{3rd Person POV}
...
'Oto again, I have been seeing quite a lot of Oto spies slipping the net in the last year...' Ren thought as Hayate sensei stepped forward to greet the two 'genins'.
"Ah, you arrived here earlier than I expected Kabuto-kun," Hayate spoke, and Kabuto leaned back with an embarrassed expression on his face.
"Ah no no Hayate-sensei, we were just eager to see if we are compatible with participating in the chunin exams, we aren't getting any younger now right..." Kabuto spoke sheepishly.
Ren marveled at the ease at which Kabuto was able to act like a weak genin, even his chakra looked like it was a normal genin.
'Mid-genin level chakra reserves and the guy in the back has high-genin level chakra reserves... how is he able to manipulate his chakra so well...' Ren thought. Still, he needed to figure out the current problem that he was facing.
How would he reject being on a team filled with spies, the chunin exams were dangerous enough as it is and he didn't want to go to the exams handicapped to watch his back from his comrades.
'I need a legitimate excuse to avoid teaming up with them in the upcoming exam.' Ren thought.
"Hello, I'm Ren," Ren greeted simply, he made sure not to act abnormally, since Kabuto was a Jonin-level spy he had to act carefully from now on not to let him get suspicious.
'If he even suspects that I know his secret it would get dangerous in the exams...' Ren thought and he nodded to the two of them.
"Soo..." Kabuto laughed and looked back at his teammate, he looked back and spoke, "we never had to team up with anyone outside our team since our team was formed so I don't know how this works?"
Hayate coughed a couple of times and Kabuto walked towards us as he went through a couple of hand seals, green chakra flared to life in his hands but Hayate waved him back.
"It's alright Kabuto-kun, this is a chronic injury..." Hayate spoke casually and then he stared at the green chakra in Kabuto's hands.
"So you have learned the mystical palm jutsu, that should mean that many genins should have applied to join your team..." Hayate pondered.
"Ah yes, but we weren't compatible, you see both Yoroi and I are support types and we need immediate combat power to complete the team, most of the applications we got were from different support types," Kabuto explained with an embarrassed smile on his face.
"So you are a non-combat healer I assume," Ren finally spoke, his eyes focused on catching any tics but Kabuto continued his act easily and he nodded to Ren's pointed questioning.
"And you?" Ren asked, he turned to question the genin spy, "I'm taijutsu focused..." Yoroi replied.
"Alright, this might work..." Ren muttered but then he suddenly asked, "Can we have a light spar?"
'Naive...' Kabuto thought as he stared at Ren, he was expecting a few more obstacles and now he had a dilemma. He wasn't planning on teaming up with Ren because that would simply constrain him from moving freely in the forest of death.
'Now how do I get out of it, let's have Yoroi spar with him...' Kabuto thought and then he motioned for Yoroi to accept. The two of them stood some distance away and Hayate seeming slipped into his role as the referee.
'This is good at least I can access his combat pow-' Kabuto paused in his thoughts as Ren rushed at Yoroi with mid-chunin level speeds, his teammate didn't even have a chance to respond as he was knocked out from a quick blow to the temple.
'Fast and concise, that was Strong Fist,' Kabuto thought and then he quickly put on a shocked expression on his face. While the situation was unexpected at least from the frown on Ren's face Kabuto wouldn't have to work hard on sabotaging this team linkup.
"Uhh..." Ren paused as if he was thinking and then he turned back to Kabuto with an apologetic look on his face, "Sorry about that."
"Ren you didn't have to rush at him at your max speed," Hayate complained and Ren cringed slightly.
'Good sensei caught on,' Ren thought and then he watched as Kabuto healed his fallen teammate. After a couple of minutes, Yoroi woke up and looked around in confusion.
"I guess the difference between our strengths is too strong right, Ren-san" Kabuto spoke he ha a resigned expression on his face as he shrugged in the end seemingly accepting his fate in mediocrity.
"Well, I wouldn't mind that but most of my attack patterns focus on speed and if you can't keep up with it then you can't actually support me right?" Ren asked and Kabuto nodded unconsciously, as he helped support Yoroi stand up.
"I understand, thank you for your care, Hayate-san, Ren-san... Let's team up if we meet in the exams!" Kabuto replied with a cheerful expression before he waved and the two of them walked away.
Ren saw them leave the training ground and too a small sigh of relief, Kabuto walked out of the training ground before dumping Yoroi on the ground. He pulled out a seal from his weapons pouch and quickly poured chakra into it. Familiar voices started coming from the seal as Kabuto listened for any clues that his identity had been seen through.
"You didn't have to bully them, they could have been useful teammates, you know when you get promoted you will have to lead teams. That's what it means to be a chunin, a chunin is supposed to lead genins or other chunins on lower-level missions. So you need to get used to teaming up with shinobi who are weaker th-" Kabuto heard Hayate babble on about what it means to be a chunin so he was pretty sure that there were no suspicions thrown his way.
"I know Hayate sensei, I just didn't want to baby two support class through the exams..." Ren spoke softly and Kabuto nodded, the insult simply breezing off his face as he stood up and cut off the connection.
"That brat is fast, I barely saw him move before blacking out," Yoroi spoke, Kabuto could detect a hind of anger and fear in his voice and he realized what he was hinting at.
"Relax he isn't our target, to begin with so you don't have to worry about your ass," Kabuto taunted, "I just wanted to check up on everyone's stats from this year's graduating class," Kabuto spoke.
'Though his speed was faster than the rumors, it didn't look like he overexerted his body to reach mid-chunin level speeds so his max speed should be high-chunin...' Kabuto thought as he opened a data card from his weapons pouch, he adjusted Ren's values and then put it back into his pocket.
'Another speed devil, I wonder who is faster, him or the weird eyebrow brat...'
