Chereads / The Path Of A Mage / Chapter 89 - Later Than Usual

Chapter 89 - Later Than Usual

Walking back home after completing the first part of his punishment and after his extreme training session with Anna, Jake stopped at a stall to get something to eat before continuing on his way home. He decided to check his system to see how much his stats improved. 'If they improved. But I'm sure they improved.'

'At least now the level of my speed is closer to the level of my strength. I need to increase my speed and strength to the level of my endurance.' Jake thought. 'So this night was beneficial to me. Cat would definitely be sleeping by now. I would have liked to see her before going home. I'll wake her up.'

Now heading to Cat's house, Jake took off his shirt and kept it on his shoulder. 'I should have taken a quick shower and changed my clothes before leaving school. But I didn't plan to go to Cat's house so it's not my fault.'

Remembering what happened the last time he went to Cat's house late in the night, Jake stopped in his tracks. 'She might get into trouble with her aunt if I visit her at this time. I'll just head home, I don't want her to be in trouble.' Jake thought and went to his house.

Getting to his house, Jake opened the door and went in. 'I don't think anyone would be awake at this time of the night, I came back later than usual. Let me get something to eat, those snacks I ate didn't do anything to satiate my hunger.'

Going to the refrigerator, Jake brought out some food then heated it before sitting at the dining table to eat. 'Shouldn't I take a bath first?' Jake thought before he started eating. 'Oh forget it, I'll head to the bathroom when I'm done eating.'

While eating, a lot of thoughts were going through Jake's mind. Now that he sat down and wasn't doing anything apart from eating, he began to do some thinking. 'I still haven't asked Miss Anna to teach me how to control my magic. I really need to learn how to control my magic fast. The magic duel against Duke is coming up and I need to become as strong as I can, I don't know how strong Duke is so I won't underestimate him.'

'And Miss Anna still hasn't taught me how to fight someone who is invisible, maybe I'll remind her tomorrow. Learning whatever she might teach me will help me greatly in the duel against Duke.'

Looking at the time on the wrist watch he had bought when he had visited Violet, Jake could see it was almost midnight. 27:55–there are twenty eight hours in a whole day and seventy minutes in an hour. 'Just remaining fifteen minutes before midnight. I need to go to bed. First let me see if there are any quests I can complete now.'

Bringing up his system screen for quests after he was done with his food, Jake looked at the quests he still had to complete.

[Quests]

[Practice using magic for 2 hours= Magic +4, +30exp]

[Deplete mana completely and keep using magic for 7 minutes= Mana +6, +90exp]

[Run around a house 10 times in 15 mins= Speed +4, +25exp]

Looking at the quests, Jake was deciding on which one to complete tonight. 'I don't want to stay awake for two more hours so the first quest is out of the options. I don't want to go through that kind of pain tonight so the second quest is also out of the options. That leaves the third quest, run around a house ten times in fifteen minutes. I think I can complete this one tonight.'

'I can't run around my house because it will make some noise and could wake up Dad and Sky. But I can find another empty house or run around a random house and leave before the residents of the house come out and see me. With my increased speed I should be able to do that.'

Getting up from the dining table, Jake took his dishes to the kitchen sink and washed them before he went to his room to grab a sweater which had a hood that could cover his face. Now standing in front of his house, Jake looked around at the houses nearby. Seeing a house with no lights on, Jake walked over to it and put the hood of the sweater on his head.

Scaling the fence of the house which was down the street from his house, Jake landed on the other side of the fence and waited for a minute to see if an alarm would go off.

Most houses had an inbuilt alarm system which could be turned on and off. When turned on and triggered by the DNA of a person that hadn't been enrolled into it's system, the alarm would reverberate and immediately contact the clinsers. Due to people receiving guests mostly during the day, the alarm system of most houses was turned off during the day and turned on at night.

Looking at what could be called sensors placed in strategic places around the house, Jake was thankful that the alarm hadn't been triggered, how would he explain jumping the fence of a house at this time of the night. 'They probably forgot to turn it back on. Dad never forgets to turn on the alarm system in our house.'

Hurriedly walking to the small gate of the house, Jake set a timer on his watch and began running around the house. 'This quest is way too easy.' Jake thought as he ran. 'Did the system make it like that on purpose?'

Noticing a light come on in a room, Jake didn't stop running and tried to run faster. Hearing footsteps in the house, Jake quickly ran the tenth time around the house and jumped the fence without stopping. He kept running till he reached his house and stopped before going in.
