Chapter 25 - Chapter 25

Kinsley, Daniel, Lucas, Padma, and Logan came down the hallway and fired their guns at Skorzeny, giving him everything they had but like before their bullets just annoyed him. When Lucas's Owen gun went through its ammo clip, he took out a Mills bomb grenade and threw it only this time Skorzeny caught it. He held onto the grenade even as it exploded in his hand and all it did was make his palm sting.

"Oh, shit!" Lucas quickly reloaded his gun as Skorzeny marched over to them, which is when Clark grabbed him from behind, picked him up and slammed him into the floor. As he was getting up Clark kicked him in the face which sent him crashing through several walls into the front lobby.

He got back to his feet when he was shot from behind. Arthur and Lucas flanked him from the left and aimed up, forcing Skorzeny to cover his head. Daniel and Padma flanked him from the right, keeping him off balance which was the best their weapons could do. The four had to stop to reload their weapons giving Skorzeny an attempt to kill them only for Clark to super speed forward and tackled him out of the hotel. The duo tumbled onto the grass and dirt, but Skorzeny rolled back to his feet and grabbed Clark by the head. He lifted him into the air and punched him in the gut before throwing him at one of the paratrooper gliders parked nearby. Clark's body tore through the glider like a rifle bullet tears through a human body and he dug a small trench when he hit the ground.

Skorzeny walked over to pound Clark's head into the dirt and stain the ground red with blood when Logan jumped on his back and climbed up his shoulders. He took out his pistol and fired the entire clip into Skorzeny's head, making the mutated giant roar in anger and jostle around to shake him off. The point-blank range of the pistol rounds made it so they hurt a lot more then they would have if fired from a distance but still no skin penetration. Skorzeny tried to grab him, but Logan ducked his head from his grasp and took out his knife before stabbing it with all his strength into his back. What should have been the left Trapezius area. Logan managed to generate enough force that his knife dug into the tough skin about an inch and penetrated but that was about it before he couldn't force it through the muscles anymore.

"ARH!" Skorzeny screamed bloody murder as he shook like a bull to try and get his attacker off. Logan nearly lost his grip and decided to try something else. He clenched his right fist and out came three sharp bone claws from between his knuckles and he stabbed Skorzeny in the side. Logan's bone claws were able to dig into his skin like the knife but only went about an inch deep. They still made Skorzeny scream in pain and anger.

Clark laid there on the ground but instead of feeling horrendous pain he actually started to feel better. He looked up at the bright yellow sun in the sky and could feel it rejuvenating his body and giving him strength. Quickly getting to his feet, Clark looked up at the sun and closed his eyes. He could feel the yellow sun radiation being absorbed into his body to give him some newfound strength and energy along with healing his injuries. The bruises on his face and body faded away like they were never there and all the cuts on his face and hands began to glow the same color as the sun. A few seconds later they sealed up and his skin was unblemished like it usually always is. Clark took a deep breath and exhaled as he lowered his head and opened his eyes. Clark didn't know it but there was a slight glow of red in his pupils, but the main takeaway was that he was ready to get back into the fight.

Skorzeny reached back and managed to grab Logan's leg which let him throw him off. Logan tumbled on the ground and retracted his bone claws as Skorzeny reached up in a vain attempt to pull the knife from his back, but his arms and shoulders were too big to reach. "You insignificant, filthy peasant!"

Skorzeny raised his arms up and then brought them down to smash Logan into pieces only for Clark to suddenly appear and block him. There was a loud crack like thunder and a cloud of dust from the impact, but Clark was still standing. The struggle on Skorzeny's face was easy to read as he put all his strength into trying to push Clark away or into the dirt, but he wasn't budging. Clark just glared at him before giving him a powerful shove that sent him flying back.

"Thanks, Logan. I got this." Clark gave him a reassuring nod before walking away. Logan got to his feet as Kingsley, Lucas, Daniel, and Padma came over.

"Is it me or does Kal seem stronger?" Padma questioned.

"It's not you." Logan told her.

Clark super sped over to Skorzeny and picked him up with one hand before throwing him into one of the paratrooper gliders, so he knew what it felt like. "I don't know what you did yourself but it's over. Stand down and surrender before you make me do something I don't want to do." Clark warned him.

