Asuma : Oh fuck, okay.
He said, getting out of bed to get dressed hurriedly.
Kakashi : Hazuna?
His voice called again.
Asuma : Bye.
Asuma whispered, giving her a peck before jumping out of her window. Hazuna composed herself, opening her door.
Hazuna : Hello, Kakashi.
Kakashi : What took so long?
He asked suspiciously, noticing her dishevelled hair.
Hazuna : Nothing at all.
She lied, letting him into her house.
Asuma and Hazuna had been hooking up for about two months now. No one knew about it, and quite frankly, it would create so many problems if anyone did. There were no feelings involved whatsoever. After all, the only reason she was hooking up with him was to get over her feelings for Kakashi. He was doing the same, trying to get over Kurenai.
Hazuna : Wait here, I am gonna go take a shower.
She told Kakashi, who nodded. He lazily took his book out again, sitting on the couch when he accidentally stepped on something.
A lighter.
He picked it up, examining it when he suddenly recognised it. He wasn't dumb. He knew.
Kakashi : Oh, that's what took her so long.
He felt his stomach sink as his mind began to race with thoughts. Why didn't she tell him? Were they together or was it something else? What the fuck?
His thoughts were interrupted as Hazuna walked out in a towel.
"Great, now I am gonna have a nosebleed."
Hazuna : My eyes are up here, Kakashi sensei.
She said, causing him to get flustered again. But then she turned around. His eyes wandered around her slightly exposed back but froze when he saw a few prominent dark violet marks on her shoulder.
"I can't get mad at her for this, right?", he thought to himself.
"She doesn't even know how I feel about her."
Hazuna : Kakashi?
She walked out of her room.
Kakashi : Huh?
He looked up at her, still holding the lighter.
Suddenly a wave of anger pulsated through him as a mental image of her with Asuma popped up. He was not a person easily angered or agitated by anything but this was enough for him to lose his mind.
"Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no!", Hazuna thought as she saw the lighter Asuma had left behind in his hands.
Kakashi stood up briskly, handing it to her.
Kakashi : He forgot this.
He stormed out of the house. Hazuna sat down on the couch.
Hazuna : Stupid. Fucking stupid.
She muttered under her breath. He found out.
This time Kakashi found himself in a bar, wanting to drink his woes away.
Meanwhile Hazuna went to find Asuma, with her mind made up to immediately end things.
Hazuna : Asuma!
She called out to the jonin.
Asuma : Hazuna?
He said, smirking.
Hazuna : Wipe that smirk off your face.
She said, handing him his lighter.
Hazuna : Kakashi found out.
Asuma : He what?!
He asked, the lighter nearly slipping from his hands.
Asuma : Shit, what if he tells Kurenai?
Hazuna : I don't care. We are ending this.
She said.
Asuma : But-
Hazuna : No buts. Bye.
She ran, now trying to find Kakashi.
The copy ninja sighed, fiddling with his drink.
"Am I overreacting?"
Hazuna : Kakashi. Thank god I found you, I-
He turned to find Hazuna, apparently out of breath.
Kakashi : What is it?
He said, signaling to the chair next to him.
Hazuna : I can explain-
She began to say as she sat down.
Kakashi : Please, do.
He said, trying his best to contain his anger.
Hazuna : Fuck buddies.
She blurted out.
Hazuna : We are fuck buddies. Were fuck buddies. I just ended it, I-
Kakashi : How long have you guys..
He said, indifferently.
Hazuna : Two months.
Kakashi : I see. Why did you end it?
He asked, looking down at his drink.
Hazuna : I just....
She struggled to find an excuse to give him without revealing that she had feelings for him.
Kakashi : Okay, never mind that. Why didn't you tell me?
Once again she had no answer.
Kakashi : It's not like I would judge you, Hazuna.
He said, looking back at her.
Kakashi : Anyway, I understand.
Hazuna : I am sorry, Kakashi.
She said, quietly.
Kakashi : You don't have to be sorry. I was just.... surprised is all.
He said in a low voice.
"And hurt. But I am not gonna make you feel guilty by telling you that.", he thought.
Hazuna : Alright.
She nodded, a little relieved now that she had talked to him.
Hazuna : Well, I have work to get to now so-
Kakashi : Yeah.
He nodded and she began to leave. The seat next to Kakashi was now filled by a regular customer of the bar.
"Ah Kakashi, what brings you here?", the newcomer asked.
Kakashi : Hokage sama?!
Tsunade : Yo.
She said, calling for a bottle of sake.
Kakashi : Hello.
