Their date, however, was a complete mess.
Mafuyu clutched his legs, a smile tainted with awkwardness, formed into a straight line. Sweating from his head, the other boy locked his eyes on him. "Anything wrong?" The black-haired boy held the cold glass of parfait, licked his lips, and cleaned the mess of cream on his lips.
"Ah! No! there's nothing!" Mafuyu said nervously. He gripped the parfait tighter as his hand trembled with the silver spoon. It was nothing but cold silence, the two boys simply ate their respective share of parfait in silence.
What should I do?? Can I really save this date? My god, I have never done this before, Mafuyu devoured his parfait in silence.
With the occasional clank of the ceramic plates and chatter from other customers. The place was warm, bustling with people. Smiles on their faces as they eat the food in delight. The employees serve with delight. It seemed that they were the only gloomy couple in this establishment.
Albeit shaken from the presence of the black-haired boy, his gaze went back and forth from his parfait and to his face. His face was redder than strawberry, nervousness replaced by a fuzzy feeling in his stomach. He still couldn't believe that this was happening as his gaze landed everywhere. "Umm... Kazu, what made you accept this invitation?" Mafuyu clutched his parfait even tighter, his eyes were blue, serene, and beautiful; like ocean waves glimmered from the relentless sun.
"There's one thing for sure why I accepted this in the first place: I just thought you're a cool person" Kazu said, as he scoop an colorful assortment of fruits that consists of strawberries, kiwi and banana
"Really? Do you not feel awkward that you're seeing someone of the same sex?"
"Does it matter though? I don't really judge people based on their genders; I really don't care. As long they're fun to be around," he let go of his parfait on the table. "Even with your obvious nervousness, I can tell that-You're definitely the most fun person I ever talked to."
His face was flushed. It looked like he went to a sauna for several hours.
This all happened at a gathering, adorned with a vibrant assortment of flowers. At the center was a wooden box. Furnished with silver ornaments and inside was a glass window to oversee the deceased. The people dressed in black clothing with a stiff fabric. The women wore veils and the children wore a simple black suit. It was a western funeral. Occasionally rowdy and loud, sometimes it was like a ghost-town.
From the crowd, Mafuyu was cladded in an unbreathable black suit. He stood still, stiff as a rock. As the lady in the middle professed her eulogy to the deceased. His hair was well kept, it was those times where he needed to be dressed appropriately or it'd be offensive. Being conservative as it was, the western funeral made it harder.
"Mom⊠I cannot breathe, this suit is too tight!" Mafuyu complained as he stood still.
"Bear with it" His mother whispered.
Mafuyu's body itched beyond comparison. If he moves drastically, it'll rip. He called his mom's attention again and said, "Why are we in a western funeral anyway? We're in Japan, and who is this? I never heard of him."
His mother responded, "He was my roommate back in college, he was an exchange student but he stayed because he loved japan."
Mafuyu stood silently and the eulogies rang around his head. "Excuse me, i gotta go to the bathroom" He bowed and slowly moved. Afterwards in the bathroom, Mafuyu quickly removed the clunky vest suit. He twisted the faucet and held his hand with the cascading water. He rinsed his face with water and slowly went up.
"Ah!" Mafuyu flinched as he saw the black haired boy in the mirror. He smelled like tobacco with his stern expression and messy black hair. The room steadily got foggy as he blew more smoke with his cigarette. Under his eyes are draped with darkness, along with his crumpled dress shirt. He looked mysterious, somewhat like a rebel. Mafuyu stared at him through the pristine mirror, as the boy leaned in at one of the stalls.
"What are you looking at?" said the boy in a demeaning attitude as he exhaled a plume of foul smoke out of his mouth.
Mafuyu flinched and dropped his vest on the wet sink, and caused it to crinkle and sink. "Ah! My vest⊠She's going to kill me" His eyes widened as his mouth creased. "Sorry! I shall go now" He exclaimed, turned around and bowed. He ran out of the bathroom with his wet vest and left droplets of water everywhere.
