Chapter 22 - The arrogant half breed

Emperor Gerald and his escorts entered the scene.

The people didn't notice the visitors; they were engrossed in their businesses.

Emperor Gerald looked around, examining the people. Most of the people weren't looking dirty. Just a few were dirty. They were obviously the people who were close to the wall when the Peacock-Flamebird attacked.

Almost every man, woman, and child in the cabin were dressed in tunics. The few there weren't were dressed in either expensive two-piece suits or three-piece suits for the men and the women; they wore a beautifully designed and expensive-looking bodice, a skirt, and on their heads, they either wore a hat or a scarf.

The emperor correctly deduced that the population in this cabin was mostly commoners. Brave City was known to have lots of rich merchants. The proportion of the rich to commoners in Brave City was 2:18. That was a lot compared to other business-based cities in Mainland Camelot.

The Emperor said in a loud voice, "Good tidings to you, citizens of Brave City!

"I'm your Emperor, and I bring good news to you.

"The, Beast, is, dead!"

The people jubilated in relief.

"Unfortunately,

The commotion died down. An anxious silence entered.

"Unfortunately, ending the beast cost us a number of good, loyal people. We will remember them for their noble and brave service. Heaven bless them."

The people responded, "And may their souls rest in peace."

Emperor Gerald led a round of applause for the departed souls, and the people followed suit.

Emperor Gerald said, "I came here to promise you that your future is in good hands. I plead that everyone should exercise patience as the city planning unit and I plot the best way to reintegrate you back into the city.

"I cannot say how long it is going to take to do this, but it is going to take a while. Does anyone have anything to say?"

A commoner spoke up, saying, "I have a business meeting tomorrow. I'm supposed to welcome my visitors at my home."

Another said, "I have goods to supply in Radiant City, and I have received payment for them upfront."

More people joined to complain, and soon it was indiscernible babbling.

Emperor Gerald roared, "It's okay."

The noise died down.

"Those of you that can afford accommodations in nearby cities can leave the shelter. I assure you that there would be a subsidy on the rent fee.

"For those of you who can't afford accommodation and also have visitors that they are supposed to welcome at their homes, your meeting will have to be abandoned."

A noisy protest was sparked. Almost all the commoners were complaining. The rich guys weren't bothered; they observed in silence.

"The alternative would be that you all would welcome your visitors at the city hall. I imagine it to be inconvenient."

A female commoner yelled to everyone's hearing, "Despite inconvenience, we will gladly accept that."

The others agreed with the young lady.

Emperor Gerald said, "This matter is settled. I will arrange efficient soldiers who will make sure everything is under control at the hall when the meetings commence."

The commoners gave the emperor a round of applause. The applause got to Emperor Gerald's head, and he smiled happily at everyone and waved to kids who were waving at him to get his attention.

An irritating ringing noise ceased the frenzy, and everyone turned their attention to a man in a yellow three-piece suit. This man stood on a table and rang on a plate sitting in his left hand with a spoon.

The man in the yellow three-piece suit was in his late fifties. He was 5 feet tall, plump, bald, and sported a green-colored handlebar moustache. His irises were shaped like those of a feline. The man was half human, half goblin.

Razor was the half-breed's name. He hopped down from the table and made his way to the emperor.

"Don't you dare get any closer," one of the Brave City soldiers said to Razor as he was about to get too close.

Emperor Gerald said to the soldier, "Let's not be too harsh to our fellow citizens."

The soldier nodded.

Razor began his speech, saying, "Gerald, how do we go about-

In the blink of an eye, the soldiers that were with the emperor, including the elf, swarmed down on Razor.

"You fool, how dare you address the emperor without respect."

"An imbecile like you shouldn't be alive."

"Your petty pennies have surely gotten to your head, imbecile."

The soldiers cursed Razor as they mildly manhandled him. The crowd also disagreed with Razor's arrogance and cheered on the soldiers.

Emperor Gerald ordered, "Forgive him. I want to hear what he has to say."

Razor was left alone. He staggered to his feet. Unfortunately, he got a swollen lower lip from the beating. Feeling the pain on his lip, he touched it and he grimaced in pain. He raised his head to look at the emperor. When his eyes met those of the emperor, he grinned.

"You, you are the red dragon," Razor said, "the protector, lawmaker, and ruler of Camelot."

One of the commoners cried, "The red dragon is a myth!"

Razor turned back to look at the crowd. He could perceive the ignorance on their faces. He shook his head as he scanned through the faces. He yelled with exasperation,

"The emperor is the heaven-forsaken Red dragon. How in the world do you think that the dragon that attacked our city was vanquished so quickly?"

Some people accepted the truth that the emperor was the Red dragon, but most of them still doubted it.
