Noah stood dumbfounded. He wanted to explain to her that he was only talking to his wolves and that he left her like that but Becky was already staggering down the hill, her eyes burning with anger and embarrassment.
"Be—Becky, hold on,"
She continued dragging her feet down the hill.
No matter how much she tried to hide her feelings, he knew that her heart was already torn in pieces. But there was no way he could answer her question even though Lux was against it. He was not ready to marry her now that things were not okay.
First of all, he still had to make sure that his father would survive the surgery. He still had to make sure that everything runs smoothly in the pack. His life was still disoriented to think about marriage for now.
But will Becky understand? She had been with him for so long to accept such excuses. She had always waited to see him become the Alpha. She wanted to build the pack with him and revive the respect of the pack.
"Becky, hold on, we have to talk about this."
Becky still ignored him, going down the hill as her eyes began forming the tears she fought to put back. She just felt like a child.
"Becky, you are not feeling well. You have to let me support you. Your sickness might get worse."
Noah tried to touch her, but Becky slowly pushed her hands away and continued walking.
"Becky, I didn't mean to leave you. I was..."
Noah was interrupted as Becky suddenly halted, turned and faced him. Her face was getting paler. Her mouth was slightly quivering and pale skin indicated that she had provoked the poison by running some minutes ago. She fought hard to control the burning in her chest and stomach.
"Please listen to what I have to say," He approached her gradually again. As much as Becky felt to move away from him, her feet were too weak to move an inch. No matter what Noah did, she couldn't get herself to ignore him.
"You know this is not the right time for it. I know we've been together for a long time but...we can't get married now that things are not okay. Look, at my father, he is still suffering and I'm not sure if he would survive the surgery.
Since the Alpha took to bed, my pack members have no one to take care of their needs. All of these are in my head. I need to think carefully and gradually settle everything. I promise when the right time comes, you will surely be the woman I would choose."
For a moment they stood, it seemed his words sank into her head and she suddenly realized it herself. She too was chastising herself internally knowing the state he was in now.
She nodded gently and allowed a smile to form on her face. "Promise me I would be the one you would marry."
"I promise you that. You are the only one I will choose." He drew her closer into a hug.
Noah received a mind link from Doctor Leo.
'Noah, you have to come back to the pack house. The surgical equipment has arrived. Doctor Peters is here to accompany me with the surgery. Also, you have to take Becky back, too much cold will cause her danger.'
'Alright, I'm on my way now.' Noah responded.
"We have to go back to the pack house now. It's about my father. Doctor Leo said the surgical equipment is here." Noah said to Becky as they drew out of their hug.
"Alright," Becky responded. Noah lifted her into her arms again, heading back to the tunnel as their whispering conversation thrilled off with the sound of the gentle breeze.
But Noah's mind was still on Lux. What really is his wolf talking about? What if all that Lux was saying was right? His mind went blank as this thought ran through his head. Minutes later, Noah stepped into the tunnel, heading towards the underground pack house.

At 6:00 in the morning, the door to Joseline's room opened.
A woman in her 80s walked quietly into the room with a tray in her hands. She placed it gently on the small table beside the cupboard and rolled it quietly towards Joseline's bedside.
For a moment, her lips parted in a smile as she stared at the beautiful lady curled up under the thick yet comforting bed sheets, heaving a gentle breath like a baby. She sat on the bed beside Joseline and gently shook her hands "My baby girl, wake up." She whispered almost as if she was waking up a kid.
Joseline heaved in her sleep and didn't look like she would wake up anytime soon.
"Has this young lady forgotten that she is getting married today?" Only then did she put more pressure that still looked like she was coaxing her.
Joseline still lying peacefully enjoying her sleep, felt a tingle on her skin. Her head was loaded with sleep and she suddenly felt the need to spank whoever it was disturbing her peaceful ride.
Putting one hand above the bedsheets, she turned over to the other side, but the hands persisted and this time she couldn't take it anymore; her eyes flew open.
A slight frown graced her face only to see a woman staring down at her; her lips curved into a peaceful heart-melting smile that replaced Joseline's frown with a wide grin.
"Grandma!" Joseline exclaimed almost juggling off the bed. She enveloped the woman in a tight hug and realized she was almost choking her as she tapped her hand rapidly on her back.
"Oh, I'm sorry Grandma. I didn't mean to choke you. It's been over three years since I last saw you. That's why I got so excited, hahaha."
"Oh, Josie. You are already 22 and you still act like a child." The old woman giggled, stalking the strands of Joseline's hair over her ear.
"And what about you? You don't seem to be ageing with the passage of time" The room resonated in another round of laughter.
"You surprised me. I didn't know you were coming."
"Why won't I come to my granddaughter's wedding, hmm?"
"Did Dad know you would come?"
"I didn't want to tell him since he is busy chasing werewolves in the city. Besides he won't allow it if he had known about it. You know how he is. I can't take his regular complaints about; werewolf this…werewolf that. Old people should not live in the city... because it's dangerous... One complaint or the other. Gush, I'm too old to hear that already." Grandma drew out each word.
Joseline watched her grandma release her frustration which only made her chuckle.
"Dad is caring grandma, that's why his doing all that. He doesn't want any of us to get hurt that's the reason he sent you overseas where the security is better over there."
"Hush grandchild, I'm 81 already. I don't need that kind of protection as if I'm a child. I should be the one protecting him instead." Her brows knotted in a frown which made Joseline laugh more than she intended wondering how the old would protect the youth.
"Oh, grandchild. I'm happy I made you laugh so hard. The last time I saw you, you were crying on your sick bed. You look healthier now than in those years. I'm surprised to see you looking so healthy right now and it makes me so happy. Tell me, what's the secret? Is he so handsome that he healed you?"
"Gush. I haven't known him quite well."
"But he is handsome right?"
"I must admit, yes."
"Sexy?"
"I don't really know what makes a man look sexy. Women always have this curve but men...I don't know how to describe them."
"Oh, I see, Joseline. You want to get it from my mouth huh?"
"It depends on the direction you want to go."
"What direction do you think I'm talking about?"
"…" Joseline remained.
"Okay, since you want me to say it. I mean; sexy. As in...sex. Have you made love with him?" Grandma inquisitively between chuckles and turned her grinning gaze at Joseline.
Joseline suddenly found something interesting in picking at her fingernails. She swallowed the sudden nervousness in her throat.
"Won't you answer me?"
