Chapter 72 - Drunk on a Feeling

Today's healing session begin much like the previous one, except with more injured coming in on the first wave. Word from the British soldiers that were being treated, was how numerous the omnic numbers were. At first, any soldier that would come in would be in a panicked state, then immediately on looking at me heal someone, they would be relieved. A lot weren't even healed by me and still in an unfit condition and wanted to back out fighting.

As I got finished healing yet another gunshot victim, a patient is directed my way, with her stump of an arm. Looking at it, I stop myself from cringing at the gristle and blood slowing leaking from it, as she herself was in a daze. My first thought was that the arm was done for, about to cut it to even it out before patching it up.

But then, I think, I've healed entire holes in people, I think I can probably regrow a limb. The first thing that I do before attempting this, is giving her some morphine to alleviate the pain and put her to sleep because I'm going to be focused entirely on her and I don't want her feelings to interfere. Next, I install a tourniquet around her arm which will stop the bleeding long enough for me to possibly restore her limb.

Taking a deep breath, I place my hands on her as I begin to feel the signals of her bioelectricity. Although she was on painkillers, I somehow still felt the pain assaulting her arm, which I thought was unfair. Regardless, I found the chaotic state her bioelectricity was in, showing that she was dying.

With my interference, they calm down, and I send the signal to restore her cells in her arm, as if closing a wound like usual. The bioelectricity relays the signals, but nothing happens. Figuring that it wouldn't be so easy, I instead tell them to stop the bleeding, which they do. Taking off her tourniquet and not feeling the pain from her arm, I now have the time to figure out how to restore her arm.

My own bioelectricity sped up, allowing me to think faster as I reflected on everything I knew, even in this day and age, there was a study into bioelectricity, but as there was no way to directly influence it, the study was mostly theories. From what I've looked up on the internet, bioelectricity was known to be found among skin, which sent signals through the nervous system to the brain should any injuries happen.

Once an injury among tissue was sensed, the brain would send a signal to, which would attract the cells responsible for repair. That much is known to the world about what they can do. But, from experience, I knew they could do much more. They controlled every chemical action within the body, which made it possible to speed up and strengthen movements.

Then, I understand how to restore her arm. When the signal is sent from the brain to restore tissue, it awakens a 'memory' within the cells on how to restore it. Since I lacked the memory of her arm, I had to take a second to memorize it before continuing it. Placing my hands back on her, and ignoring the pain due to excitement, I awaken the memory stored within the cells and send the signal.

They begin their work, cleansing the dead cells that remained in her body as they restored the missing cells. An obvious boost, from myself, was required to help accelerate the healing process. While I focused on maintaining the working of the cells, the room watched my work in wonder.

They all looked at the slow, but sure restoration of an arm. First the bone would come back, followed by the muscle, then get closed off with the skin. Finally, after 25 minutes, as if she never lost it, her arm was laying on the bed with her.

The intoxication of doing something that beyond what I thought capable washes over me as I move on to the next patient. My confidence in my healing abilities took a massive boost as I wondered of my limitations.

While I was in my moment, a shiver went through the city. Even on our end, word made it to us that the omnics were dominating our defenses. Given our situation, as we were surrounded, we had no escape. Our own reinforcements were on the way, but at this rate they wouldn't make it in time. Therefore, a commander of the British army was asking for any and all help while they still had the chance.

Hearing this, without hesitation, I left the hospital, weapon in hand and S3bastian at my side ready to assist the soldiers before I realized it. The British soldiers who were in the hospital, seeing that I was going to go fight, rose to fight alongside me, whether they were healed or not.

It was as though as I was drunk, as I fought against the omnics. My body formed plans and acted on its own, all the while I could feel like I was on the verge of discovering something, and this was the moment that I needed. The soldiers beside saw the vigor behind my fighting and matched it, easily pushing back the Bastions outside the city.

Suddenly, S3bastian calls out a missile, and I dive to the ground for cover. As an explosion goes off near me, the battle itself slows as I lay there. Taking the soft feel of the grass between my fingers, I come to a realization.

Bioelectricity was in every living cell. If there was no bioelectricity, the cell was most definitely dead. Plants had cells.

Almost by instinct, from trying to sense from so many patients, my senses called out for bioelectricity. But it didn't just stop from what I was holding, it extended around me.

Standing up, ignoring that I was in the middle of a battle, I take off my helmet and stare in amazement at the view before me. As if looking through a x-ray, I could see through the bodies of soldiers. I could see their brain, and their nervous system as bright blue dots travelled through their veins.

Not only them, but I could see the dots in each individual blade of grass. Looking over, I could see the lines travelling through the Bastion units, keeping them powered.

Closing my eyes, I felt the ecstasy of emotions from different soldiers currently on the battlefield. The fear of death, the need to succeed, the admiration in each other's battle prowess. Looking over at S3bastian, who was using his body to protect my own, he stared at me. I could feel the confusion ebbing off him as I too saw the blue dots streak throughout his body.

Laughing almost manically, I realized what I was so desperately trying to subconsciously unlock.

I could see bioelectricity.
