"What we need to do is, find transportation out of the city. Mass transportation for everyone. And we need to do it fast," Mayor Barnes stated. "Go scout out the bus terminals and any other larger transports we can find."
"Okay, team, let's get this done!" I said, turning around. "We need to find some mass transport out of this cursed city as soon as possible and do it fast. "I'll lead team one with Oliver, and we'll need three teams. Eddie and Bob will lead team two. Thomas and Sal will lead team three. Take who you need, and we'll move out in one hour," Ben said.
"What about those Colonels?" Sal asked.
"Let them do their own thing. They've got VIPs important to our survival to rescue," Mayor Barnes countered.
"We also need teams to recon the city for any other survivors. No direct contact, and do not engage hostile targets. The Mayor can form those teams," I added.
"Any survivors we find will need to be tracked and reported back to the Mayor as soon as possible. We will also have to keep an eye out for any new anomalies such as a change in the public's reaction to what is going on in the city," I paused and thought of what else was essential. "We should also stay vigilant for any potential threats that could arise," I said firmly.
I can't believe how quickly things have changed in this city since this morning. Everything was fine until just a few hours ago, but now everything has gone awry. I step outside and quickly take in the environment around me. The street is filled with people rushing to and from various places. The tension in the air is palpable, and I can only imagine the anxiety that everyone must be feeling. In an effort to ignore the chaos around me, I take a deep breath and try to forget what I am seeing. I need to stay focused and calm. Things will get better, I tell myself, even if I don't believe it.
Although those living outside the metropolis remain blissfully unaware of the danger lurking within its borders or are yet to be impacted by the chaos unfolding, the truth is clear for those who reside within it. The people here are filled with a sense of fear and anxiety as if a dark cloud hangs over the city. Every person I see walks with a sense of urgency, as if they know they must get somewhere as quickly as possible. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, feeling a strange dread over me. What is happening to this city?
As Mayor Barnes and her team of advisors and volunteers, including myself, gathered in the garage of Bellevue Hospital to discuss our next move, the city outside was in chaos. I looked at the others in the room and saw exhaustion and fear in their eyes. We were all on edge, knowing our next move could make or break our plan.
The Mayor cleared her throat to get everyone's attention.
"Okay, let's go over everything we know so far..." she initiated. As she spoke, I couldn't help but wonder if we were going to be able to save this city before it was too late.
"Well, from what we can discern, parts of the city have been overtaken by the forces behind the upheaval. It doesn't appear that the chaos we are experiencing here is happening in all aspects of the city and remains contained to those areas. However, we cannot expect any help from the citizens or emergency services unaffected by this phenomenon," a brunette female aide replied.
Meanwhile, the streets outside the hospital were filled with turmoil and confusion as the remaining members of the NYPD escorted survivors to safety amid the pandemonium. People were running around in a frenzy, trying to get to the safety of the nearest shelter. I could hear sirens and helicopter blades roaring in the distance, and the streets were filled with the chaos of the people trying to survive. It was a scene straight out of a horror movie, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of fear as I took it all in.
As I looked at a monitor displaying the street further down from the hospital, I saw many people dazed and confused, filling the streets, scrambling for safety from whatever. They were all running in different directions, some screaming, some crying, some so paralyzed with fear that they just stood there, not knowing what to do. Even the undead seemed cautious, hanging back and not approaching the panicking people. I felt a cold chill run down my spine. The sight of this chaos was unnerving and surreal. It was as if the world had gone mad, and we were the only ones who knew what was really happening.
Clearly, we all knew that we had to act fast, but we couldn't afford to make any mistakes. We were all exhausted and overwhelmed, but we had to stay focused. Everyone's eyes were fixed on the Mayor as he carefully considered the situation and devised a plan. After a few moments of tense silence, she finally spoke up.
"We need to stay calm and think clearly. What's important is we have to find a safe route outside the rural areas. We had to devise a plan that would consider all the different variables and potential risks. We had to do it fast, but we couldn't afford to make any mistakes," the female Mayor explained.
"We couldn't afford to make a mistake. Despite feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, we remained focused and determined to develop a solid plan of action to help us navigate the crisis," she continued.
"We also cannot forget that the whole city isn't lost, and we'll need to come with reinforcements as soon as possible," Eddie said.
What City Hall lost, Bellevue Hospital was now the primary government left in the city, managing the other sanctuaries left.
As I scanned my surroundings within the emergency command center, my senses were immediately met with the sight of organized chaos. The palpable tension in the air heightened my nerves, causing me to feel on edge.
It was crucial to locate any other survivors, and every piece of information was valuable in our efforts to save as many people as we could. After careful consideration, I made the swift decision to become a part of the reconnaissance team. Our mission was of utmost importance. To find any remaining survivors and gather as much information as possible to aid in our rescue efforts. No matter how small, every detail could make a significant difference in our ability to save as many lives as possible.
I turned to the Mayor, who was currently giving instructions to the different teams. "Alright, let's get our teams together. We've got work to do," I said confidently, hoping to show that I was ready for the challenge ahead.
