"I shouldve never brought him into this!" Rhyland lamented. He let out a guttural howl. Having just lost the only family of his beloved, he was beset with intense feelings of sorrow, anger and desperation.
He couldn't help but think that the child had died because of him. And such was the case, Emery had died saving him.
Rhyland regretted ever coming to Emery for assistance. At that time, Emery would willingly volunteer to help to save his sister but Rhyland was certain that the man had not known he would face his imminent death in such a gruesome manner. Most of all, Rhyland regretted leaving Aubrey all alone. He knew that to face Wentworth at his state would mean certain death. But he was not afraid. Rhyland had been prepared to die in battle if it meant Aubrey's safety. All he knew was that he needed to stop this psychopath from killing more of his kind.
And so, it was with this resolve that Rhyland carefully handed Emery to Dimitri.
