It had been a year since Fenris began his training under Rifa. She taught him everything he needed to know about magic in combat - from basic spells to advanced techniques for handling multiple enemies at once.
To celebrate how far Fenris had come in his training and as a way of testing out his new skills, Rifa proposed venturing beyond the countryside plains into Jura Forest - also known as the 'Forest of Monsters' due to its abundance of dangerous creatures.
Together they journeyed deeper into the forest, encountering increasingly lethal enemies such as goblins and wolves that attacked anyone who dared enter their territory. The forest was mountainous and covered in trees which became more jungle-like the further they went in.
Despite knowing how perilous it was to go deep into this area alone, Rifa felt confident enough with her experience as an adventurer-turned-battle mage by her side. Together she believed that they could easily handle any enemy that crossed their path.
"Wow! These enemies are getting tougher to beat!" exclaimed Fenris after defeating another wave of monsters. He couldn't help but notice how much stronger these creatures were compared to those he faced before.
"How are you feeling?" asked Rifa while catching her breath from exerting herself during battles.
"I'm good," answered Fenris confidently despite feeling nervous about facing even stronger enemies ahead.
"What kind of monsters did you say lived here again? I feel like we've been fighting so many different ones," said Fenris sounding lost on how far along their journey through the forest they were currently at since sunlight barely penetrated through leaves anymore.
Rifa gave a small smile before replying calmly, "We should have reached around mid-point by now."
Fenris looked around them taking note of just how thickly packed everything was making it difficult for visibility over time- adding up even more anxiety within him because he feared sudden attacks could come at any moment without warning...
"So this is what you meant by 'jungle-like.' I see now that you weren't kidding. It's hard to tell if it's really getting dark or if the forest is just too thick," muttered Fenris to himself, trying to shake off his worries as he cast a protective spell around them both.
With each step they took, their surroundings became increasingly more dangerous and unknown- making their journey even more challenging than either of them could have imagined...
Fenris' fears became reality as his gut twisted in warning. Just as he anticipated, a group of Orcs were headed towards him and Rifa.
"Rifa..." Fenris said urgently, taking hold of her arm to bring her closer.
Rifa looked at him confusedly before following Fenris' gaze toward the approaching Orcs. She understood what was happening and immediately prepared herself for battle.
But before they could even react, the Orcs leapt into the air with their axes raised high. Fenris acted fast, using his magic to jump away from immediate danger while carrying Rifa on his back.
As they landed safely some distance away from the attackers, a loud thud echoed through the forest - indicating that these were much stronger enemies than what they had faced previously.
Fenris quickly got up to his feet and propped Rifa up beside him while keeping an eye on their foes. "Oh god...Orcs? This is just my luck," he muttered under his breath before turning to Rifa as if pleading for help.
Rifa felt surprise wash over her at this unexpected development but kept calm nonetheless. "Welcome to your first real challenge in these woods," she said with a nervous chuckle that sounded out of place given their current predicament. "We can do this."
"Couldn't you have said something sooner? Ugh, never mind that now! Let's defeat them before they kill us!" exclaimed Fenris determinedly clenching his fist readying himself for battle.
There were at least six Orcs closing in on them so without hesitation; Fenris dashed forward concentrating mana into his feet allowing him to move faster than usual. As he closed in on one of them, he unleashed several wind blades that sliced through the flesh like butter. They pierced it like it was made out of paper mâché.
In response to this sudden attack upon their comrades, the Orcs roared in anger and charged towards Fenris and Rifa with even greater ferocity. The sound of their grunts filled the air, along with the smell of sweat mixed with blood.
Rifa was surprised by how fast these creatures moved but quickly regained her composure. She focused on her surroundings, looking for any weaknesses she could exploit to defeat them.
"Stay alert, Fenris!" she shouted over the din of battle as one Orc lunged at him from behind. With lightning reflexes, Fenris dodged just in time before unleashing another wind blade that sent the creature flying backwards.
He then turned his attention back to Rifa's warning - realizing that he couldn't afford to let his guard down even for a second if they wanted to survive this fight. Each blow he landed made him realize how much stronger these foes were compared to previous ones - making it clear that this journey would be more difficult than either of them had anticipated.
Rifa focused her attention on one of the Orcs, snapping her fingers to ignite it with a burst of red-hot flame. The spell required precise control over magic; otherwise, the consequences could be disastrous- burning yourself or an ally instead.
The Orc screamed in agony as flames ate away at its flesh, writhing on the ground before finally succumbing to its fiery fate. Meanwhile, the remaining three Orcs charged toward Fenris and Rifa with their battle axes raised high above their heads.
Fenris and Rifa leaped out of harm's way just in time whilst still managing to land gracefully beside each other on solid ground. As they did so- Fenris unleashed another wind blade directly towards one of the attacking Orcs' head slicing clean through it like butter leaving no chance for recovery.
