Chereads / The Fallen Darkness / Chapter 7 - The Lord

Chapter 7 - The Lord

The And like the moon,

She had a side of her

So dark, that even the stars

Couldn't shine on it;

She had a side of her

So cold, that even the sun

Couldn't burn on it.

"Cabello, give me the documents of the new girl joint recently." asked Lord Theodore to the head maid. Putting down the glass which he was holding on the side table, taking hold of the papers, his dark eyes skimmed the words written on the paper, "is there any mistakes, milord?" Madam cabello nervously asked.

"No there is not, why do you ask?" The Lord of Helcaris replied.

"No milord, I thought she is an imposter sent to deceive us. Now, after recent incident I am more alert." The head maid said with a soft voice. She is practically with the Lord for more than three decades.

"You are right to think that, but I assure you the girl comes from a fine family. There is nothing to worry about" Lord Theodore said with a soft smile to elderly lady.

"You can take your leave now. I have something to discuss with Darius." The Lord continued as he dismissed the head maid.

"Have a good night, milord." The maid bowed and left the chamber hurriedly not wanting to disturb the Lord anymore.

After sometime the lord left for his room. His personal room is on the second floor of the palace. It is quite astonishing that someone is staying on his floor.

It could be considered a very intimate act done by the Lord. Even his cousin lady Laena never stayed on the second floor.

Someone is staying with him on his floor

And that someone is a worthless human in the eyes of the vampires.

This would surely cause a lot of drama in coming days for the Lord and as well as for that young girl. Thought madam cabello.

Lord Theodore walked on the white marbled floor, his footsteps echoing in the narrow corridor with every foot that met the floor. Two servants who stood at one end of the passage bowed their head seeing him come in to view. Not passing a glance to them, he headed straight to his room.

It was almost midnight, when someone knocked on his door.

"Come in, Lawson ," Lord Theodore answered the door, standing at the patio of his room.

"Good evening, milord," the butler came in with a maid pushing a two tier trolley that carried the Lord's meal.

The Lord, seeing his butler with the food spoke, "I will eat later." his eyes moved away from the trolley back to the scenery for a few seconds before stepping back inside, "Though I am thirsty," he said going towards the bed and taking a seat at the edge of it.

Raising his hand, he waited until the maid placed her hand on his and he pulled her towards him swiftly, making the maid stagger next to him. Bringing the maid's hand to his lips, he opened his mouth and the young maid's skin broke under the pressure of fangs, as it sank in to draw warm blood into his mouth. Lord Theodores' parents were pure-blooded vampires, turning him into one while he was born into the highest social class of the society with a strong lineage of pure-blooded vampires.

He usually preferred to have the blood directly than from a container which he was not fond of, as that was mostly not fresh and doesn't smell appealing. Taking the necessary amount of blood from the maid, he retraced back his fangs and moving away to lick his bloodied lips clean.

The maid bowing her head, took back the trolley which she had got on the butlers order.

"Send the food to the third room as well." Said the Lord while moving towards his window.

"-of this floor, milord?" Asked the butler hesitantly.

"Yes, of this floor and close the doors before leaving." Commented Lord with clear annoyance in his voice.

'Close the doors before leaving' clearly indicate him to leave the room as soon as possible if you value your life. The butler is aware of his masters nature and picky mood.

On the other side of the mansion, lilliana had a hard time sleeping in the new bedroom that was given to her. The fluffed pillow and the soft bed underneath did nothing to comfort her. She had twisted and turned the whole night, thinking in her subconsciousness about things that worried her.

She is sure that this is not some random room that is given to some ordinary servant or the food that was sent to her was not something that every servant consume.

But who is she to question the orders of the Lord?

It was still hard for her to digest the fact that the person she had met few minutes ago was the Lord of Helcaris.

She got to know all these from the maid that served her foods. The treatment she is receiving is not ordinary servants would receive on their first day, would they?

She has many questions that needs be answered only by the Lord Theodore.

Streaks of sunlight passed through the creak of the curtains, birds chirping soft and happily at the welcome of the morning. It took lilly's some time to adjust her sleepy eyes before she sat up on the bed, looking at the shadowed room due to the curtains that hindered the light from passing through.

"..." lilliana stuffed her face in the blanket while remembering past night events

She had been completely embarrassed herself during her first encounter and she didn't know how to face him. Last night it took some time for her to recover from the shock but now that she was fully aware she didn't know how to speak to him.

And most importantly she didn't know where she will find her friend in this huge palace, it is very scary to roam in this huge palace alone.

But again it was his fault for intimidating her last night. Maybe it is her fault also to get intimidated by him.

But Fault or not, she had disrespected him, who was one of the Lord in the world and acted like a complete fool infront of him last night.

"Ahh!" She let out a muffled cry. As she felt down from the bed.

"What happened Miss?"

Lilliana snapped her head up to see the butler standing at the door while carrying a bag in his hand which had a dress.

