Alex stared at the screen in front of him, desperately trying to make it work. But no matter what he did, nothing seemed to respond. Frustration crept in as he realized that this must be one of those systems often mentioned in novels. He couldn't understand why he couldn't access his own system.
"Ugh, I just got this system, but it seems useless," he muttered, shaking his head. Just as he was about to give up, the notification bar in front of him suddenly disappeared. Feeling a pang of disappointment, he decided to go to school that day.
[Ding! Congratulations on embarking on the first stage of your life's journey. You have chosen the student profession. Student profession is activating.]
Alex heard the voice of the system again and his confusion grew. "What? Profession? Student? Is the system there? Can you help me? What is this?"
But to his dismay, he received no response. He concluded that this must be a silent system without any artificial intelligence.
"Well, whatever. Let's go to school," he sighed, shaking his head. He headed to his school, and his first class of the day was chemistry, a subject he struggled with. As he took his seat, he noticed that Athena, his classmate and friend, was absent. He felt a twinge of guilt but brushed it off as Miss Rebecca, the chemistry teacher, entered the class and began her lecture.
Amidst the class, Alex found himself lost in thoughts about the mysterious system. Suddenly, a piece of chalk flew through the air and struck him on the head, drawing everyone's attention.
"Alex, you scored 28 marks in Chemistry last time, and yet you have the audacity to be distracted!" Rebecca's voice echoed sternly across the classroom. She had expected better from him.
Laughter erupted from the students, filling the air with amusement.
"Pay attention, Alex. If I catch you being distracted again, you'll face the consequences!" Rebecca warned, her tone softening as she saw Alex's helplessness. "Sit down and believe in yourself. You still have about 100 days until the final exam. Don't give up."
"Teacher, I won't give up. I'll study hard and improve my grades," Alex responded with determination, finally snapping out of his daze.
He wanted to make up for his past shortcomings and live a better life. The final exam was only the first step towards his goal.
Rebecca looked at Alex in surprise, but a sigh escaped her. "If only Alex had shown this determination when he was in his first year of high school, he might have excelled. It's too late now for him to realize it."
"It's good that you're finally determined. Even if you don't improve this year, there's always next year," Rebecca said, her gaze fixed on him.
"Pfft!" Arnold, a troublemaker from the class, couldn't help but sneer.
Everyone's attention shifted to Arnold, waiting for him to explain his laughter.
"Arnold, what's so amusing? Show some respect!" Rebecca scolded, her expression stern.
Arnold came from a wealthy family, and his troublesome behavior was well-known. He was known for his bullying and causing trouble, making him a real nuisance.
Rebecca understood the mockery behind Arnold's laughter. It was evident that Arnold found it ridiculous for Alex to claim he could improve his grades despite his abysmal performance.
Though Arnold lowered his head, a smirk played on his lips.
Improve his grades? What a joke! Alex had scored only 280 marks out of 600 in the last exam. It was as if he thought he could become the country's leader overnight.
Ignoring Arnold's laughter, Alex paid no heed to the mockery. With his current grades and his past lack of dedication, he knew it was only natural for others to doubt him.
"No matter what anyone says, words alone won't convince them. The only thing that will silence them is my own success," Alex thought to himself, determined to prove his worth.
He understood that if he wanted to change the way others perceived him, he had to start with his results. He needed to excel academically to rewrite his own fate.
As Rebecca resumed the class, Alex made a conscious effort to focus on her lecture. However, as she delved deeper into the subject of Chemistry, he found himself struggling to comprehend. The words she spoke were like an incomprehensible foreign language to him.
"I've been out of practice for too long. I've practically forgotten everything about Chemistry," Alex admitted, his frustration growing. His previous lack of interest and aptitude for the subject had led to his poor performance. After graduating from middle school, he had no reason to use Chemistry, causing him to forget almost everything he had learned.
Realizing that he needed to start from the basics, Alex reached for his Chemistry textbook and turned to the study guide. He was determined to rebuild his foundation and grasp the concepts he had long forgotten.
But as he opened the textbook, something caught his eye—a line of text flashing before him.
