"It's that girl in the tank top, but why is she here?"
Luo An recognized her identity immediately, quickly holstered his gun and checked her condition. He found that the girl had been shot in the shoulder and excessive blood loss was the main reason for her unconsciousness.
Seeing the girl's pale face and her increasingly rapid breathing, Mona grew extremely anxious and unconsciously looked at Luo An:
"I remember she had already left... What should we do? I just threw the emergency medical kit to the patrol officer up the hill!"
"It's okay."
Luo An shifted his gaze slightly and solemnly said:
"Her current condition doesn't allow for movement. You need to drive back immediately and retrieve the medical kit from the patrol officer. I'll call the nearby hospital and ask them to send an ambulance here as quickly as possible."
"OK."
Mona nodded, stowed her gun, and hurriedly drove the glassless SUV back the same way.
Seeing the SUV disappear completely, Luo An first called the hospital to hasten the ambulance, then turned around, assured that Conrad was still unconscious, before letting down his guard to open the light blue system interface and took out the hemostatic medicine.
This was the first time Luo An was using the medicine formulated by the system. The medicine was contained in a small transparent glass bottle, about five centimeters tall and squarely shaped, filled with a red liquid which had no smell when he opened the cap.
Seeing the bottle labeled for oral use, Luo An pried open the girl's mouth and poured the entire bottle of medicine into it.
Seconds later, the wound on the girl's shoulder hadn't healed, but it had stopped bleeding.
Momentarily, Mona returned in the SUV. Without waiting for her to get out, Luo An snatched the emergency medical kit from her hands. By the time Mona walked over to the girl, Luo An had nearly finished bandaging her.
Mona didn't think much, assuming Luo An was just anxious to save the girl's life.
"By the way, Mona."
After tying the bandage into a butterfly knot, Luo An turned around, smiling at Mona:
"Have you decided which investigative unit you want to join after officially becoming an agent?"
"?"
...
One hour later, Luo An and Mona returned to the 23rd floor of the Jacob Federation Building.
At this time, the office for trainee agents was bustling and lit up brightly, with all the trainees who had run in vain earlier now enviously watching Luo An and Mona, sitting at the front of the office, whispering to each other.
According to the regulations for traineeship, trainee agents who solve cases must narrate the entire investigation process to several senior agents responsible for traineeships. After listening, the senior agents will pose questions and score the trainees based on their performance.
This score determines which position trainee agents will occupy in the investigative unit after being regularized, like a technical agent handling data research or a field agent for outdoor missions.
"It's just that they were luckier than us, finding the culprit's lead first."
Jody, who had been beaten by Luo An, took a sip of the coffee handed to him by a teammate and looked disparagingly at Luo An and Mona:
"I heard that during their arrest, they destroyed a vehicle from headquarters. Wondering how the team supervisor will punish them."
"Definitely a salary deduction."
The intern agent next to Jody, who wore glasses, chuckled:
"I asked around; they destroyed the latest SUV model of our Criminal Investigation Department, just think about the rumors outside about Supervisor Vireness..."
"You mean being stingy…"
"Cough, cough."
At this point, the two looked at each other and simultaneously burst into laughter, anticipating a good show.
The supervisor they were referring to was named Vireness, the top boss of investigation teams one through five, and she was the woman who tightly controlled the operational funds of all five investigation teams.
On the side, intern agent Alina, who overheard their entire conversation, disdainfully glanced at them.
She thought it was ridiculous to call others lucky; Jody's team was completely wrong in their approach to finding the murderer! Even if Luo An's team didn't end up catching the real culprit, it definitely wouldn't be Jody's team.
Thinking this, Alina's gaze shifted to Luo An at the front, her eyes gradually becoming dreamy as she admired Luo An's handsome profile.
"Here they come, here they come."
The office door was pushed open, and the intern agents quickly ceased talking and sat up straight, hoping to make a good impression on the senior agents who would soon discuss the case resolution with them.
To the interns' surprise, though the familiar Mediterranean senior agent entered, the first to walk into the office was actually their supervisor, Vireness!
"What?"
"Supervisor?"
"Why did she come?"
Seeing Vireness in a women's suit, sporting a neat short haircut, and expressionless, the intern agents' office instantly buzzed.
Following Vireness were the leaders of the five investigation teams; the six of them sat at the front of the office, and the Mediterranean senior agent, who usually listened to the case briefings, had no seat and had to stand at the side of the room.
Mona, too, being part of the investigation, was puzzled. It was just a minor murder case; she didn't understand why it would attract the attention of their supervisor. Failing to figure it out, she instinctively looked towards Luo An.
"..."
Luo An didn't understand either why he caught the attention of his superior's superior, but he didn't care. He believed in facing problems as they come, confident that he didn't do anything wrong. Decisively, he stood up with a smile, confidently walked with Mona to the front of the office.
Ignoring the grim-faced team leader Broson, who looked as dark as the bottom of a pot, Luo An gestured for Mona to place the laptop containing their materials in front of Supervisor Vireness and, after coughing lightly, he smiled and said:
"Good evening, commanders, I am intern agent Luo An, and this is my teammate, intern agent Mona."
After briefly introducing the basic information about the victim's time and place of death, Luo An started to explain his investigative process after 12 PM today. He began with determining the murderer's escape route in the park, then used the autopsy report to find the bar the victim had visited before his death. From there, they discovered the identity clue of the second follower, and by pulling the threads they confronted the murderer outside the follower's villa. Eventually, after a fierce intellectual and physical struggle, they managed to catch the real culprit.
Mona: "..."
The interns listened to Luo An's thorough recount with their mouths agape, and several investigation team leaders were also captivated, including team leader Broson.
Except for Supervisor Vireness.
Seeing Luo An finish his recount, Vireness emotionlessly flipped open her notebook and after pondering for a few seconds, asked:
"Culprit Conrad is a veteran. Why would he kill war correspondent Mike Robert and New York University professor West Watts? What was the reason?"
Hearing Vireness's question, everyone who was lost in Luo An's storytelling snapped back to reality.
Indeed, Luo An had caught the culprit, but he hadn't explained why the culprit did it, what the motive was—personal revenge or an old grudge?
"Sorry, commander."
Augustus quickly winked at Luo An then explained:
"Luo An is an intern agent and does not have the qualification to interrogate the culprit Conrad, so he..."
"So Luo An cannot answer your question, commander."
Team leader Broson said with a smile, taking over from Augustus.
Augustus's face instantly turned darker than the bottom of a pot.