"I am sorry. I didn't hear you. Please come in," she replied getting up from the floor a little embarrassed that he had heard her groan and saw her in a compromising situation. The butler placed the bag down on the floor, "What is that..." she remembered him mentioning his name last night but it had bounced off her head due to the anxiety she was experiencing last night, "...Mr. Butler," she added in the end.

The butler sized her up and down, wondering if the Lord has taken interest in this human girl.

There are rumours in the palace that Lord has brought a girl and she slept on his floor or in his room.

Basically he slept with her?

But she is just a simple petite girl. Looking in her late teens. Probably eighteens or seventeens.

He brushed her last words knowing she had forgotten his name not that it was required after all but still he added "Lawson, butler Lawson" the butler added.

Removing a dress from the bag and placed it on the table.

"Please wear it and come towards to the dining area, Miss?" The butler said while asking her name.

"Lilliana Averdale, but sir why do I have to wear it I'd brought my dresses with me" lilliana asked with a confused face.

"I don't know Miss Averdale. I am just following milords order and I would recommend you to not make him wait any longer than required" the butler hesitated clearly not wanting the young girl to face his majesty's anger.

"But I am not aware of the dining areas way" lilliana admitted.

"It's okay Miss Averdale. This maid will guide you" the butler responded.

"I will take my leave now, miss" the butler left room while murmuring sometimes to himself.

In the mean time lilliana got dressed for the day in a soft and elegant, lilac dress and reached the hall with the help of the maid. The maid called 'Nora' informed her that only Lord Theodore and Sir Darius used to had breakfast on dining table in the absence of lady laena.

She had made an eye contact with the Lord only once since she had arrived at the table which was when she had wished him a good morning and the sir Darius. Keeping her eyes on the floor  and decor her eyes wandered quietly like a curious child.

She did not knew why she is called here. Wasn't she hired to look after the garden?

Standing behind the Lord she is serving him from time to time for anything asked by him as he asked the maids to leave the dining area. The hall is awfully quite and the way Sir Darius is eyeing her is making her more and more nervous.

'What is problem with this man? Why he always makes me nervous as I'd done some sort of crime. Huh!' thought lilliana eyeing design of the table.

The Lord of Helcaris chuckled listening the young girl's thought. She is surely an interesting little creature.

Lilliana's eyes narrowed eyeing the Lords back. 'Why the heaven on this earth he is laughing? Are all the males in this palace suffering from sort of disease? Laughing and talking within themselves?' The young girl is not aware that someone is getting offend by her choice of words.

"So Miss Averdale" The Lord said while wiping his mouth.

"Yes, your highness"

"Don't you have any questions?" The Lord asked while diverting his whole focus towards the Maiden.

"Ab-about what your highness?" She does have many questions but didn't knew which she should asked and which not.

"You're not qualified for that work." the Lord said in the final tone.

"Have I done any mistakes your highness? I-i am really v-very sorry for the last night, it was my mistake I didn't recognised y-you----" lilliana is on the verge of crying as sputtered those words but Theodore know that this girl is feeling anything but sorry.

"Look up while I'm talking to you and I do not appreciate weaklings in my palace." The tears which she was holding now flowed like Nile river listening his strict tone.

'You are the one who is trying to intimidate me.' Though lilliana while trying to muffled down her sniffs.

"I am not a weakling" lilliana mumbled.

"And stop crying----" Lord Theodore sighed clearly regretting raising his voice.

"I am not crying" the young raised her voice and said in a accusing manner 'that you made her cry.'

The Lord of Helcaris didn't appreciate anyone disrespecting him or his people and surely it includes 'this' as well. Darius widened his eyes at the audacity of this young girl and he is more shocked at the Lords behaviour when he left the dining area without a single word. If it would have been him or anyone else they would surely pay this with their life.

'Huh, partiality.'

"You were speaking with the Lord of this country, kid. Better behave from next time if you value your life." Darius refuted eyeing the young girl in front of him. She barely has height of a hamster and had the audacity of dragons. He is clearly displeased by this girl's act. He is loyal to his master in any circumstances and wouldn't tolerate any sort of disrespect for his master.

"I-i am sorry" Lilly gulped. Regretting her mood swings as this is not her house where she can act however she wants.

"You better be and now pack your stuffs, we do not hire manner less people" Darius snapped. Wanting this women to leave the palace as soon as possible for her own good.

"May I ap-apologise from his Highness, please sir." lilliana plead wanting to try her luck, she didn't want to lose this job because of her carelessness and after this who would dare to hire her?

"You can try your luck but I am sure it wouldn't work. His highness do not tolerate disrespect, you should thank your stars that you're still alive and breathing, kid." The man sighed and said while eyeing the women infront of him who is having a little hope.

"Please sir, I just wanted to ask for a reason for not hiring me--"

"Miss Averdale, his Highness asked for your presence in his office." The maid disturbed the two of them.
