Chapter 21 - Brave City bunker

"Drop your weapons, men." The emperor dropped his saber on the ground.

His company reluctantly did so. All of them had swords.

One of the accompanying soldiers said to the opposing soldiers,

"Don't you recognize who this is?"

"I am Emperor Gerald. Your emperor," Emperor Gerald said with calm.

He wasn't angry that the soldiers couldn't recognize him at glance. He wasn't oblivious to the fact that many people wouldn't recognize without previously seeing him in person.

These opposing Camelot soldiers were called the scout soldiers. They were still more scout soldiers in hiding under the grasses. The scout soldiers' job was to identify and stop any threat from reaching the bunker. In the case where they couldn't stop the threat, they would warn the soldiers in the bunker who would decide on the next line of action that would positively benefit the refugees in the bunker.

The scout soldiers considered the emperor's outfit; the golden armor. They saw Camelot's coat of arms engraved on the two sides of his chest.

One of the scout soldiers walked closer to the emperor. The soldier gazed down at the emperor's right hand.

Emperor Gerald rolled his right hand to a fist and presented it to the scout soldier by extending forward his right arm. There was a unique ring on his ring finger. The face of the ring had the badge of Camelot's royal family inscribed on it.

The scout soldier scrutinized the ring. Suddenly, this soldier knelt on both knees and apologized to the emperor, saying,

"Forgive us, my emperor for wronging you."

The other scout soldiers did likewise.

Emperor Gerald's heart was glad to see this display. He liked to have committed men on side.

He said to the scout soldiers, "I didn't take offence. You all were simply doing your duties.

"Brave men, I was on my way to the bunker. I am going there to see my people to talk to them and give them hope about their future… your future."

Emperor Gerald placed his hand on the scout soldier's left soldier as he said the last two words.

The scout soldier turned to his brothers in arms and said to them,

"Three of you should accompany our lord to the bunker."

The scout soldier gazed back at the emperor. Emperor Gerald nodded at him. Satisfied, the scout soldier stood up and step aside for the emperor to continue advancing.

Thirty minutes later, Emperor Gerald and his entourage arrive before a big rock. The rock was 23 metres high and about 100 metres wide.

A soldier walked out from the rock as if it was air. This shocked the soldiers that came from Brave city. The three scout soldiers that joined the emperor's entourage, took amusement in the other soldiers' shocked faces. It was clear that this wasn't the scout soldiers' first visit to this rock.

The soldier that just appeared from the rock was a female elf. She was as tall as the men on the scene. She knelled on one knee and bowed. She said to the emperor,

"Greetings, my lord. I am one of the bunker guards. I will guide you and your comrades into the bunker."

Emperor Gerald said to the elf, "Make haste, I can't wait to speak to my people."

There was a gleaming green crystal hanging in a hip holster on the bunker guard's waist. She took out the rock with her left hand and used it to draw on the rock. The crystal left a warm green line in its wake. The bunker guard drew a sizeable door for the visitors and herself.

The elf touched the door knobbed and the rock within the drawn lines crumbled to oblivion, leaving a dark void within the door frame.

Again, the soldiers from Brave city were awed by the sight. They were regular people who almost had zero interaction with magic in their daily life. They were bound to be awed by little shows of magic.

The bunker guard walked into the dark void, escaping the eyes when swallowed by the darkness.

Emperor Gerald said to the soldiers from Brave city, "There is an eight seconds countdown before the door is gone. Let's move."

In this order, the emperor, the scout soldiers and the soldiers from Brave city walked into the void. The soldiers from Brave city were last because they were a bit scared about the void. And that was part of the reason Emperor Gerald told them about the door's timeframe.

Location: Brave city bunker B1

The interior of the bunker was a very spacious underground cabin. The ceiling had monotone grey color studded with crystals that illuminated the room with white light. The walls of the room were painted in an artistic combination of warm brown and white colours.

The atmosphere in the cabin was not grievous. Rather it was filled with positivity and slight anxiety.

There were seats and tables around the cabin like a cafeteria. Some families sat alone at a table, conversing within themselves. While others sat alone at a table and conversed with other families or had another family sharing the table with them as they conversed.

There were also people who came here alone.

Cheerful laughter would be occasionally. Everyone was just chilling out. There was food supply that would sustain the bunker for five months within the bunker. Some families and individuals were eating. Some chose not too because of anxiety. The rest weren't hungry.