He went around the house and stopped in front of the smooth wooden door. Quickly twisted the knob and entered the room. Inside was filled with books and videogames, it was spotless. All arranged in order alphabetically. The room was adorned with beige wallpapers that resembled a white coffee. It was different from the other wallpaper of the house, it was blue with repetition of patterns. There was a boy, his disheveled hair was tugged by the wind as he flipped a page from a hardcover book.
The boy's eyes were like amber, with his loosely fitted suit. He haphazardly sat in the corner of his room, oblivious to Mafuyu's existence. 'This boy⊠Oh no, he's the one in the bathroom' Mafuyu panicked. He hurriedly twisted the knob until.
"Who are you?"...
"I- uh- umm, I'm Mafuyu?" He exclaimed and bowed down. The room was silent like a ghost town in a moment. His body tensed up as he felt the tense air crept on his back like spiders.
"Pfft, You're fun," He remarked. "I'm Kazuto Hara, you can call me Kazu."
Mafuyu stood up meekly as he observed Kazu. Up close, he's cleaner than the boy at the bathroom, His are like those of an angel's accompanied by his amber eyes. Kazu stood up and put aside his book on the table. He returned to Mafuyu's stare. His eyes pried on every corner of Mafuyu's body. He simpered and said, "You sure are fun, from looks alone. You're not like the other ones." He drew closer to Mafuyu. "Why don't we become friends?".
Mafuyu looked around the room, avoiding the sight of the boy. He began fidgeting with his hand, "S-sure, why n-not?" He stammered. Suddenly he swiftly twisted the knob and dashed out of the room.
"Ehh?" Kazu looked confused.
Up to this point, they're sitting in a restaurant awkwardly, like a rabbit in a lion's cage
Suddenly... Kazu, with his simple white shirt and jeans. Stood up, he went his way to Mafuyu and clasped his hand with him. "Come, i'll show you something" His eyes glimmered like the stars, full of anticipation.
Kazu led the way, and walked past an empty street with flickering lights and wild cats gathering at the garbage patch in front of a villa. The wind howled and tugged Mafuyu's clothes as he tagged along with Kazu. The cold air caressed his fair cheeks, redder than tomato, as he felt his hand clasped with Kazu's.
They eventually reached a hill, there was an old concrete stair leading up to the top. Mafuyu carefully took a step up, fearing he might mess it up. Eventually, they reached the top. The wind tugged at their clothes as they were greeted by the sight of numerous cherry blossoms, bloomed in the cold dark night, with the streak of moonlight; Illuminating each and every blade of grass. Up in the skies twinkled. Stars scattered unevenly as the huge looming moon gazed upon the two. Mafuyu's lips were wide open, his eyes sparkled like a firecracker. "This is... Beautiful!" Mafuyu exclaimed, still clasped in Kazu's hand. "I wanted you to see this, even for a little while. It's my secret spot, so don't tell anyone about it." His face contorted into a warm smile, his eyes exude radiance that can compare to a campfire on the cold night.
Badumm, Badumm. His heart raced, he couldn't take the excitement as they sat on the lawn of grass and watched the twinkling stars.
"You know this was a fun hangout, let's do it again. This time, it's my treat" Kazu smiled.
"We should," Mafuyu grumbled. They both admired the glimmering stars in the ocean of darkness. Their hands grew up close and touched. Mafuyu was red as a strawberry but Kazu however was oblivious.
"I always loved this place, you're the only one I showed this spot to," Kazu looked at Mafuyu. His eyes shone like the stars up in the skies. His hair tugged with the wind, his breathing was synchronized to Mafuyu. As his heartbeat raced by a tiny fraction.
"I'm looking forward to our next hangout," Mafuyu laid down the patch of grass, and admired the stars. He was in heaven, even for a little while. This is just pure bliss.
"You're the most fun person i even met"
