Chapter 8 - Unlimited cold medicine

"Open the door quickly, it's fine!"

Alanna gritted her teeth but still hesitated.

"I... I'm scared! I can't do it!"

"Damn it!"

Waldo was getting angry.

"If you don't open the door now, I don't want you anymore!"

Alanna's face turned pale upon hearing that. She clenched her teeth, closed her eyes, and rushed forward, pushing the door open.

Waldo was taken aback.

Is this foolish woman out of her mind?

Is she trying to rush in and feed the zombies?

Waldo quickly pulled Alanna, the foolish woman, back and then stepped out, pointing his gun at the inside of the house and pulling the trigger.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Waldo fired a burst of bullets, turning the two zombies inside the house into sieves.

Fortunately, at least he managed to kill the two zombies inside the house.

Waldo grabbed Alanna and quickly entered the house, immediately closing the door.

He then removed the magazine, took out the 9mm bullets from his backpack, and loaded them one by one.

This was the worst part—after emptying the magazine, he had to load each bullet individually.

Waldo sternly said to Alanna, "Alanna, let me make one thing clear. Firstly, we are teammates, not me babysitting you! And I am the team leader. When I tell you to do something, you do it! Don't say things like 'I'm scared' or 'Let's go' anymore!"

"This is not the peaceful world we used to know. Your high educational background as a doctor means nothing here! If it were not for clearing out zombies this time and instead we were being chased by zombies, your indecisiveness would only get both of us killed."

Alanna's face looked unpleasant, but she knew that what Waldo said was true.

"I'm sorry, I understand. I will listen to you from now on."

Waldo nodded in satisfaction and said, "Don't worry, as I said, I will protect your safety and won't break my word! When I told you to open the door, I was confident that no zombie would bite you."

Alanna nodded with some embarrassment.

Waldo was pleased with her obedient attitude and took out a can of luncheon meat, two self-heating rice packs, and two pieces of fruit.

In the current post-apocalyptic world, such food could be considered a luxury.

Alanna couldn't help but salivate at the sight of today's meal.

"Let's eat something. We'll stay here for the night and see if we can leave this neighborhood tomorrow."

Waldo had no intention of leaving.

During the night, the zombies would become extremely active, and their perception would be more acute compared to the daytime.

Being within their sight at this time, even if they didn't detect you, even a small scratch would attract swarms of sharks like cutting your finger in deep sea water!

Waldo opened the rice packs and let them heat up on their own.

"Waldo, where are we going exactly? We've been traveling anxiously all the way, and I'm scared to death. In my opinion, we'd be better off staying at the previous convenience store."

Waldo's lips curled into a smile.

"What do you understand?"

"I don't understand. Can't you just tell me?"

Alanna pouted and murmured.

That small supermarket doesn't have much to offer, and it's crowded with people. Plus, it's located in the city, where the population density is particularly high in the old town area! Staying there for a day or two is fine.

Waldo shook his head and said with a wry smile, "But think about the future, though. If we stay in that place, what if one day there's a massive zombie outbreak? We, as two living people, might not even have a trace left."

After hearing these words, Alanna immediately pictured in her mind the image of an endless horde of zombies. Her delicate face turned pale in an instant. Even though it was just an imagined scene, it still made her shudder.

She couldn't help but think that Waldo had great foresight. She wasn't a foolish woman. Although she was a bit more timid compared to Waldo, she was very practical.

With these thoughts, Alanna felt that following Waldo was a very wise decision.

After enjoying a hearty meal, Waldo took the opportunity to rest. In this post-apocalyptic world, especially while on the move, he couldn't afford to waste even a minute of rest. Physical stamina was essential for survival.

Seeing this, Alanna also lay down next to Waldo and closed her eyes to rest. However, she couldn't fall asleep with such a masculine man lying next to her. She even wondered if her charm was insufficient.

Alanna felt frustrated. Before the apocalypse, she was the renowned campus belle at the top medical school in her country.

Even when she started working at the hospital, she was a highly esteemed chief physician. How could she now be in a situation where she couldn't even attract Waldo's attention?

Alanna was distressed, but Waldo didn't think about such things. He clearly distinguished between his rationality and instincts. Thinking about such matters at a time like this would be suicidal.

Waldo quickly adapted to the post-apocalyptic world and maintained a regular sleep schedule. He had developed a healthy habit of light sleep. It ensured sufficient alertness, allowing him to wake up quickly in dangerous situations, while also providing enough rest and energy replenishment for his body.

The next morning, Waldo was awakened by the vibration of his phone. He sat up and first checked his surroundings to ensure there was no danger.

Then he opened his email and received the notification of unlimited supplies for the day: cold medicine.

This was a practical medical supply since many people in such harsh environments often had to endure exposure and catching a cold or fever was common. If not treated promptly, it could be quite dangerous.

Waldo nudged Alanna and walked to the balcony, pulling out a telescope to observe the situation on the street. The street seemed calm, and there were hardly any visible zombies.

However, Waldo was no ordinary person and couldn't be deceived by the apparent calmness. Although there were few zombies in sight now, he had learned a painful lesson in this regard.

Initially, Waldo and Alanna were walking on the main street, but those cunning zombies didn't necessarily fear the sunlight, they would still rush towards any living target they spotted. In the end, Waldo had to take Alanna and hide in a nearby residential building to escape.

Rubbing her sleepy eyes, Alanna looked at Waldo's back with a pitiful expression and muttered, "What a blockhead!" Waldo heard Alanna's muttering and chuckled.

Well, when we reach our destination, I'll let you sleep to your heart's content!

Alanna's face blushed.

"Let me sleep to my heart's content?"
