Chapter 140 - The Beginning of the War

Completely paralyzing a city, how long does it take?

As it turns out, just a moment.

In an instant, all power supplies were cut off in the dark of night.

With the complete descent of darkness, Tokyo fell into utter 'chaos.'

The slaughter of vampires and rogue mages, even werewolves and ghouls, all the creatures lurking in the darkness emerged and were mercilessly slaughtering people.

Amidst this darkness and chaos.

Of course, there was still a glimmer of light.

Aside from the buildings that got lit up like torches, there were still the Empire's warriors, mages, alchemists, knights, and soldiers who remained on duty.

There were also local military and police officers. Though they didn't have many roles, while most people chose to escape and retreat like ordinary people, a few brave souls still mustered courage and challenged the forces of evil.

Of course, it had no effect. Whether it was regular handguns, fists, riot batons, or anything else, none of it had any impact on 'The Dead.' {T/N: The Dead are known as the familiars of the Dead Apostles.}

Amidst the Empire's fervent peak of its technology and magecraft prowess, the Dead Apostles were also advancing. Their basic combat weapons of mass reproduction from the original timeline—the Dead, had been magically altered into something unrecognizable.

"That thing looks like a Tyrant."

Standing at the top of the palace, X remarked enthusiastically with Artorius by her side.

"Even though the internal logic and tech trees are completely different. They still look quite similar... Oh, and there's a Licker over there and a Hunter. Could there be something like Alice too?"

No Alice, but Artorius did indeed spot a big figure with a black outfit. What was its name again? BOW? Nemesis? Anyway, it was not important, not worth remembering the name.

Amidst this variety of monsters that replaced the Dead, as they roamed the streets and wreaked havoc, only to be ruthlessly slaughtered by the Empire's elite warriors descending from the sky, known as the 'Dragon Angels'—equipped with individual magic propulsion engines and various powerful weapons like energy swords, magic swords, and magic bullet machine guns.

In just an instant, these monsters, which had covered an entire street like a grotesque, seething pool of flesh, were reduced to ashes by the Dragon Angels.

"Surprisingly not bad." X's evaluation remained enthusiastic.

After the White Wing Lord decided to launch a revenge war against the Dragon Emperor from behind the scenes, all sorts of sinister beings sprang into action.

In response, all of the Empire's defense mechanisms were activated as well.

Hundreds of Dragon Angels, numerous bounded fields, autonomous magic turrets, missiles, and mechanical puppet soldiers turned the entire hotel into a fearsome fortress in an instant.

"Your Majesty, rest assured!" Rudolf, acted as the commander, confidently and wholeheartedly declared, "The Empire's defense is capable of crushing any invading enemy!"

"Yes, I believe you."

After responding to Rudolf, Artorius took out his phone and dialed someone.

Under the shroud of the darkness, the signal quality of the telephone had deteriorated significantly, making it a challenge to hear Agravain's words on the other end.

"Sir Agravain, is it done?"

"..."

"Yeah."

"..."

"Don't worry, it's all under control."

After this brief conversation, Artorius turned his gaze towards the resolute Rudolf.

Clad in a complete set of powered armor, one side had a hologram screen displaying information, while the other side was accompanied by several autonomous turrets floating in midair. Coupled with commander-level spiritron equipment and his exclusive magic sword called the 'Phoenix Butterfly', this luxurious configuration ensured he could triumph over even ordinary Servants.

"You've done well, Major, but the issue is, what I expect isn't merely defense." Artorius spoke calmly as he gazed toward the city, "Aside from our own safety, I'm equally concerned about the safety of the city's populace."

As he spoke, the Servants who were originally going outside or indulging in leisure also encountered danger.

They were under attack.

Attacked by various kinds of monsters.

"Such filthy, evil trash, daring to appear before this king, do you all wish to die?!" Gilgamesh shouted in anger as his face bore evident disgust.

The golden rain, composed of Noble Phantasms, thundered toward the horde of monsters on the opposite side.

Swords, spears, halberds, battle axes—various types of Noble Phantasms in the world—were Gilgamesh's greatest treasure. He used the 'Gate of Babylon' to unleash them upon the surrounding monsters.

The power was naturally astounding.

Although they weren't being used correctly, merely unleashed carelessly, they still had excessive firepower against the monsters.

The sorrowful cries of death resounded while the streets and buildings were constantly shattered. Masses of corpses, foul flesh, and building debris mixed together emitted a foul, nauseating odor, making Gilgamesh even more irritable.

He didn't intend to keep these treasures anymore. After being contaminated by such filth, they were no longer worthy of his collection.

"So disgusting, absolutely disgusting!" Gilgamesh roared in exasperation, "Is this your city?! Is this the city you govern?! Dragon! It's utterly disgusting! Why can a mongrel like you succeed?! Why?!"

Meanwhile, unlike Gilgamesh, Iskandar enjoyed this situation.

Upon confirming the danger, he directly summoned his Noble Phantasm.

A divine chariot pulled by two divine bulls, a formidable chariot known as the Gordius Wheel—Wheel of Heaven's Authority.

The two muscular bulls that pulled the chariot were as if forged from steel, with sharp blades attached to the sides of the chariot itself.

"Time to go, Master!"

Amidst flickering thunder and radiant purple lighting, the chariot boldly rolled through the horde of monsters.

Amidst a series of flying flesh and blood and Waver's screams of agony, the King of Conquerors let out a burst of delighted laughter.

"Yes, this is it! This pleasure of crushing enemies, this pleasure of conquering foes! Give me more, let me savor more of it!"

"Guhahaha!"

And so, Iskandar plunged into the ecstatic frenzy of war.

{T/N: Just in case someone got confused, 'Vampire' is the broad term for those who suck the blood of other living creatures, like Dead Apostles and True Ancestors. Although both are Vampires, they are different kinds.}
