ren with a shocked expression. "Ren, you need to see this."

"That's the IPMC. I knew it, they're still trying to take out all the vigilantes here." Ren said.

Luna nodded. "We need to be careful around them."

"Yeah, tell me about it," Ren said, rolling his eyes. "I've had a run-in with them before. They're not exactly friendly to vigilantes like us."

Luna smiled, "I know. But together, we can take them down. We just need to be strategic about it."

"Not together, you will stay out of this. This is dangerous and I will take care of this all alone." Ren said, anger filled his eyes. "I have enough of them, one of the vigilantes I'm working with died because of them."

Luna's face fell as she watched Ren's determination grow. She knew he was angry and hurt by the IPMC's actions. But she also knew how dangerous the organization was, and how easily they could take Ren down if he wasn't careful.

"Ren, please listen to me," Luna said, putting a hand on his arm. "I understand how you feel, but this is not something you can take on by yourself. They're trained, well-equipped, and ruthless. You need someone to watch your back."

Ren flies out of the lab without talking back to Luna, he's back in his own usual self, a silent and cold person.

Luna watches as Ren flies out of the lab, his anger and determination clearly visible on his face. She knows she can't change his mind, he's always been stubborn and set in his own ways. But she doesn't want to see him get hurt, or worse.

As Ren disappears into the night, Luna sits back down at her desk, deep in thought. She knows that he's in serious danger, but she also knows that she can't control him. She can only hope that he's careful, and that he comes back in one piece.

She spends the rest of the night researching the IPMC, trying to find any information that might help Ren. She knows it's a long shot, but it's all she can do to help him. As the sun begins to rise, Luna finally shuts down her computer, exhausted and worried for Ren's safety.
