Chapter 1 - The Beginning

In the middle of a large circular hall lay a young man surrounded by a growing puddle of blood.

The young man seemed to be around 20 years old with ragged clothes and black hair that were dyed red from the blood.

In the middle of the young man's chest was a narrow wound that seemed to penetrate through his entire body.

Suddenly he opened his eyes showing reflecting his despair as he began chuckling silently creating ripples throughout the pool of blood.

"Of course, it would be me, who else would he... "

Before the young man could finish his sentence he was forced to cough up some of the blood that was gathering in his lungs.

As he lay there he shifted his head to look up at the large stone tablet that was the cause of his current predicament.

The tablet stated 'One must die for the rest to survive' and without any doubt or remorse he thrust his sword through his stomach.

The look in his eyes gradually changed from despair to anger as he silently vowed that even if he needed to become a demon he would make them pay.

Suddenly a translucent window popped up in front of his eyes removing him from his thoughts.

[00:00:34]

Hope returned to the young man's eyes when he saw this notification. The young man began silently praying that whatever this 'gift' was that it could save him from his inevitable doom.

In the corner of a classroom, a young man was half sleeping leaning on his desk with a defeated look in his eyes as he stared at his teacher who had just finished his 45-minute explanation of his analysis of a short story, an explanation that had used its magical abilities to make him drowse off after 3 sentences.

He was sure that his teacher could make a lot more money by helping people sleep than with this teaching job.

Just as his teacher was about to begin going further into detail on every literary device the sound of the school bell came flying in like an angel who would save him from this hell.

He began hurriedly packing his bags and getting ready to savor the sweet taste of freedom.

"Wait for a second Alan" Just before he was about to leave the classroom his teacher called out to him like the whisper of the devil.

"We need to talk about your grades, I know that it has been hard on you recently, but you can't ignore your grades like this anymore" Realizing that it was about the same topic again Alan's eyes darkened and he turned his back his teacher and left the classroom.

Seeing Alan leave the teacher did not get angry, but instead look at Alan's back with a complex look in his eyes.

Alan savored the sweet taste of freedom as he left the classroom and made his way down to the exit of the school. After leaving he quickly made his way home.

"I'm home" He shouted as he entered his house out of habit and was only met with silence and darkness.

Alan's expression sank as he realized that he was alone in the house and he turned on the lights in an attempt to make it more homely to no avail.

He then continued to the living room where he slumped down onto the sofa and preceded to take out his mobile phone to see if anything was happening.

As he was playing with his phone something in the corner of his eye caught his attention, it was a framed picture of a happy family of three standing upon a shelf.

Seeing the picture Alan slowly rose from the sofa and began to approach it before putting it face down so that he could not see it anymore.

When he returned to the sofa he was not in the mood to play with his phone and instead, just sat there face down with a blank look in his eyes.

As he was in deep thought a notification from the phone awoke him.

He quickly picked up the phone and unlocked the front screen to see that it was Connor reminding him about the high school reunion.

He usually didn't go to these "class reunions" because if he knew them correctly it wasn't an actual reunion but rather an invitation to get drunk and to show off what school they came accepted into. A plan they came up with the day before and would most likely only be chaos.

He debated it quietly for a while before deciding that it would not be too bad of a thing to get drunk right now and have something to distract him. And that it would be good to get out of the house as it weirdly felt even more restricting than the classroom.

Thinking this he hurriedly went as it was quite a distance away from him and he would be late if he did not leave immediately.

As he arrived he saw that it was quite a few people there, 14 if he did not see wrong. Though he did not recognize all of them so it seemed like Connor had just invited some random people.

But seeing some familiar faces felt weird to him. He was close to some of them before, but he could barely recognize them now.

As he approached he met Connor at the entrance.

"I did not expect you to come" Connor said as Alan had turned down all the prior "class reunions".

"Well, I can't keep turning you down" Alan answered with a faint smile on his face. He and Connor had been good friends in high school but lately, they kept drifting apart as Connor got drunk more and more often.

"Want to talk about it?" As the question left Connors's mouth Alan fell completely silent before answering with a simple "no" after a few seconds.

Seeing that the atmosphere had turned awkward Connor quickly invited Alan in and shouted to James to get Alan some drinks.

After finding an empty sofa to sit down on James approached him with two drinks in his hands and handed one of them to Alan.

"You know we are here for... " Before James could finish the sentence Alan interrupted him with a cold look in his eyes showing that he was sick of hearing this conversation over and over.

Having seen that the atmosphere had once again turned awkward Alan downed his drink and then went to the counter to find himself another one.