"You fool?! Der Übermensch doesn't cower beneath inferior men or their threats!" Skorzeny picked up part of the glider wreckage and threw it, but Clark disappeared in a blur and reappeared in front of him. Skorzeny punched him across the face and Clark turned with the punch but turned back to show he was fine. Skorzeny punched him again, but the same thing happened which started to make him nervous. When he went for the third punch, Clark caught his fist.

"My turn." Clark then punched him in the face. Unlike before this punch had enough force to send Skorzeny into the dirt where he carved out an impact trench. He then jumped forward and landed a hammer fist to Skorzeny's face before quickly following that up with a backfist. Skorzeny struggled to get back to his feet but managed to do so and charged. Clark just disappeared and began to speed around him in a blur, landing punches all over his body and face. All Skorzeny or Clark's team saw was a blur because he was moving at super speed and landing powerful punches all over.

Clark then stopped in front of Skorzeny and pulled his arm back to deliver the mother of all uppercuts. When it made contact it was like an artillery cannon went off and sounded just like it. The impact created a small shockwave and kicked up a lot of dirt while Skorzeny was sent flying like a baseball hit by Babe Ruth. He was sent in an eastward direction, and it wasn't long before he got too tiny to see and disappeared into the distance landing who knows where.

"Bloody hell…" Arthur muttered in astonishment.

"What you said." Daniel agreed.

Clark took a deep breath to calm down from the adrenaline high he experienced and shook his hands which stung a bit from all the punching. He took a brief moment to himself to process what just happened, having never been forced to use his powers like that ever. He was glad it was over and that he and his team were still alive but couldn't help but be worried. He had never seen anything like what happened to that German soldier and if he didn't see him with his own eyes and fight him with his own fists then he wouldn't have believed it. He never thought that he would have met someone who could go toe to toe with him in a fight and actually make him bleed which made him worried. Skorzeny said that there would be more of people like him so whatever happened to him, he needed to find out and they needed to stop it.

Webb, Diggle, Solange, and Halima walked out of the wrecked hotel with a tied up and gagged Mussolini where they joined the others. They managed to make it through the hotel despite all the damage and saw the aftermaths of an intense battle but with Clark standing there and the mutated giant gone they knew who won. "Whoa…" Diggle muttered, looking at the surroundings in awe and confusion.

"What happened?" Solange questioned.

"You had to be here to see it." Padma told them.

Clark was brought out of his thoughts when he saw his team staring at him. "Everyone all right?" He asked and got slow nods from everyone. "Good."

He walked over and they were surprised to see him in one piece after the beating he endured. "What the hell kind of serum did they shoot you up with, Elbert? You don't have a scratch on you. Not so much as a scar." Logan pointed out.

"Not sure but I heal fast." Clark assured him and the others. "And whatever that thing was…it's gone now."

"I think that thing was the Waffen-SS team leader." Webb tossed Clark a piece of fabric that had the Waffen-SS insignia on it. "Found that scrap of fabric in a pile on the floor along with the rest uniform all ripped up. Must have belonged to whoever that was."

"Forget that. I want to know how the hell that fucker got like that? Do the Nazis have their own super soldier program now?" Lucas suggested.

"Looks like it." Diggle said, taking out a large syringe from his pocket. "Found this in the hallway we found the torn-up uniform."

"Keep that safe. We'll have Howard look at that when we get back." Clark ordered so Diggle placed it into his knapsack for safekeeping. "In the meantime, every Italian and German garrison within 10 miles most likely heard our battle and will come to investigate so we need to go now."

"Transports on its way. ETA, 15 minutes." Webb told him.

"Then let's not waste any more time." Arthur said as they all headed to the railway car. Mussolini struggled and was being difficult, so Clark just picked him and placed him over his shoulder to avoid the hassle. It was humiliating to the former Prime Minister but amusing to everyone else. Clark unceremoniously tossed Mussolini into the railway car and the rest of the team got in before he pulled the lever, and it began moving down. He jumped in at the last second and they rode it down the mountainside. A quick five-minute ride down the Italian mountainside. Any other circumstance it would be a picturesque moment but considering they had Benito Mussolini tied up with them way behind enemy lines with likely hundreds of Italian and German Soldiers on the way then they couldn't enjoy the view.

Daniel looked through the scope of his rifle to keep an eye on things when he noticed something. "Sergeant, we got something up ahead!" He announced, alerting everyone. "Down at railway car station on the ground. I'm seeing a lot of German trucks in the area."

