Glossary

This is just a glossary for all the terms that may confuse people who have not watched the show Grimm (btw, it's a good show and I heavily recommend it). I will update this page as I mention it in the story, just to give a more detailed explanation. Just a disclosure, all the information is directly copy and pasted from the wiki, so check it out if you need more information.

General Races:

Grimm: Grimms are specially gifted humans who possess incredible powers, such as being able to see the true form of Wesen even when the Wesen don't want them to. For centuries, Grimms have taken it upon themselves to police and hunt the Wesen population and to protect normal humans from the unknown threat around them. As supernaturally-empowered hunters, warriors and arbiters of justice, Grimms are commonly feared among the Wesen world.

Wesen: Wesen is a collective term used to describe the creatures visible to the Grimms. They are the basis not only of the fairy tales that the Brothers Grimm have compiled, but also of the many legends and folklore from many cultures (i.e. Anubis, Aswang, Chupacabra, and Wendigo). When Wesen change, they are able to recognize a Grimm by looking into their eyes. They can see an "infinite darkness" in a Grimm's eyes that allows a Wesen to see their reflection, where they can see their true Wesen nature.

Kehrseite (Human): Humans consist of the "normal" people who are not Grimms, Wesen, or Non-Wesen beings. Kehrseite is the Wesen word for a "normal" human (KERR-zy-tuh; Ger. "reverse side"). A Kehrseite who knows the truth about Wesen is known as a Kehrseite-Schlich-Kennen (SHLISH-kih-nihn; Ger. schlich "sneaked" + kennen "to know, be aware of").

Wesen Races:

Blutbad: A Blutbad (BLOOT-baad; pl. Blutbaden) is a wolf-like Wesen. They are the basis for the werewolf myth as they look mostly human with exaggerated wolf like features.

Non-Wesen Races:

Wolfblood (OC): A person who has the ability to transform into a gigantic wolf. They are descended from a Native American Spirit Walker who possessed the body of a wolf and transformed back into a human, protecting their tribes from anything that would harm them, namely Wesen. When a child carrying the Wolfblood gene encounters the blood of a Wesen, their instincts take over and the Phasing process begins. Because of their similarity to the Wesen creatures, the Grimms saw fit to kill and eradicate them, leaving only people who did not carry the gene, which is one of the main reasons why a Wolfblood is rarely seen in the current era.

Zane is a Wolfblood who inherited his gene from his great grandmother on his father's side and was activated when he made contact with Wesen blood that was on his mother's clothes.

Organizations:

Seven Royal Families: The Royal Families are a major antagonistic faction in the Grimm series that have reputedly been around for centuries, potentially even before the Crusades. They are ruthless, devious, extremely wealthy and very powerful; so much so that they pose a large and ever-present threat to both the Wesen community at large and the rest of humanity, as their actions often result in numerous innocent people being hurt or killed. Nearly the entirety of their lineages are composed of Kehrseite-Schlich-Kennen, as they deal both directly and indirectly in Wesen affairs. They do not however have any sway over the Wesen Council and their influence over Wesen is limited primarily to those in their employ

Verrat: The Verrat is a powerful Wesen organization established in 1945 that serves the seven royal houses (the Seven Houses) whose goal is to maintain stability within the Wesen world.

Hadrian's Wall: Hadrian's Wall, or HW, is a secret government organization that is a branch of the Federal Government opposing Black Claw. It is so secretive that most of the government doesn't know about it, as the organization doesn't trust a lot of people in the government. They have an interest in recruiting Grimms in order to help support their cause, and they are extremely diligent in their efforts to cover up their actions or the actions of Black Claw. Their members are usually disguised as Interpol agents so that their work does not get interrupted due to suspicion.

Black Claw: Black Claw, also known as Schwarzkralle (SCHVAHRTZ-krah-luh; Ger. "black claw"), was a group of Wesen intent on living in a world where Wesen do not have to hide their true selves from society, and they were not hesitant to kill anyone who stood in their way, including any Wesen who refused to join them or weren't a part of their cause.
