Chapter 103 - Goals!

{Tower of Pain, Amegakure}

{4:34 PM, 21st July 13 Yrs ANB}

{3rd Person POV}

Konan walked through the tower heading to her room in her butterfly form, before she could move into the room a voice reverberated throughout the room, "You are injured."

"I know," she replied as she reformed and walked into her room. With a quick application of chakra, her cloak disintegrated as she looked at the patch of paper that was covering her injury. Ren's sword had cut almost an inch through her arm, thankfully he hadn't broken any major chakra pathways otherwise she would have to return to him to get this injury healed.

Her eyes narrowed as she opened a drawer in her room and pulled out a bandage from inside it.

'What technique was that, he suddenly moved faster and his attackers were sharper for that one moment. But after that, his movements were slightly sluggish as he struggled to dodge my attack.' Konan thought.

Ren was an enigma to her, from all the information sources that she had access to, he was abandoned by Konoha. Rumors have spread that he had stolen the Kubikiribōchō from his sensei, Konoha had issued a death warrant, and he was actively fighting against Suna in the opening war.

The thought of another war raging across the Land of Rain was infuriating but Madara and Zetsu had taken it upon themselves to try and cause as much chaos as possible. She was sure the only reason they had even informed her and Nagato of their plans was because they needed Ren to remain alive in case Zetsu needed to copy his chakra signature once again.

She winched slightly as she slowly bandaged her shoulders, even though she had learned the Mystical Palm Jutsu from Ren, she wasn't confident in using it and not messing something up right now.

~Knock~ ~Knock~

There were a couple of knocks on the door which caught her attention, she sighed as she stood up and opened the door. For someone who proclaimed himself to be a 'God' Nagato was overly worried about her sometimes.

"You left Amegakure with your new project and then you came back with an injury?" Pain spoke. Yahiko's face haunted her but seeing him moving and talking added a new layer of pain.

"Yes, I was testing his combat standards." Konan nodded. Pain's eyebrow rose just a touch as he asked, "He was able to hurt you?"

"Yes, I was careless." Konan nodded, she was feeling a little embarrassed but her face remained cold and distant.

"We should eliminate him before he becomes a problem, his history is questionable and there is no point in letting someone like him escape." Pain spoke, he thought for a second, and then continued, "Learn all the medical ninjutsu you can from him and then eliminate him if you think he's a threat, Madara and Zetsu could find a different plan to cause chaos. You can't be busy learning medical ninjutsu when you may need to make an appearance as Hanzo on the battlefield when necessary."

Pain turned around and left after giving his instructions. Konan watched him leave and then she sighed as she shook her head, her heart throbbed as she looked at the two closest people in the world to her. One is dead trying to make their naive dream become a reality, and the other chasing the same dream having abandoned his sense of self and humanity.

Konan had taken the place of 'Hanzo', whenever some foreign dignity came to visit Ame, it was her job to impersonate the man she hated the most. Nagato had been particularly ruthless to Hanzo's allies, his supporters and families were killed so that there was no chance of a rebellion.

Even his summons, the salamanders were injected by Nagato with the power of his eyes. Their souls tortured in the belly of the King of hell as with the powers of Animal-path he made them into his summons with his Rinnegan. The salamander allowed her to easily play her part as 'Hanzo' as the poison and feeling of the salamander summons couldn't be faked.

With war on the horizon, she would have to fight on the front lines as Pain, she didn't agree with Nagato's assessment of Ren, so she was caught up in a dilemma now. The good thing was that she had time to debate over this issue, as both Suna and Konoha had started their battle across the Land of River.

Even though the terrain there was unfavorable for both Suna and Konoha, they likely decided that contending against Hanzo who was another S-Rank shinobi wasn't a good idea. With his reputation still working she had some time to decide what to do with Ren.

After bandaging her shoulder, the cloak appeared over her frame as she dispersed into tiny little butterflies once again, her destination?

A certain apartment building in Amegakure.

The first thing that Konan noticed upon entering his room was that he was meditating while healing himself, both his hands glided across his naked torso as he was using the Mystical Palm Jutsu on himself. The green glow hid his broad shoulders and muscle tone as Konan stared at his calm face.

Konan stared at him for a few minutes but upon seeing that he was about to open his eyes she slowly started converging once again.

...

'Dammit, how long has she been here,' Ren thought as he stared at the 100 or so butterflies merge into the figure of Konan, the papers settled across her form as she solidified. It was hauntingly beautiful as her stoic face and cold eyes stared at him.

He wasn't sure why she was there as he slowly stood up and picked up his T-shirt from the side. Expressing her displeasure won't actually matter so he simply wore his T-shirt and waited for her to speak.

"What are your goals, Ren?"

AN- What are Ren's goals, actually?
