Chapter 48 - Getting New Quests

Reaching his house, Jake got inside but didn't see anybody. 'They're probably already asleep. How late is it? For Sky to be sleeping already, it must be very late. Since I'm still awake, why don't I complete that last quest.'

Bringing up the system screen, Jake looked at his remaining quest.

[Quests]

[Run to and from the Superstar mall in 20 minutes=Speed +4, Endurance +3, +20exp]

'With my speed stat at 16, this shouldn't be difficult. I'll do this quickly then come back.' Going back outside, Jake did the same thing he did last time, set a timer on his watch for 19 minutes and began running to the Superstar mall.

Immediately after reaching the mall, Jake turned and ran back home. Getting home again, Jake ran inside quietly and sat down in the living room. Checking the time on his watch, Jake saw it was remaining a few seconds for the 20 minutes to be up but luckily he had completed the quest before the time ran out.

Bringing up his system screen again, Jake saw his rewards and a quest update.

[Quest Completed: Run to and from the Superstar mall in 20 minutes]

[Speed +4, Endurance +3, +20exp received]

[Speed: 20]

[Endurance: 26]

[Exp: 225/800]

[Quest Update]

[Practice using magic for 1 hour= Magic +2]

[Get beaten up by three or more people= Endurance +3]

[Deplete mana completely and keep using magic for 3 minutes= Mana +3]

Seeing the new quests the system had given him, Jake was shocked. 'Is the system trying to get me killed? Why do I have to get beaten up just to gain more Endurance stats? And how can it tell me to use magic for three minutes after depleting my mana? Does it want me to die?

The one rule of using magic is stop using it after your mana is depleted and here the system is, telling me to do just that. This is crazy.'

Leaving the living room, Jake went up to his room to try to get some sleep before the sun comes up in the next few hours. "I still have Miss Anna's shapeshifting magic. I think I'll try using it for a while before I go to bed."

Looking at himself in the mirror, Jake triggered his magic with the happy memory he had found out triggers his magic fastest. Thinking of himself with silver hair, he tried to make his black hair change to silver in colour.

Seeing a few strands of his hair change colour to silver, Jake thought harder about the happy memory while trying to create the feeling he gets when he channels his magic.

Now trying harder, Jake was able to change half of his hair colour to silver but the other half wasn't changing. 'Let me see how strong Miss Anna's magic is.' Checking his system screen, Jake saw the level of strength Anna had gotten her magic to.

[Stat points: 2]

[Mimicked magic: Shapeshifting magic]

[Strength of Mimicked magic: 200]

"Whoa! This is sick, is this how powerful Miss Anna is? Wait, if this is how powerful her magic is, and I mimicked her magic, that means I can do everything she can do if I learn it. Wow, magic mimicry is pretty amazing, maybe I can convince Miss Anna to teach me how to use her magic."

Getting in bed, Jake shut his eyes and went to sleep.

Hearing someone knocking on his door the next morning, Jake lazily told the person to come in.

"Jake what's wrong with you? Get up." Sky said as he entered the room and saw Jake still on the bed. "If you don't get up now I'm gonna go to school without you."

"Okay I'm up." Getting out of bed after Sky had left his room, Jake went to the wardrobe to get what he was going to wear to school. "I'll just put this down here and close my eyes for a bit." Yawning, Jake put the clothes down on the bed, sat down and shut his eyes. Falling on the bed after some minutes of sitting with his eyes closed, Jake stood up quickly and rushed to the bathroom.

"I guess this what happens when you get only three hours of sleep." Dressing up and going downstairs, Jake met the living room empty. "Dad?" he called as he went to Andrea's room. "He must have rushed to work again. And Sky definitely went to school without me."

When he was done having breakfast, Jake left for school. Arriving at school, Jake went to the training room where Anna trains the groups she selected and saw everybody present with Miss Anna already training them.

"Look who finally decided to grace us with his presence." Anna said as Jake came in.

"Good morning Miss Anna." Walking into the training room, Jake went to take a seat among the chairs that were arranged in a circle with Miss Anna in the middle.

"What happened to you? You look like a truck drove over you." Kevin said when Jake sat down.

"I feel like a truck drove over me. I didn't get enough sleep."

"Less talking, more listening." Anna said. "As I was saying, if you practiced your magic like I told you to, I'm sure you felt like something was being drained from you. It's normal to feel like that, that feeling is your mana depleting as you use your magic. The stronger your magic becomes, the more mana you will have at your disposal. I want to see you all try to use your magic. Keep the chairs by the walls and give yourselves some space."

Anna got up from the chair and began to walk around checking what the students were doing.

"Miss Anna?" Kevin called out. "How do I use my magic?"

"Remind me, what magic do you have?"

"Possession magic." Kevin answered.

"There are different ways to use possession magic. Sometimes when a person uses possession magic, the eyes become cyan in colour. It releases a type of spell which makes whoever you are trying to possess stay still, though depending on how strong your magic is, there are some people you won't be able to possess."

"So all I have to do is be near the person I want to possess." Kevin said to be sure he understood what Anna just told him. "And let me guess, the distance between me and the person depends on the strength of my magic."

"Yes." Anna said to him.

"Why does everything about magic depend on how you make it to be? Jake is extremely lucky, he doesn't need to make his magic strong. All he needs to do is mimic the magic of someone with powerful magic."

As the class looked in Jake's direction, they could see him lying on a training mat a few feet away from them sleeping.

"Looks like he wasn't kidding, he truly didn't get enough sleep." Kevin said.

Walking to the spot Jake was sleeping, Anna bent down and spoke into his ear. "Want me to join you?"

Opening his eyes, the first thing Jake saw where the eyes of Miss Anna. "Do you mind moving back a bit?"

"I think she's perfect where she is." Kevin said gazing persistently at Miss Anna's butt as she was bending over.

"Enjoying the view?" Anna asked as she wiggled her butt a bit.

"I am."

"Keep doing that and someone might try to manhandle you in here." Jake said sitting up and rubbing his face.

"I'm not worried, I have my knight in shining armour right here." Holding Jake's arm and raising him up, Anna walked him back to where the students were.

"Why'd you stop?" Kevin complained.

"If you can at least make your eyes change colour, you might get to see some more." Anna told him.

"What about me Miss Anna?"

"And me?"

"Me too?"

The boys in the room were asking Anna about themselves from all sides.

"Okay, if I can see some magic around here, you boys might get a free ticket to paradise. But Smith is still ahead of you guys, he already knows how to use his magic. That's one of the reasons he's my favourite." Turning to her side, Anna gave Smith another peck on his cheek.

"Why does he keep getting pecks?" Kevin complained again.

"I said it before, because he's my favourite. Any more complaints from you and you might not get to see this butt jiggle." Anna said tapping her butt.

"You better shut up man." Kyle said.

"Yeah dude shut up." another male student concurred.

"Miss Anna?" Diane called. "You keep talking about how you're going to reward the boys, what about us girls?"

"Yeah Miss Anna, what about us?"

"I'll tell you what, if you girls can also show me some magic, I'll let you know how to use the spell every girl has over a boy."

"We don't want that." a girl said.

"Are you kidding? Of course we want it."

"I know you do. After all, you're all still teenagers." Anna said to them.

"Now you remember that?" Jake asked from the side.

Smiling at him, Anna replied "Don't test me Jake. You want me to come over there and tell you if I remember it or not?"

"No no, I'm good."

"Great. Now that we all have an understanding, am I going to see some magic or what?" Anna shouted
