It was midday in the city, and most people were working. It helped decrease the traffic on the streets and allowed Ember and Elric to call for a cab right away.
In just a couple minutes after they put in a request, a cab pulled up outside the house.
Despite the fact that they were going out to pick out new clothing, both of them had put on some of their finer threads for the outing.
Elric was wearing a fairly new button-down shirt and had a somewhat business-casual look. It seemed Ember only had one nice dress, that being the red one she wore when she went to the bar to sing. It was the same one he'd seen her wearing in the video where she was humiliated by Nulstaya and Angeline.
As the couple jumped into the back of the cab, Ember's side brushed up against Elric's arm.
"Ember, that dress is really soft."
Figuring it wouldn't be too weird, he reached up and felt the dress up where it was cut off by her shoulders.
"Buddy, at least tell me where you two want to go before you start getting touchy."
A gruff voice sounded from the front of the car, and Elric looked up to see a mustached man looking back in annoyance.
"Ah, sorry. We're heading to that clothing store on 24th St."
"Alright, I know the one. It'll take us about half an hour to get there. You kids have fun in the back."
Clicking a button, a shaded visor rose out from between the two front chairs, creating a barrier between the couple and the driver.
"Uh… I suddenly feel worse about being in the cab. I really hope he disinfects this back seat regularly."
Ember tilted her head as she looked over at Elric.
"Hm? Why's that?"
"You… I don't understand you, Ember. One moment your mind is dirty, and the next, you are too innocent."
"I…"
Ember's eyebrows scrunched as she tried to figure out what Elric was referring to as dirty in this situation.
'Maybe there are a lot of farmers with dirt on their clothes riding in here? No… there aren't many close to the city. Ah! W- what if he's talking about that thing?! ... but don't people only do that in bed?'
Ember randomly remembered the layout of Elric's room, the large, inviting bed against the back wall.
"Eeeeee…"
Elric couldn't help but be a bit confused as he watched Ember's expression change.
'She makes for the cutest teacup ever… she even makes the same noises sometimes. Still, why is she getting embarrassed? Shouldn't she be more disgusted?"
After watching her for a good couple of minutes, Elric finally decided to help her out.
"Cough, so, your dress that you're wearing right now. Where did you get it?"
"Oh, right! My dress!"
A bit of the red fled from Ember's face as she grinned proudly.
"My mom made this for me! Back home, she runs a small fabrics company, but she said that she'd never tried making a dress before this one."
Ember's face darkened as she seemed to remember something, but Elric jumped in.
"Wow, her first time making one of these, and it looks so amazing?! I don't think it looks good just because you're wearing it, I bet that dress would look great anywhere!"
"R- really?"
Elric gave her a thumbs-up, and Ember's grin grew.
"I'll make sure to tell Mom what you think!"
Ember leaned over, motioning for Elric to feel the dress again.
"It's made out of silk, and it's super comfortable too! If I could, I'd wear this every day!"
After a short pause, she glanced out of the dimmed side windows of the cab.
"But it looks like I'll be wearing something else for this party. It's fine with me, I can still wear Mom's dress whenever I want at home!"
The couple continued chatting, and after a while longer, there was a knock at the divider between the front and back seats.
"Ah, we must've arrived."
A few moments later, the driver rolled down the divider and looked back at the couple.
"Hm, no action? Too late if you wanted any now, we're here."
"Thank you for the ride."
After passing the driver payment for the ride, the couple departed from the cab. Before them was a luxury fashion brand's shop. A young man with a flamboyant hairstyle and a confident grin stood just outside the doors.
"Well well well. It seems Milky wasn't lying. It's a pleasure to meet you, Madam Kind."
After greeting Ember in a strange manner, the young man turned to face Elric.
"Glory to The Boys."
"Glory to The Boys. Good afternoon, West."
Waving his arm like he was a professional butler, West beckoned for the couple to come inside.
"I've prepared our finest designers to outfit the two of you. My father owns this company, so the two of you don't need to worry about prices. Feel free to take whatever you want."
"I- is that really ok?"
"Yes. Our lead designer, Madam Sela, will be assisting you today. Please work with her to pick out a dress for the party. We will have Elric's suit match whatever you choose, so please enjoy yourself."
After Ember left with the designer, West turned back to Elric.
"Please follow me."
A small grin couldn't help but slowly grow on Elric's face as West led him back through the store, not even stopping after they reached staff-only areas.
"There's a trap door here, help me pull it open."
After arriving at an inconspicuous maintenance room, the duo moved a few cleaning tools out of the way and worked together to pull the floor up.
Once they got it open, Elric was able to see a staircase leading down into some dark underground depths.
"This is just one of our minor meeting locations, but it should serve finely for your first time."
Flicking on the flashlight feature on his phone, West led the way down the staircase. It was at least thirty steps down, and Elric was sure they'd gone far past a normal basement depth by the time they finally reached the floor.