"Typical for Orcs," Rifa commented briefly between attacks "They are incredibly strong brutes but not very smart."
"Yeah...I think I've got a pretty clear idea about their strength now," replied Fenris glancing over towards where he had originally stood before this brutal encounter began.
With his Light magic ready to use; once again when the Orcs closed in proximity allowing them enough range for swinging weapons; he executed his plan flawlessly: producing bright light from his hand that temporarily blinded all three opponents causing them momentarily incapacitated which led them dropping their weapons allowing him ample opportunity to attack without any hindrance whatsoever.
Using magical abilities yet again, Fenris jumped into the air soaring up roughly 3 meters high until he was level with an orc's head and then delivered a devastating spin-kick straight into its face sending it flying back several feet while dealing significant damage. Quickly following up on this attack; He launched a powerful punch directly into another orc's abdomen – causing it to crash down onto its knees screaming in pain.
The other two Orcs continued to attack despite being brought down by Fenris' and Rifa's combined assault. But soon enough, the duo finished them off together- each one panting heavily from exertion as they stood victorious amidst their fallen foes.
"Wow...I'm exhausted from that," Fenris said between deep breaths before adding hopefully "Care to call it a day? I think we've done enough fighting for now."
"Yeah, we can call it a day," agreed Rifa looking around at all the Orcs they had just defeated with determination and pride etched on her face.
Fenris was glad to finally rest after hours of battling monsters which left him physically exhausted without any respite. The two headed back home; flying safely through magical means conjured up by Rifa allowing them safe passage out of Jura Forest.
By the time they arrived back, nightfall had already set in - much later than Marcos would have liked. He scolded both Rifa and Fenris for coming back so late since he'd been worried sick about their safety throughout this entire ordeal!
Despite his warnings though- these two warriors remained unyielding and continued venturing out into Jura Forest every chance they got always prepared for whatever challenges awaited them there...
◇ ◇ ◇
After several days of intense battles against various monsters in Jura Forest, Fenris and Rifa decided that they needed a break. They had been pushing themselves hard ever since they started exploring the forest and were feeling exhausted.
So, instead of heading straight into battle once again, the two adventurers took some much-needed time off to relax and recuperate.
They found a quiet spot by a small stream where they could rest without being disturbed. The sound of water flowing gently over rocks provided soothing background music as they basked under the warmth of the sun's rays.
Fenris leaned back against a tree trunk while Rifa laid her head on his lap - both enjoying this momentary respite from their usual routine. As minutes passed; they silently took in the beauty around them: gazing at vibrant flowers blooming nearby or watching birds fluttering overhead before eventually dozing off for some well-deserved rest.
However, it wasn't long before something caught Fenris' attention- A strange creature darting towards them at lightning speed! It was unlike anything he had seen before - with razor-sharp claws protruding from its limbs and eyes glowing an eerie shade of green...
Instantly alert, he nudged Rifa awake, gesturing for her to get ready for whatever was coming next. In no time at all, 3 more creatures appeared out of nowhere surrounding them completely.
Fenris was quick to react using his magic instantly creating a shield around him and Rifa providing ample protection whilst simultaneously launching wind blades directed towards each one causing significant damage. However, these creatures were not going down easily, retaliating with brutal force that would have overwhelmed any other duo but not Fenris and Rifa.
With every passing second, adrenaline surged through their veins as they fought tooth and nail against these ferocious foes, determined to emerge victorious despite overwhelming odds stacked against them.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the creatures lay defeated at their feet. Fenris and Rifa sat down exhausted but triumphant, still amazed by the ferocity of these monsters that they had just fought against.
As they gathered their wits about them, something caught Rifa's attention - a glint in the distance that looked like it could be some kind of treasure! Without hesitation, she rushed towards it dragging Fenris with her eager to see what was waiting for them.
The two spent hours exploring every nook and cranny of this mysterious place until exhaustion once again overtook them leaving little choice but to head back home - happy yet drained from another successful adventure through Jura Forest.
Fenris and Rifa had been through a lot during their journey through Jura Forest. From battling Orcs to facing off against strange creatures with razor-sharp claws, they had proven time and again that they were a formidable team.
Despite the dangers that lurked in every corner of the forest, Fenris and Rifa remained undeterred. They were determined to explore every inch of this magical place, discovering secrets hidden within its depths waiting to be uncovered.
With each challenge they overcame together, their bond grew stronger, cementing a friendship built on trust and shared experiences. Even though exhaustion often set in after long battles or treks through unfamiliar terrain; both knew that there was always more adventure waiting just around the corner...
As they made their way back home from yet another successful expedition into Jura Forest; Fenris and Rifa could not help but feel excited about what lay ahead, eager to face whatever new challenges awaited them as long as they faced them together.
