Chapter 9 - Nine

ADAM STEPPED INTO HIS DIMLY LIT LIVING ROOM AND GAZED AROUND, TAKING in the familiar surroundings he had missed so much. It had been almost a year since he had last been home, and he was excited to see Nova again.

He...However, as he looked around, his heart grew heavy with unease; Nova was nowhere to be found. Eventually, he made his way up to his own room and pushed the door open, only to be met by an empty space.

As he stepped inside, he noticed a small envelope on his neatly made bed. His heart raced with anticipation as he eagerly tore it open, hoping to find some sort of explanation for Nova's absence.

Dear Adam,

I hope this letter finds you well. It has taken me a while to find the right words to say, but I think that now is the time to come clean.

I know that you left for your business trip with the idea that we may have a future together. You were always so kind and caring towards me, and as time went by, I found myself developing feelings for you too.

However, I have to admit that I made a mistake. I know that you were interested in me, but the truth is that I was never really available emotionally. I know that this must have hurt you, and I am truly sorry for giving you the wrong idea.

The thing is, Adam, I have met someone else. Someone who has shown me what it truly means to be loved unconditionally. I didn't mean to hurt you, but I had to be honest with you.

I understand if you never want to see or speak to me again. I just wanted to tell you the truth and apologize for any pain that I might have caused you.

I wish you all the success in your future endeavors, Adam. You are a wonderful person, and I hope that you find happiness and love.

Sincerely,

Nova.

But as he read her words, his heart fell to his feet. Her words felt like a stab in his heart, as he had been so sure that things were going to be different when he returned home.

Adam sat on his bed, staring at the letter that Nova had left him. His heart raced as he read the words over and over again. It didn't make sense to him. Everything had felt so perfect between them, and now it was all gone. He felt a mixture of betrayal, sadness, and anger building up inside of him.

"How could she do this to me?" he shouted to himself, feeling a sense of rage and betrayal.

He jumped up from his bed and began to pace around the room, feeling the anger and frustration build up inside of him. He picked up a vase from the bedside table and hurled it across the room, watching as it smashed against the wall. He wanted to destroy everything around him.

As he continued to trash the room, Adam felt a deep sense of sadness fill him. He was ready to give everything to Nova, and she had just walked away without even looking back. He knew that he had to move on, but he couldn't help but feel the crushing weight of the pain she had caused him.

After a few minutes of trashing the room, Adam finally collapsed onto the bed, feeling emotionally and physically drained. He didn't know how he was going to move forward from this, but he knew that he would have to find a way. He couldn't let Nova's betrayal break him. He would have to find a way to pick himself back up and move forward, even though he didn't know how yet.

In that moment, Adam realized that love could be both beautiful and cruel. It was something that could lift you up to incredible heights and then bring you crashing down to earth. He knew that moving on wouldn't be easy, but he also knew that he had to focus on building his business and making a life for himself. With a heavy heart, he laid back on the bed, wondering what the future held for him.

A future he plan to spend with her.

Adam was lost in his thoughts when he received a phone call from his father. He could hear the urgency and demand in his father's voice and he knew that something important had come up.

"Adam, I need to speak with you urgently. A daughter of a family friend, Samantha, has arrived in town, and I need you to introduce her to the business world," his father said with a serious tone.

Adam couldn't believe it. He hasn't seen Samantha in years and didn't even know she was coming to town. "Why does she need to be introduced to the business world? Can't you do that?" he asked his father.

Samantha Jones and Adam were childhood best buddies, they were inseparable back then but as time goes on, the Jones moved away distrubting their relationship.

"I have my own obligations Adam. This is something that I need you to take care of. Samantha needs to be introduced to the right people and the right opportunities. And who better to do that than my own son, who has made a name for himself in the business world?" his father replied sternly.

Adam felt a sense of pressure and obligation. "Alright, I'll take care of it. When do you need me to meet with her?" he asked his father.

"Tomorrow afternoon. I'll send someone to pick you up. Wear something formal, Adam. We need to make a good impression," his father said before ending the call.

Adam couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed. He had a lot of work to catch up with, and now he had to take care of his sister too. But, he knew that he couldn't back down from the challenge.
