Chapter 87
(The Slaves, Pt 10 of 11)
Jake Pov:
Wolves are ok, but are not normally eaten though. Their meat is tough but delicious at the same time. I will just grab them later, they are not something slaves should eaten when just freed. I will start with the Deer and Antelope, along with the two rabbit in a stew of sorts.
The animals were on a Raft of sorts that I had made to haul it. I only had one Deer and Antelop along with the Rabbits. But it would be to much to haul all of them at the same time though. Looking around I go to the forest and grab a Dead tree.
Heading back I go to the Raft and look for a spot made of Stone. But looking around, there isn't one sadly, so I just have to make one. "Earth Magic, Stone Fireplace," I say, making the Earth rise up. It forms into a neatly made Giant Fireplace for me to cook.
I take the tree and Realize I have nothing to cut it with, other than my sword. But, it isn't made for cutting logs into pieces, it would just damage it. This tree is around three feet thick so that won't work even if it didn't damage the product. Wait, I can just use Earth or Combination magic to make an axe.
Should I do Stone, or Metal Axe? A Stone axe would be one piece, it would be sharp, but if the wood is to hard it can break. A Metal axe would be made of Metal and Heavy, it won't break Easily, and be sharp, but if handled poorly. Fine then, that's my choice, I already have enough experience.
"Metal Axe," I chant and it forms from the ground. It is covered n dirt and rock, so it seems like that is all it is. But, if you give it a good hit on a tree, that shatters and reveals the Item. I grab it and pick it up, it is around about ten pounds in weight though. But there is a reason to the Quadruple weight though.
If I had left the Handle empty then it would bend and not Cut. Plus, the metal is decided by the minerals in the ground, but I don't know what they are. For all I care, this could be Tungsten, a Very dense and heavy metal.
I put the tree down and Start by chopping off its limbs, for its entire length of Forty feet. The tree was Forty eight feet long and four feet wide at the base. The branches started around eight feet up from the base. Once that was done I set them to the side, oblivious to everyone watching.
I go back to the Log, and start chopping it up into eight four foot sections, the rest one foot. There was a reason to this as well, the four foot sections would be the base. Inside would be the Sticks and Firewood I will be making. I can't just use fire Magic to cook everything, that wouldn't look natural.
Once that is done, I build a Log cabin out of the eight pieces. Using a Stump I found nearby, I start chopping the large logs into eight pieces, and small into four. Those should be a good enough size for everything. I go over to the sticks and start breaking them up into kindling.
These would be what the fire would start from in the long run. Once that is done I put them inside the base of the pyramid. Using the Firewood I made I cover up gaps and fill it in on the inside. Once that is done I cast a spell. "Burn," I chant and the kindling catches on fire.
It will take a while to build up so I go over to the meat. I start with the deer and start chopping it up with my knife. Other than my sword I always have three knives on me, the first is my pocket knife, the second is for hunting, my skinning knife, and the third is also for hunting, my Butcher knife. It was made to cut up meat with ease of mind.
After I finish with that, I start cutting it up more. I plan on making either Jerky/Bacon or Steak, though I will probably do both. I grab what is used for making steak and cut it up into even parts around one
inch thick. Once that is done, I get something from Halfdan who came over. It was something akin to a Metal grate or grill.
I lay it over the top of the fire, at a respectable height so it won't melt, the food won't burn, and the food will cook. I do so using some Stone platforms that had been formed when it was made. I take my 300 Steaks, with the help of the knights, and lay them on. "In around fifty Kana, I want you to take them off and start serving the people!," I tell the knights and they all yell.
Kana meant minutes, but was used whenever food was being cooked. It was a way to determine it from other things, like delivery and other stuff. I go back and use the stuff that couldn't be used, or around 100 steaks. I chop it all up into thin strips, or around a quarter inch thick. From there, using the knife, I start thinning it out into eighth inch strips. This will be the Jerky/Bacon.
Once that is done I lay it on the outside of the fire so it dries. If it dries to fast, it will burn, but if not enough it won't cook. This will be for the soldiers who need it soon, it will also be done in when the steaks are.
Going to Halfdan, I start taking out wooded plates from a while back. In the glacier we didn't have a lot to do, so for some of it, I ended up making dishes. But I did so much, I was no longer able to count them anymore. Man, I really don't know when to hold back, do I.