He replied, regaining his laid back, chill persona.
Tsunade : I never see you around here. What's the matter?
Kakashi : Nothing, just felt like drinking.
He said, shrugging.
Tsunade : It's Hazuna, isn't it?
She asked suddenly.
Kakashi : W-what makes you say that?
He asked.
Tsunade : For starters, you stuttered when I asked you and you never stutter. Plus, just a gut feeling.
Kakashi : Fine, it's Hazuna.
He said, resting his face in his hand.
Tsunade : You like her, don't you?
Kakashi : I don't know.
Tsunade : You do know, you just don't wanna admit it.
She said, finishing her drink.
Tsunade : I don't blame you.
Kakashi : What do you mean?
He asked, curiously.
Tsunade : No, I am just saying.
She said.
Tsunade : Who wouldn't fall for a young, powerful, hot kunoichi, an Uchiha at that, who can somehow do medical ninjutsu when she is drunk?
Kakashi : That's true.
He smiled before focusing on the last part.
Kakashi : Wait, she can do medical ninjutsu when she is drunk?
Tsunade : Ah, so you didn't know that about her.
She smiled.
Kakashi : No.
He replied.
Kakashi : But how do you know?
Tsunade : Long story.
She said.
Tsunade : Anyway, what did she do?
Kakashi : It's none of my business.
He replied.
Tsunade : You are way better than Asuma, Kakashi.
She said, smirking.
Kakashi : HOW DO YOU KNOW EVERYTHING?!
He let out an exasperated sigh.
Tsunade : Well, cause I am the Hokage. And from what I know, she didn't even like him.
Kakashi : Hmmm..
He nodded.
Kakashi : Asuma is my friend.
Tsunade : I know. You should tell her how you feel.
She said.
Kakashi : I think I am gonna get going, Hokage sama.
He said, wanting to avoid that conversation.
Tsunade : Fine, your choice.
She replied, giggling a bit as he walked away.
Tsunade : Someday these two are finally gonna get together.
…
Hazuna was now walking around mindlessly. She did leave saying she had work to do but the truth was, she didn't know what else to say to Kakashi.
Lost in thought, she didn't realise when she reached the part of the village where the Nara clan lived.
"Hazuna sensei?", a familiar voice made her lips curl into a small smile.
Hazuna : Shikamaru.
She nodded in greeting.
Shikamaru : What are you doing here?
He asked.
Hazuna : Ah well, not much. You?
Shikamaru : Asuma sensei and I were supposed to play shogi. But he cancelled.
Hazuna : I can play with you, if you want.
She offered, feeling a tinge of guilt at the fact that she might have had something to do with Asuma's cancellation.
Shikamaru : No, it's a drag.
He yawned. She grinned at the boy. It bothered her when someone with so much potential was blocked by his own laziness.
Hazuna : Shut up, Shikamaru.
She put her hands on his shoulders, beckoning him to move forward.
Hazuna : Stop being so lazy all the time. You are a chunin. Let's go.
He groaned.
Shikamaru : Don't complain when you lose then.
Hazuna : I won't.
She smiled.
[ Half an hour later ]
Shikamaru : I.....
He found himself at a loss for words at his defeat.
Hazuna : What was it you were saying about losing?
She yawned.
Hazuna : Get serious.
Shikamaru : I didn't know you played shogi.
He said quietly.
Hazuna : I learned how to play when I was five.
She recalled the memory of playing the game with Fugaku Uchiha and smiled.
Hazuna : But, I haven't played in years so I am a bit rusty.
His mouth hung open.
Shikamaru : I really underestimated you, huh?
Hazuna : That's okay, you are used to playing against Asuma who sucks at shogi.
He smiled lightly as focused on the strategy she had used, marvelling at the thought process that went into it. He nodded, gaining a little motivation for once in his life.
Shikamaru : Alright, one more game.
He said, setting the board again.
Hazuna : That's more like it.
She nodded. It felt good to get her mind off of Kakashi for sometime. As it turned out, Shikamaru defeated her in the very next game.
She was impressed, but not surprised at all. Though, her intelligence was well above average, he was the kind of genius you get to have the pleasure of seeing once in a lifetime.
Hazuna : So, what's up with you and that sand ninja proctor I saw you with during the new chunin exams? Temari, if I am not mistaken?
She asked, enjoying watching him get all flustered.
Shikamaru : N-no, nothing.
He looked away, a light blush forming on his face.
Hazuna : Oh, is that so?
She laughed.
Shikamaru : Urusai! (Shut up!)
He tried to play it off.
Hazuna : Hahah, no.