As he was reaching for another cup he heard something behind him causing him to turn around and see that Michael had already managed to get drunk and began confessing weird things loudly to one of his friends who he thought was his mother.

Seeing that Michael would experience social death if he let him continue one of his friends began guiding him to one of the closed rooms before shutting him in there and letting him sleep.

The "class reunion" continued until the clock was beginning to approach midnight.

When the digital clock finally reached 00:00 a "ping" sound could be heard throughout the house and a translucent window popped up in front of Alan.

[Initiating the trial]

[Upon completion of the first trial all participants will receive a gift]

[Trial 1: survive for 24 hours]

Alan was doubting his vision when he saw the translucent window and wondered if it was a hallucination.

Alan then quickly looked around the room to see that everyone else was also looking at a similar translucent window, all showing the same message.

[Proceeding with teleportation to the trial area]

As another message popped up blue particles began rising from the ground slowly engulfing them and forcing them to close their eyes.

When Alan opened his eyes he saw that he was in a narrow corridor, about 8 meters wide. With him were all the members of the "class reunion".

Suddenly the translucent window popped up into his face once again.

[Number of participants: 15]

The notification brought Alan out of his shock and he began looking around in hopes of identifying where he was.

As he looked around he saw that behind them was a weapon rack that was stacked with different metal weapons of different shapes ranging from swords to halberds.

Seeing this he quietly approached the weapon rack before picking up a spear and softly pressing his finger at its end to check its sharpness. The skin on his finger was immediately penetrated leaving a small bleeding wound.

As he checked the spear the others also quickly began inspecting the weapon rack and began picking up some weapons. Connor took up a sword while James chose a morning star.

While Alan was inspecting his spear he suddenly heard a scream from behind causing him to instinctively turn around.

When he turned around he saw Michael laying on the ground screaming with a dagger in his stomach. Behind Michael stood a small green figure who began repeatedly stabbing Michael in the chest.

The small figure had a striking resemblance to a goblin, it had green skin with small stature, and seemed to be only 120 cm tall.

[Number of participants: 14]

The notification woke Alan up out of his shock and he began sprinting forward with his spear pointed in the direction of the goblin's stomach.

When Alan was in range he thrust his spear forward penetrating the goblin's stomach and causing the goblin the bleed excessively and fall backward seemingly dead.

Seeing that the creature was dead, Peter another member of the "class reunion" began approaching the creature's corpse to see what kind of monster it was.

When he was about a meter away from the corpse it suddenly came back to life leaping upwards with its dagger slicing Peter's neck creating a fountain of blood, dyeing the creature completely red.

Now it was Connor that was first to react and sprinted forward towards the goblin slashing it across its chest with his sword.

The slash was a few centimeters deep and spanned from the creature's shoulder to the bottom of its waist creating another fountain of blood dyeing Connor's blond hair red.

Everyone stood there in silence staring at the corpse of what seemed to be a goblin with no one daring the be the second Peter.

[Number of participants: 13]

The translucent window reminded everyone of reality again as they quickly began approaching Peter to attempt first aid.

Alan was quick to put his hands on Peter's neck in an attempt to put pressure on the wound.

But this action seemed futile as the bleeding didn't slow down and the blood puddle around them only continued to expand.

"He is dead" Said Connor as he began to slowly approach Peter's corpse pushing away some of the people that were administrating first aid.

Then Connor proceeded to lift Michael's corpse and carried it to the corner of the hallway behind them and proceeded with placing it down.

Then he proceeded to do the same with Michael's corpse and threw it into the corner.

"Everyone pick up a weapon and begin moving," Connor said with a cold look in his eyes to the people in the back who had done nothing throughout the entire event.

There was some resentment toward Connor, but everyone did as they were told and picked up a weapon, and proceeded with walking towards the end of the hall.

Alan stood there mostly shocked at the sidelines as he watched all of the events with Connor unfold in front of his eyes.

Seeing that a few people had begun moving the rest quickly followed as nobody wanted to be the last person in the line.

As they moved nobody dared to be within two meters of the strange creature's corpse as they passed by in fear of having the same fate as Peter.

The group moved slowly through the long hallway while always being on guard. Alan was placed near the front of the group next to Connor as he had proven his usefulness as the first one to react to the goblin.

The ones that were frozen in fear were placed in the back of the group by Conner. It may have been so that they were being protected from any frontal assaults or it may be because Connor thought of using them as meat shields for any attack from behind.

After having walked for almost fifteen minutes the group finally could see a source of light from the end of the hallway.

As they exited the hallway they saw a large circular hall with a total of 15 entrance points from every direction.

In the middle of this hall was a large circle with a large diversity of supplies in the middle ranging from tents to logs to bows and arrows.
