Chapter 12 - This Demon's Got Some Housekeeping To Do

In the beginning, Alexander's arrow-like tail felt like more of a liability than an asset. It left him with a sense of vulnerability, and its lack of reflexive self-defense often led to unfortunate tail-related mishaps.

But oh, how the tables had turned! Now, an electrifying sensation surged from his tail, like a surge of power coursing through his very being. It was as if his tail had taken on a life of its own, exuding a newfound strength that seemed to originate from its very core.

As the transformation concluded, Alexander felt a subtle click within his heart, followed by the distinct sound of his tail vertebrae locking into place. Slowly, deliberately, his once seemingly delicate tail arched upwards with a newfound sense of dominance.

His heart danced with a newfound sense of liberation. The tail responded with the fluidity of a well-trained limb, no hesitations or hitches, just pure seamless coordination. It was truly a part of him now, an extension of his will.

Alexander gazed upon his handiwork with a satisfied grin. The tail had undergone some alterations, its girth reduced but its proportions more aesthetically pleasing and complementary to his physique.

Its hue now matched his skin tone – a deep, captivating shade of crimson that seemed to emit an inner glow, a radiant gem nestled within the flesh. And oh, the texture! The tail felt solid and robust, exceeding his initial expectations. Each flick sent ripples of dark red light rippling along its length, reminiscent of a fiery dance.

What caught his attention, though, were the three blades at its tip. They danced open and shut at his command, their movements a captivating display of precision. What truly amazed him was the exhilarating roar that accompanied a swift tail flick – the sound of air being sliced with alarming speed.

Unable to contain his excitement, Alexander looked around, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He unleashed his tail, propelling it like a spring-loaded arrow into a nearby tree hole. The result was nothing short of astonishing – the tree hole, half a meter thick, was met with a resounding impact, leaving even Alexander a bit taken aback.

Amazement filled him as he realized that his tail's reach extended beyond its physical length. The gaps between its joints allowed it to stretch like a coiled spring, a fact that would surely catch any opponent off guard. Alexander couldn't help but grin at the tactical advantage this provided in combat – his enemies would undoubtedly rue the day they underestimated his tail's striking range.

With a contented sigh, Alexander opened his system interface, only to discover that his attributes had undergone an unexpected upgrade. Not just a minor bump, but a considerable boost of 5 points in both strength and speed!

His strength now stood at an impressive 21 points, while his speed reached an admirable 18 points. Puzzled yet intrigued, Alexander pondered the peculiar connection between modifying his tail and the surge in his attributes.

Alexander couldn't help but chuckle as he flexed his newly enhanced muscles near his waist and thighs. It was like his body had received a secret upgrade – the "Tail Mastery Edition." He grinned to himself, realizing that even his tail seemed to have joined the party, swishing more gracefully than ever before.

"I guess this system isn't as dumb as I thought," he mused aloud, a playful smirk on his face. "Adaptive evolution, huh? Not bad."

Curious, he stretched his arm and gingerly felt his back, his fingers tracing the sharp ridges that now adorned his spine. Blade-like bone fins? He laughed at the thought. "Well, I suppose being a little terrifying has its perks too."

His mind drifted to sleeping, and suddenly he felt an unexpected wave of sleepiness wash over him. He found himself reflecting on the past week – the days he had spent with barely any rest due to his persistent sense of unease.

The unfamiliar surroundings had kept him on edge, making falling asleep a distant dream. But now, with his newfound strength and a growing sense of security, his eyelids seemed to weigh more than ever.

Yawning, he decided it was time to settle in for some well-deserved rest. Before giving in to sleep's embrace, Alexander meticulously cleaned up the remnants of the monster he had just devoured from his cave.

The aroma of the meal had been intense, and he didn't want any unwanted visitors dropping by for a midnight snack. With the cave cleared, he cleverly covered the entrance with stones and leaves, leaving it looking as untouched as possible.

He eyed a peculiar-looking fruit he had collected earlier, its vibrant colors catching his attention. "You might make a good neighbor," he quipped, placing the fruit carefully within the cave, as if introducing it to his makeshift den.

Feeling satisfied with his preparations, Alexander sprawled out comfortably on the ground. He knew that this sleep might stretch longer than usual – his body craved it. And so, with a contented sigh, he closed his eyes, his body sinking into the earthy floor beneath him.

In the tranquility of the moment, a stray thought danced through his mind, accompanied by a small grin.

"Who would've thought? Tail upgrades and bone fins. If only the folks back home could see me now..." With a soft chuckle, he surrendered to the embrace of slumber, his imagination blending with his dreams as the world around him faded away.

——

In the subterranean world, where time was as elusive as a ghost and day and night were but distant memories, Alexander stirred from a deep slumber.

As he stretched his sinewy form, the satisfying symphony of crackling bones played in harmony, leaving him feeling rejuvenated and utterly comfortable.

Alexander's bleary eyes widened with surprise as he took stock of himself. It was as though he had grown during his extended rest, his once-humble palm now more substantial, hinting at a newfound stature.

But time remained a mystery; no clocks or sunbeams to guide him. Alexander's sense of time was as distorted as a funhouse mirror. His world thrived in perpetual obscurity, indifferent to the passage of seconds, minutes, or days.

His gaze shifted to a peculiar fruit he had placed nearby, its once-vibrant exterior now a canvas of decay and mold. A wry smile tugged at Alexander's lips. "Well, at least a couple of months have played their part," he mused aloud, using the rotting fruit as his unconventional timekeeper.

The concept of time was a whimsical abstraction for Alexander, now that he embraced his identity as a demon. No more grueling commutes or stifling schedules. His concerns weren't tethered to deadlines, for time had surrendered its shackles over him.

"Two months isn't too shabby," Alexander pondered, his thoughts drifting to the slumbering dragons of myth who spun the fabric of time with their prolonged dreams.

"Imagine slumbering for decades, waking up to find empires risen and fallen," he chuckled, dismissing the notion as he shook his head.

Restlessness tickled at his senses, a typical trait of his Gemini nature. Alexander was a spark of curiosity, eager to combust into exploration once more. Surviving was no longer his sole focus; understanding this mystifying demon realm danced before him like a beguiling riddle.

Restless, he sprang into action, throwing off the languor of extended rest. A mental measurement revealed a heightened stature, and he grinned, a pang of excitement tugging at his chest. The rumbling chorus in his belly, however, played a more immediate tune – a serenade of hunger.

Approaching the tree-cave's entrance, Alexander paused, one ear perked for unusual sounds. Satisfied that the world beyond was oblivious to his awakening, he deftly removed the stone blockade and ventured into the tunnel's embrace once more.

To his astonishment, the outside world had undergone its own metamorphosis. White threads glistened in intricate patterns, an ethereal tapestry draped around his sanctuary. The once-hidden den was now swathed in the work of eight-legged artisans.

With a mix of bewilderment and indignation, Alexander nearly stumbled into a dew-laden web. He shook his head in mock disbelief.

"Really? I've been away a couple of months, and you've redecorated already?" he quipped, eyes narrowing at the audacity of the spiders.

His irksome visitors, only a stone's throw away, had multiplied their hunting grounds to include his very abode. His temper, which had been as placid as a pond, rumbled to life like a volcanic eruption.

"Alright, that's it!" Alexander exclaimed with theatrical flair, his declaration echoing through the hollow cavern. His gaze gleamed with determination. "This demon's got some housekeeping to do."