"Crap. They know we're here." Logan said when he heard Mussolini chuckle through the gag placed in his mouth, so he punched him across the face. "Any ideas?"

"I've got one. But it'll involve some motion sickness." Clark pointed out.

"Aw, shit." Lucas groaned in annoyance. He and everyone else knew what Clark had planned.

A company of about 125 German Wehrmacht were deployed from the nearby garrison to investigate the sound of thunderous cannon sounds coming from the mountain. Their commanding officer told them to hold up at the railway station in Fonte Cerreto before they made a move. He had to confirm with command about heading up there which is when the railway system activated. Something was coming down to them, so the company set up in strategic positions around the railway station with some covering the trucks and watching the perimeter.

The German soldiers had their guns aimed at the encroaching railway car, ready to shoot at even the slightest provocation. The railway car slowed down as it reached the end of its path at the station in Fonte Cerreto and locked into place. They waited to see if anyone opened the door, but no one did so the commanding officer signaled one of his men to move in and open it. The soldier nodded and attached his bayonet onto the end of his rifle before slowing moving forward. He grabbed onto the handle for the door and yanked it open, pointing his rifle forward only to see a tied up and gagged Mussolini muffling for help.

"Not what you were expecting, huh?" The soldier heard and turned around to see the Man of Steel right behind him. "Guttentag."

Clark smacked the soldier on the helmet which knocked him to the ground hard. He then grabbed the soldier by the belt and threw him into the air like he threw haystacks back in Smallville. He crashed into a group of German Soldiers as Clark super sped forward and sent five German soldiers flying back with a powerful shove before he push kicked one in the stomach with enough force to send him barreling through four more like a bowling ball. He grabbed the bolt-action rifle of one soldier and gave him a light push on the chest, knocking him away before using the rifle like a bat to take out the rest of the Germans in the station.

The German soldiers posted outside guarding the trucks heard the commotion coming from inside and grew antsy. They aimed their weapons on the entrance but since they were so focused on that they didn't see the sneak attack coming from behind and the side. Logan and Lucas came out from behind one of the trucks and they grabbed two Germans from behind. Logan choked him out a bit and then snapped his neck whereas Lucas knifed him in the back. A German heard the commotion and aimed his rifle at them only for Arthur to come from his side and kick out one of his legs and then slash him across the neck with his machete. A German soldier raised his rifle at Arthur's back only for Padma to come from the side and stabbed him in the stomach before stabbing him in the heart and then across the neck. Daniel had taken a crowbar from one of the trucks and smashed a German across the face with it before stabbing him in the chest. A German raised his MP-40 at Daniel's back when Solange rushed over and stabbed him in the hand with her knife. She then quickly stabbed him in the back of his right thigh and when he collapsed to the ground, she finished him off with a knife to the neck. Webb grabbed a German's rifle and threw him over his hip to the ground before taking out his pistol and shooting him in the head. He turned and shot two more Germans dead with his pistol while the rest were gunned down by Diggle and Halima who had flanked them. Everyone checked their corners to make sure that they had taken down all the Germans by the trucks. One of the Germans groaned in pain and actually managed to push himself up only for Webb to shoot him in the head.

Arthur walked over to one of the trucks and got into the driver's seat. Luckily the keys were still in the ignition, so he turned the engine on just as Clark walked out of the railway station with Mussolini slung over his shoulder. "Everyone ok?" He asked and got nods in response. "All right, let's get out of here before we get more company."

Clark dumped Mussolini into the truck, and everyone climbed in. Arthur put the truck in gear and drove them away from the railway station. He turned the truck onto the main road and began heading south where intel said wide open farm and grasslands were more prevalent. Logan and Halima kept their guns aimed at Mussolini while Clark seemed to move his head around like he was looking for something which he actually was. He was using his x-ray vision and his super vision to look for a flat enough open field for the airplane to land and would have enough space to take off.

"Arthur, head due east! There's an open field we can use five kilometers away!" Clark shouted.

