Chapter 5 - Repeatable Mission

All the new outer disciples quickly gathered outside of the new disciples pavilion, they tried to line up nearly in front of the elder.

Elder Xiao: "Good Morning. I hope all of you memorized the knowledge that was imparted to you yesterday because it is now time for each of you to choose a pavilion to be an apprentice of. each Pavilion offers different benefits as well as demerits for being an apprentice. However they all offer a steady income of martial credits, choose wisely as you may not change your apprenticeship after you've chosen unless specifically allowed by a great elder or above.

in addition to this no matter the apprenticeship you take, it is mandatory to visit the mission pavilion once a month to accept a mission and complete it successfully. Yes, that means if you fail in the mission you will need to undergo more missions until you have successfully completed one. In the same vein of this if you fail more than 4 missions over the next year's time you will be expelled from the sect.

Do I make myself clear?"

It was at this point all of the new disciples shouted yes and bowed to show their respect, even though some of them were slightly disgruntled none of them were scared they wouldn't meet the mission requirement afterall they were all children, they had no idea how hard the missions might be. during all of this Tai Bàoli had been thinking quite hard about where to be an apprentice.

Plenty of the disciples had already begun making their way to the pavilion they wanted to begin an apprenticeship at, Tai Bàoli even saw Liu Yanjiang making her way towards a pavilion, it looked like she was going to choose the array pavilion. Maybe she had some sort of affinity for becoming an array master, or maybe her father had made another choice for her again, but it didn't matter.

After some long thoughts Tai Bàoli finally came up with the idea of becoming an apprentice for the martial arts library, it would be there that he'd be able to see the most martial arts as well as help others in choosing martial arts that fit them. It seemed like a win-win, as an added bonus he'd be able to keep track of what some people were learning in case he ever had to fight them or maybe even help them.

With his mind made up he quickly made his way to the library, as he got to the front desk he'd see the familiar elder from before.

Tai Bàoli: "Hello Elder, This disciple would like to apply for an apprenticeship."

The elder looked Tai Bàoli over, not many disciples wanted to do the menial tasks of cleaning and keeping up the martial arts library, most of them wanted to learn alchemy, or arrays, or even become part of the law enforcement pavilion to uphold justice. And the ones that did join the martial arts library were usually scrawny outer disciples that hadn't been able to progress in years.

Elder Lin: "Good morning Tai Bàoli, I am Elder Lin, of course your apprenticeship will be accepted, but before I do, are you sure of what this entails? you will be doing menial tasks around the library? you won't be actively learning about anything that can make you rich quickly, or hone your body. On top of this you'd be getting paid the lowest amount of martial credits out of any pavilion at only 25 a month. Even a low mortal grade technique costs minimum 100 martial credits, if you joined the law enforcement pavilion you'd be making nearly triple the martial credits a month are you sure about this?"

Tai Bàoli Bowed and spoke "Absolutely Elder Lin, thank you for your concern, but I'm certain of my choice."

Elder Lin merely shook his head and took Tai Bàoli's identification badge inscribing something that changed it to also have his apprentice occupation on it.

Elder Lin: "You are free to start your tasks immediately, don't forget at least once a month you need to finish a mission successfully."

Tai Bàoli: "Thank you Elder Lin."

It was then Tai Bàoli immediately went to go learn his tasks and complete them. Surprisingly as he began them a mission screen popped up.

----------

-Repeatable Mission-(Clean the Library!)

-Mission Outline-(Work hard completing all your janitorial tasks!)

-Mission Difficulty-(Easy)

-Experience Payout- (.5 experience everyday you complete your tasks.)

-----------

Tai Bàoli: ("Holy shit! .5 experience a day? that means if I work everyday for the next month I'd have 15 experience gained!?! that's huge! I doubt anyone else is gonna be able to keep up with my cultivation speed at that point.")

Of course Tai Bàoli immediately accepted and completed all of his tasks as fast as possible, one might even say the library had never been so clean before. It took around 5 to do, and absolutely exhausted Tai Bàoli, but at least he had completed the mission today and got to go back to his pavilion room, where he'd sit and contemplate where to put his new found experience.

As finished allocating his points something changed within him, his skin wiggled and writhed in place clearly he had gained immense benefits from upgrading his Mastery of bears hide to mid. However something else soon followed, an absolutely unbearable itching sensation, the huge increase of durability and quick change of the upgrade brought so much change it was almost as if his body couldn't handle it.

Normally someone in the flesh training stage of the body refining realm wouldn't have a technique like this already mastered so much. So Tai Bàoli clearly felt immense strength. The sensation lasted around 20 minutes before it overtook Tai Bàoli and knocked him unconscious, wherein he'd wake up 2 hours later covered in black muck, clearly his body had been refined far further then usual, the black muck was loads of impurities that had been expelled from his skin.

This came as a huge surprise though because usually the expelling of so many impurities didn't come until you ascended past the flesh training stage, and Tai Bàoli could clearly tell he hadn't done that yet. but he felt stronger then ever, it was at this point Tai Bàoli looked at his System screen and found something unbelievable.

Increasing Bears hide to Mid had actually given him a passive +1 to his strength, which was absolutely astounding. +1 strength was the equivalent to 10 experience, clearly the upgrade was absolutely worth it. He had basically doubled the value of his 5 experience, and it even made him begin to wonder what upgrading his techniques even further would do, it also opened his eyes though.

If he got bonuses like this from his techniques, that meant other probably got the bonuses too, they just didn't have a screen to directly numericalize the increase. Tai Bàoli stayed excited he couldn't wait to upgrade his techniques more or increase his stats, life in this sect was going to be extremely fun.
