Chapter 136 - True Mages

"Do you guys see anything?" Smith asked.

"Nothing yet." Kevin replied.

They had been keeping an eye out for a high class wert. Maybe one with five tails, but they had not seen any wert beyond four tails.

"I see her. There's Anna." Nikki said.

"I'm gonna go talk to her and tell her what we figured out." Kevin said. "Hopefully the penitentiary will be okay till then."

Just as he said that, a four-tailed wert flew headfirst into the warps in the air and sent a ripple through it.

"You just had to jinx it, didn't you?" Max said.

"Relax. It's gonna be alright." Kevin said and left to talk to Anna.

But now, all the werts began focusing their attention on the warps in the air and began hitting it all at once.

Jake had stopped trying to use his energy since it clearly wasn't working. He had accepted the fact that he needed help if he was ever going to leave or escape from the penitentiary and just as he was thinking if there was any other thing he could try to do, he heard a loud bang resonate through the building.

'Are we under attack?' Jake thought. 'That would explain the alarm and red light. But if we're under attack why would they leave me in here? I can help!'

Soon after the first bang, Jake began to hear bang after bang and slowly, he was starting to see very tiny cracks in the wall.

Lots of guards began patrolling the penitentiary, checking to ensure that no prisoner had managed to escape or was trying to escape. They had been asked to carefully inspect Jake's cell and make sure everything was right.

In the room where the cause of the magic failing was trying to be found, the soldier had only found a strange and unusual anomaly in the cell Jake was in but it had gone before he could analyze it. That was when soldiers had been sent out to patrol the penitentiary.

Then the bangs started and the man could see that werts had started hitting the penitentiary from the outside.

"Commander, the magic isn't going to last much longer." he said. "We've only got about four minutes until the penitentiary is completely exposed."

"Alright everybody listen up." Commander Lucy said. "No prisoner in this building must escape. No matter what happens and by any means necessary, every prisoner in this penitentiary must be in here by the time those werts out there are killed."

Commander Lucy addressed her team with a stern tone, demanding their full attention. She set forth an urgent mission: to prevent any prisoner from escaping the building under any circumstances.

The stakes were high, and she emphasized that they must use every available means to ensure that each inmate was accounted for and secured within the penitentiary before the approaching threat outside could reach them. Her message was clear: failure was not an option, and the safety of all involved depended on their successful execution of this critical task.

After a resounding and reverberating bang, the world penitentiary was completely visible to everyone, including the werts.

Outside the penitentiary, a five-tailed wert had so suddenly arrived and immediately hit the same spot all the other werts had been hitting.

Due to it being a five-tailed wert, no one was fast enough to intercept it before it could hit the penitentiary.

Now, they could see the penitentiary and the werts began shouting and making noises of victory.

"You think that's the leader of this attack?" Kyle asked, a bit nervous. "A five-tailed wert?"

"It could be." Smith answered. Every single person present could feel the intense power emanating from the five-tailed wert which was flying steadily in the air and it sent shivers down the spines of most of them.

The five-tailed wert looked down at them and was about to swoop down to deal some critical damage but Commander Chase had jumped up and hit the five-tailed wert away before it could attack.

He was clad in his black and blue armor and he had not arrived alone. Soldiers from other districts had also arrived at Thradon to fight off the werts and now the tide of the battle was about to change in favour of the humans.

Another commander, Commander Blake, was among the soldiers that had arrived, making it two commanders that were present. Three if Commander Lucy was included.

Commander Lucy was in the penitentiary and had a good reason for remaining there—she had to ensure the safety of the penitentiary and prevent any prisoner from escaping.

Slowly, the numbers of the werts began to reduce as the soldiers killed them one after the other in groups.

By now, there were no civilians in the area. Those who had not been killed by the werts had long been evacuated and were now safe at the other end of the district.

Plans had already been made for a total evacuation of the district if the situation escalated more than it already has.

Commanders Chase and Blake were in a heated fight against the five-tailed wert though they clearly had the upper hand.

Commander Blake had just picked up two swords from the ground and threw it at the five-tailed wert.

The swords began to grow bigger and they were as big as two fully grown men joined together.

The wert had evaded both of the swords and was about to fly towards Commander Blake when the swords came hurtling back towards the five-tailed wert and hit it directly on the head.

Commander Chase had used his magic to control the swords to move towards his direction at the right time and they had hit the five-tailed wert which had been knocked out of the sky and onto the ground.

While everyone was so engrossed in their fights, no one noticed when something with immense speed flew past all of them straight from the sky and collided with the top part of the world penitentiary.

Whatever had hit the world penitentiary had not stopped there. It had passed straight through the top part and now a huge hole was in the walls of the penitentiary.

"What just happened?" Commander Lucy asked, a little unbalanced. She had personally been moving round the penitentiary to ensure that no one got out but suddenly the whole building shook and she could tell that part of it had already fallen.

In Jake's cell, or what used to be his cell, a large portion of the cell to his right had just crumbled and the pod he was in had a very little crack by the right.

Smiling to himself, Jake thought he had seen an opportunity to finally leave the penitentiary.

Something strange began to occur and all over the remaining parts of his cell, markings were appearing and were becoming slightly bigger in size.

The next thing Jake saw was something he himself couldn't quite describe. People in hooded clothing started coming out from the markings which looked like what he would say were from Aztec.

They all held a staff in their hand except from one which was at the back of the others and their faces were very well hidden.

'Who the hell are you guys?' Jake thought to himself. 'They clearly aren't werts.'

"Who are we?" one of them spoke. "We are the True Mages."