"Roger that!" Arthur turned the truck and headed east, using a dirt road. The trip was bumpy but they were in an area occupied mainly by farmers and ranchers so there weren't a lot of military forces around. That could change considering all the noise they made on the mountain. Thankfully, Clark's super hearing hadn't picked up any German or Italian patrols in their immediate area. There were some heading up roads into the mountain but none near the road they were currently on. Arthur saw that the dirt road they were currently on was turning north so to keep heading east he had to go offroad. "Hang on! It's gonna get bumpy!"

Arthur drove the truck off the dirt road and into a field causing the already bumpy ride to get even bumpier. "How're we looking? We have any followers?" Padma wondered as Clark looked around and used his super vision and hearing.

"No, they don't know where we are, but command is deploying another unit to the railway station we were just at. The men there aren't responding. We've still got the element of surprise but the second the plane lands then the better chance we have at getting spotted. Get ready to move quickly." He told everyone and they nodded.

The truck ride got a bit bumpier until they finally arrived at a nice flat, open section of a field perfect for a makeshift runway. "We're here!" Arthur shouted, putting the truck into park by some trees so some of the team could get out.

"Webb, get me in touch with the plane." Clark ordered. Webb nodded and handed him the handset from the radio transceiver and sent out the signal to the radio on their pickup plane. "This is Sergeant Kalvin Elbert, Authentication Brave-Tango-Alpha. Come in."

"Sergeant Elbert, this is Sergeant Jordan. We're entering the Abruzzo region now. Hit a little chop but so far, our appearance hasn't stirred up any flak."

"Roger that. We've got the package. Come to position 41°24'12.2"N 2°10'26.5"E. There's a wide-open field for you to touchdown. You'll see a German truck by the trees marked by smoke. That'll be your landing area." Clark told them.

"Roger that. Adjusting course."

Clark handed Webb the receiver and got out of the truck. "Lucas, pop smoke!"

Lucas took out a smoke grenade and chucked it to the side where it went off and grey smoke started to flood out. "There's a good chance someone's gonna see that." Arthur pointed out.

"By that point we'll be gone." Clark looked around and saw the plane 300 meters away. "Plane's coming in! Get ready!"

Everyone got their gear ready as Sergeant Jordan and Corporal Trevor started their descent at the coordinates that were verified by their navigator on board. They saw the wide-open field Sergeant Elbert told them about which also had what looked like a truck and some grey smoke wafting around. Seeing that they were in the right area they made their descent as fast as they could. They had to remain as level as possible and the second the wheels of the plane touched down, they hit the brakes. Clark and the others watched as the plane skid to a stop in front of them. It slid through the dirt until it finally stopped and began to quickly turn around.

"Go, go!" Clark shouted and everyone rushed over to the plane. He carried Mussolini over his shoulder as the team rushed through the field over to the plane. The engineer seated inside opened the door and helped everyone into the plane as fast as possible. Clark was the last one in after he chucked Mussolini into the plane but when he got in, he heard the distant sound of trucks closing in. "Get us in the air, now!"

"Hang on!" Jordan and Trevor pushed up the accelerator levers and the plane rotors sped up. The pilots released the brakes, and they took off down their makeshift runway as fast as possible. Clark was still hanging with his upper torso out of the door of the plane when he saw two German trucks drive into the field.

"Grenade!" Clark shouted so Lucas tossed him his last one. He pulled the pin and then threw it like he did the rock at the plane, and it smashed into the windshield of one of the trucks. The truck then exploded, and its wreckage crashed into the other truck. Trevor and Jordan pulled up and the plane just managed to take off into the air before running into the wreckage of the German trucks. Any survivors of the grenade and crash hastily tried to shoot at the plane, but it didn't do much. The pilots then adjusted course and took them in a southwest direction heading to Sicily before pulling up into the sky.

"Did we just pull this off?" Solange asked aloud and everyone looked at one another as Clark closed the door to the plane. He took a look, and no one was hurt.

"I think we did." Clark replied and then started to chuckle. Soon enough everyone started to laugh in jubilation and cheered.

"WE JUST DID THE IMPOSSIBLE!" Arthur shouted in glee, and everyone cheered.

"WOO! I never doubted you for a second, boss!" Lucas shouted as he took out his flask and took a swig before passing it around so everyone could get a drink.

"Much appreciated, Lucas." Clark took a sip from the flask before he handed it back. He then knelt to Mussolini who started to realize just how screwed he was. The fear on his face made everyone smile. "Get yourself comfortable, Prime Minster. We're on our way to London."
