That afternoon, Rhyland waited outside of Aubrey's class and handed her a cup of iced mocha to celebrate their first day as a "couple."
Playing the part of the caring boyfriend, Rhyland naturally took Aubrey's books from her arms and began to walk by her side.
"Thank you." Aubrey said primly.
"You're welcome, love." Rhyland responded with a smile.
"So how does it feel like to be the hottest thing since sliced bread?" Rhyland asked.
"Dreadful!" Aubrey responded looking thoroughly unhappy and defeated as she took a sip of her iced mocha. It was extra sweet, just the way she liked it. The sugary sweetness of the drink made Aubrey smile and she felt herself be healed. 'How does he know I like sweets?' Aubrey thought to herself. It must be a fluke.
Rhyland looked at Aubrey's satisfied expression after drinking the sugary beverage and chuckled.
