The leader of the Wolf Pack, Wild Wolf, was shot dead by Waldo in the bedroom, and no one knew about it.
It was not until the fire spread rapidly and became uncontrollable that the strategist of the Wolf Pack hurriedly tried to get the leader to escape, only to discover that their leader had been shot in the head at some point.
This news surprised him to some extent. However, he was more concerned about his own safety and decided to distance himself from the situation.
After all, even his own life was at risk now. If it weren't for the fear of being held accountable in the future, he would have left like the other members, taking what he could carry.
How could he risk danger to find the leader?
The strategist didn't hesitate and walked up to the Wolf, squatting down to search for supplies. Unfortunately, Waldo had already gotten there first. Immediately after shooting the Wolf, he took the supplies and went to the warehouse to rescue Helen.
The strategist searched high and low but couldn't find anything valuable. He felt annoyed. He looked at the Wolf lying on the ground and kicked him a few times.
"Damn you! You useless piece of crap! You always acted tough and mighty in the Wolf Pack, but in the end, someone shot you in the head, and you couldn't even protect the supplies! I spit on you! You're not even worth a stray dog! How unlucky!"
After cursing, the strategist spat on his hands and wiped them clean, as if trying to get rid of the bad luck that came with searching the dead man's belongings. Then, without further delay, he left the scene and fled.
After the Wolf's death, similar situations unfolded in various locations of the Wolf Pack. When faced with danger, everyone scattered in different directions. Who would care about the survival of the Wolf Pack? After all, they were just trying to make a living.
The most interesting part was that after the strategist left the Wolf's room, someone sneaked in quietly, hoping to seize an opportunity. However, each person's search was in vain. And in frustration, they kicked the Wolf's lifeless body a few times.
Poor Wolf, once glorious in life, now miserably beaten to the point of swollen face.
However, this situation didn't last long. Before long, the fire spread to the two-story house where the Wolf Pack leader resided. Soon, the flames engulfed the Wolf.
At that moment, Waldo and Helen stood on a vantage point nearby, watching as the Wolf Pack stronghold was consumed by the fire. Helen had already taken off her combat uniform, which served as Waldo's reward for risking his life to save her, and the deal had been completed.
As they watched the fire burn, Helen suddenly remembered the story of the burning of Lianying Camp. The situation at the Wolf Pack stronghold now seemed quite similar.
Just then, Helen had a sudden realization. She gasped and turned to look at Waldo.
"Waldo, the Wolf Pack's supplies have been burned by the fire, isn't it a waste?"
Waldo, who had been watching the fire at the Wolf Pack's location, heard Helen's question, withdrew his gaze, and chuckled.
"It's not a waste. The people under the Wolf Pack are dirt poor. The real wealth was all monopolized by the Wolf himself. I killed him and now I have his supplies in my hands. You can say that killing him is almost the same as looting the entire Wolf Pack."
After hearing this, Helen's expression became somewhat playful.
"Well, I thought you came here directly to save me, but it turns out you killed the Wolf and looted his supplies first. Hey, I'm disappointed."
Waldo knew that Helen was joking, but he couldn't help but feel helpless, making a face that showed his grievances.
"I had to find your location first, right? I had to find the Wolf before I could find you."
Helen hummed a few times. "I didn't know you could act like a little puppy."
"Alright, alright, I admit defeat. It gave me goosebumps," Helen said, conceding with a shiver.
Waldo burst into laughter and patted Helen's shoulder. "Who asked you to tease me earlier? This is called winning without fighting. Now you know how powerful I am, right?"
The sudden movement caught Helen off guard, and she instinctively shrugged her shoulders, feeling a bit nervous.
Waldo immediately felt embarrassed, realizing that Helen was a girl. He hadn't considered his actions properly.
"Oh, sorry about that. I forgot you're a girl," Waldo said, sheepishly.
"Oh, by the way, you mentioned that you obtained supplies from the Wolf. Are there any rare items? As the leader of a significant faction, there should be some valuable things, right?" Helen asked.
Waldo shook his head with a hint of helplessness. "The Wolf Pack is a classic case of all show and no substance. Despite being the leader, the Wolf had no heavy weapons. His backpack was filled with mostly daily necessities, and there were only a few items worth taking."
Helen felt speechless upon hearing this. She didn't know how to respond to Waldo's unintentional sarcasm.
In the current post-apocalyptic world, many people struggled to find enough food to eat. Someone who had a considerable amount of daily supplies like water, bread, and milk was considered a powerful figure. But in Waldo's words, such a person became nothing more than a basket of grass.
Helen pursed her lips and could only ask, "You mentioned that there were only a few items worth taking. Does that mean there are some valuable items?"
Waldo nodded and took out two things from his backpack: an astronomical telescope and a blueprint for a basic underground bunker.
Waldo didn't think these were particularly useful items. An astronomical telescope? Who had the luxury to stargaze in the current environment? At least Waldo didn't. Besides, he couldn't understand it.
As for the blueprint for a basic underground bunker, Waldo found it quite underwhelming. After all, he already had fortifications and a villa. Who would willingly hide in an underground bunker with no daylight?
But these two items could still be considered rare items. An astronomical telescope was something he had never seen before, and the blueprint for the underground bunker could be upgraded.
With reference to his automated defense system, the underground bunker had great potential. However, he didn't know how much help they would provide him now. They seemed more like decorations, kept for future use if needed.
"Huh? An astronomical telescope?!" Helen's interest was immediately piqued when she saw the telescope.
Waldo suddenly remembered that Helen had been the president of an astronomy club back in university and had even invited him to join.
But being a child from a poor family, what did he know about astronomy? In his mind, it was a hobby reserved for wealthy people.
Seeing Helen's delighted expression, Waldo smiled and said, "I almost forgot. You were the president of the astronomy club. If you like this astronomical telescope, I'll give it to you."
