Maya pulled Arya out of the room and stood beside the entrance. "You don't want to see this, I don't think I want to either"
"What. What is that, have you seen something similar before?" Arya asked
"Not exactly, but I think I have a vague idea and I'm not ready to scar myself just yet. Somethings are better left unknown" Maya replied and pulled the handle of the door, closing it just enough to let a little streak of light pass through.
Just at that moment, from the crack through the door, a straight line of light streaked into the corridor. It was the full moon escaping from the shadow of clouds it hid behind.
[Transformation will now begin]
Derek heard the voice of the system in his subconscious, the pain that followed after the voice drained what was left of Derek's consciousness.
He screamed in agony as his limbs twisted in weird angles, he tried to support himself on his knees and hands.
Maya and Arya from outside the door could hear what sounded like breaking of bones from the room.
Arya could almost feel the pain from the sounds coming from the room, but she made no attempt to go into the room. She just put her hands over her ears and dropped to a squatting position.
The skin on Derek's body was rapidly changing, new dark skin which was five times tougher than his original skin emerged over his skin.
His fingers bent inward at an awkward angle and then straightened out, his back bone suddenly grew larger and then curved at the end.
While his bones were rapidly rearranging by themselves, the hair all over his body was rapidly multiplying too.
At this point, Derek could no longer scream or howl anymore. He just groaned in pain, the groans were deep and hollow, like they were produced from the depths of his soul.
Just when his body couldn't take it anymore, the changes abruptly stopped.
The night was suddenly silent once again, the girls paused and stared at each other, the silent questions were written in Arya's eyes.
Maya edged towards the door and tried to peer inside but Arya's pulled her back and spun her around face to face.
"What are you doing?" Arya asked
"I'm going to check out what happened"
"We don't even know what that is, we could get killed for all I care" she wondered if Maya hadn't seen what she had seen earlier.
"I thought he was your friend" Maya raised an eyebrow
"I think acquaintance is more like it and I don't know whatever that is, but it can't be Derek" Arya replied in a loud whisper.
She was trying to sound confident, but her tone was betraying her intentions, she was still quite shaken up.
The two girls froze when they heard a series of grunts from inside the room.
Derek had just experienced the worst pain he had ever felt in his entire life, he could see the room in which he was in very clearly.
It seemed strange to him, since he knew that the room was quite dark when he entered. His thoughts were still on the room when his primal instincts took over.
He suddenly felt the need to run into the night and hunt. He raised his head and howled at the full moon.
During the transformation, part of the rope that had been used to bind him had already come loose. He tugged at the ropes in rage, the burglary where the ropes were fastened to came crashing to the floor.
Now free, he sniffed the air. He could almost taste the different smells on the tip of his tongue, though the smell just outside the door seemed the most interesting to him.
On all fours, he slowly made his way to the door, the burglary which was still attached to the rope skittered along the floor as he pulled it along making a hell of a racket.
The two girls standing outside the door were frozen in fright. They considered making a run for it, but remembering how the being had easily distanced them earlier, they soon discarded that line of thought.
They could only pray that whatever it was could not see at night or just be oblivious of their presence, but Maya knew better.
She looked around the corridor where they crouched on the floor and guaged their chances of survival, it seemed very slim. Partially she blamed herself for their current predicament, she was meant to know that a mere rope would not be able to hold a wolf in place.
Though she could cut herself some slack, this was her first such experience, she never knew how it was going to turn out, at least if she survived this, she would have gained a new experience.
But that was not going to be the case if they remained where they stayed crouched outside the door. She could hear the sound of the burglary proof being dragged across the ground slowly and with each second it drew closer.
She looked to the side and stole a quick glance at Arya, she had her head bend and her eyes closed like she was in a silent prayer of some sort.
Maya felt like her chances of survival would have been higher by about thirty percent was she alone, but she had gotten them in this mess and she had to get them out.
She nudged Arya with her knee and whispered softly "at the count of three, we are going to make a run for it. You see the third room on the other side with the door partially open?" She asked to which Arya nodded
"You are going to run like your life depends on it, because it does, do you understand"
Without waiting for a response, Maya raised her hand up once she had finished talking and using her fingers she started to count down.
Three...
Two...
One...
