Chapter 6 - Emelda

"Emelda! Emelda!!"

On hearing the sound of her name about 190 meters away from her house, Emelda jolted up from the grass of the field where she sat, tired after long hours of practicing to improve her aim in archery.

She was currently in her upgraded state as a level 13 Divino.

She had black silky hair with length which ran down to her shoulders and a complexion very light, almost white.

She wore a tight blue blouse which had a large collar that sat comfortably on her chest, the long sleeve folded up halfway the length of her arms, below the elbow around the ulna region, and coal black sweatpants that covered her laps, stopping before her knee. Covering her legs were big boots that ran up her legs, also stopping before her knee.

She also had a bangle and bead on her left arm.

There were trickles of sweat on her face, neck and arms and her clothes were also soaked in sweat.

In this upgraded state, her arms had grown from about 30 centimeters to about 37 centimeters long. Her legs had extended also and she had limbs that shot out at the lower part of her legs, and her ears protruded upwards in an elf-like shape.

Her ability to hear her mother call out to her from a 190 meter distance was as a result of the potency of her upgraded ear drums which at this level could hear up to 200 meters away from any location she was.

The hearing however, is much limited in the presence of obstacles like buildings or any major solid structures.

For this reason, her favorite training spot was a field not too far from the house, where she could hear anytime her foster mother screamed her name.

She had always taken her foster mother to be a pain because she felt unnecessarily controlled, and not able to live her life freely as she wanted.

Her parents had passed away when she was 10 and because she had no one around to take care of her, her mother's close friend adopted her and had been taking care of her since then.

Mrs. Edga, her foster mom had tried her best to show concern for Emelda since her parents passed, but all her efforts usually came down to being perceived as 'bugging'.

Emelda, since her parents incident had always kept to her self, barely talking to anyone except when unavoidable. Her presence in the house was hardly felt by her foster family; her dad Mr. Edga, her mum Mrs. Edga and her younger brother James.

She was always in her room, alone.

This bothered her foster mom a lot and she was always trying every means to reach out to her but she always showed disinterest.

"Emel-"

"Yes mom, I'm here, what is it again?" Emelda replied her mom as she arrived instantly in front of her, a gust of wind blowing over Mrs Edga.

How did she reach the house 190 meters away this quick?

Well, her upgraded, long legs having limbs were not for decoration.

One of the main abilities of upgraded Divino was their super speed.

Depending on rank, Divino can attain great heights of speed far beyond human capacity.

Being a level 13 Divino, with one of her key developed abilities being speed, Emelda could, at max speed, run up to 200km/hr.

She arrived in front of the house shortly after her mom started calling out her name.

"You've been off training again?" Mrs Edga asked rhetorically.

"Obviously". Emelda said.

She continued. "Is there a problem with that?"

"No my dear, but you promised to help me do the lawn before tomorrow when our guest would be coming". Her mom replied.

"Oh, yeah, that". Emelda replied indifferently.

"I forgot about it. I'll take care of it now that I'm back".

"Thanks my dear, lunch is also ready, do well to help yourself. I know you always train like you're in the middle of some war or something, but we're in a peaceful era my dear, have some fun once in a while. Anyway, I'm going for a little shopping, to be back in an hour. Take care of James and the house. Bye".

Mrs Edga walked off to her destination without waiting for a reply to her goodbye wish to Emelda. It never came anyway.

By now she had already gotten used to Emelda's indifference towards most things in life, especially in her disposure towards showing emotions.

One can't blame her. Losing both parents at an early age isn't an easy thing to handle.

Now that she had been interrupted by her foster mom, Emelda realized how sore tired she was.

She immediately undid her transformation and assumed the perfectly normal human form.

No limbs, normal length of arms and legs, and normal ears.

She felt a wave of relief, flow through her within as she did this.

The strain caused on the body by transformation wasn't the best of experiences.

She entered into the house and headed straight to her room.

Her foster brother James was lying down on the couch in the living room, fast asleep.

Emelda was significantly older than James with 7 years difference in age.

Despite this, she didn't ever seem like the older sibling because of her behavior, asides the fact that James was almost as tall as her and looked mature too.

Though not having an advanced bloodline, James was no weakling.

He had been faithful in attending classes and learning from scrolls to sharpen his ability to use his chi to perform fire techniques.

Currently, he was a level 6 fire user.

Not bad for a 16 year old.

Since his father, was also an instructor and master in fire element, he learnt a thing or two from him whenever he got the chance to meet the mostly busy man.

He had been training since he turned 12, and had been getting better gradually.

She entered her room, pulled her clothes and went into the bathroom. When she was done, she got out of the bathroom with her towel tied around her chest and sat on the bed.

She lay down to rest a bit and slept off.
