When the crew reached their designated field, they picked out a few empty rows and moved to where a small flag designated the furthest picked spot. When they looked around the rest of the field, they could see a few other groups also there picking berries.
"Ryan… why is everyone else in this field old?"
There were a few younger kids paired up with their grandparents, but every other group on the same field had at least a few elders with them.
"Did your uncle put us on a field for elders?"
Both Ember and Ryan nodded.
"Probably, they'll normally send family or close friends to the best fields, too. Sending elders here lets them pick better berries quicker too, so it should be a bit easier for them. It's a lot nicer than sending them to the regular fields."
Lace frowned as she set her bucket down on the straw beneath her.
