Chapter 1 - ASTRAEUS

Chapter 1: The perceptive One

Lyon Sirius lay on the ground gazing up at the endless sky above him. His large eyes followed the movement of the clouds, the only creatures able to fly above the ground. As a young Lyrion, his greatest desire was to fly. But unlike his own kind and every other winged race, Lyon didn't have wings. He was born an anomaly, a defect among the Lyrions that was almost unheard of.

Without his wings, Lyon was weaker and slower than his own kind. He struggled to keep up with the others in training and was often pushed aside when it came to missions or battles. Lyon was ostracized by his own people, and he often found himself wandering alone in the forests, searching for his true purpose.

On this particular day, Lyon had ventured out into the nearby woods to collect herbs and food for his household. As he picked the last of the herbs, a sudden gust of wind caught his attention. Above him, a portal had appeared. It was not a welcome sight. Not only did it signify an imminent attack by the VoidSpawn, but it also meant that Lyon would be unable to fly to evade the oncoming danger.

As everyone else fled from the scene, Lyon felt himself entranced by the portal. It was almost as if he could see something that the others could not. It was then that he saw the words "Ultimae Lex" emblazoned on the portal. Lyon could feel the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. There was something about those words that intrigued him.

A momentary feeling of omniscience washed over him, and he was filled with knowledge he had never had before. In his head, he could see a blueprint of sorts, and he knew what he had to do. Without a moment of hesitation, he ran back to his hut and began gathering materials. Lyon worked tirelessly for hours, building his own wings, made from materials he had never used before.

Finally, the artificial wings were complete. Lyon strapped them onto his back, testing them hesitantly. The wings whirred to life at his command, and suddenly, he was in the air. Lyon could feel the power coursing through his body as he weaved through the trees. It was a feeling unlike any other.

When he landed back at the portal, his wings began to falter. The knowledge he had gained disappeared as quickly as it had come, leaving him with nothing but the winged appendages on his back. But there was something else, a guiding system for the wings. They spoke to him, a voice only he could hear.
