Chapter 1 - Weasley Grant

"Tick Tock Tick Tock…", went the clock, the faint sounds of it's inner workings the only company to the young 15 year old boy sitting on the hospital bed below it. He was dressed in a bed gown that fell loosely on his thin shoulders, not that it was too big for him but rather him too small for it. His face was pale highlighting the unkempt mass of dark brown hair that sat on his head. Standing up, his knees groaned in protest as he walked to the window positioned at his bedside. Placing his hands on the cool glass plane, he pushed. Cold air rushed into the room, sending the boy's gown billowing back and piercing his lungs as he breathed in. The boy broke into a fit of coughing, his lungs rattling his thin frame.

" Shit. " Weasley cursed beneath his breath.

Looking at the overcast sky outside his window, Weasley's mood worsened even further. He shrugged his head, willing his irritation to go away. Who would he be irritated at? Who could he even blame for this shitty life of his? God? Weasley wasn't a superstitious person.

Gazing outside his window his eyes spied many young couples that were walking hand in hand on the street beneath, the groups of children running around, their bright smiles radiant as the sun. Weasley's heart throbbed, his dissatisfaction with his lot in life only exacerbated with these constant reminders of that which he could only ever yearn to have. Once he would have broken down in tears of despair, but now he knew better. Weasley stood there for a long time, lost in his thoughts

Suddenly, the door to his room burst open. A young girl no older than 5 charged into the room, in her arms lay a basket containing a frenzied mix of roses, fruits and chocolate.

"BROTHER!!"

She screamed in delight. Her very presence lit up the room , the gloomy atmosphere dispelled like mist. Weasley chuckled, smiling for the first time in days as the girl flew into his arms, knocking him back several paces. But he didn't mind. " Lily be gentle!" Another woman said as she stepped into the room. She carried herself well, being graceful and poised. If not for her face showing faint wrinkles that betrayed her age, she could easily be mistaken for a woman in her 20s.

"Hi mama", Weasley said with a grin.

The older woman smiled, her footsteps increasing in speed and before Weasley knew it, she was beside him, her arms holding him in her embrace. " How have you been darling?" She said as she pulled away, her voice full of concern." Just about the same" came his reply," but I keep telling you that you don't have to come by every week. I know you're busy mom."

If Weasley could scoff at himself, he would've. That was a blatant lie. The weekly visits of his dearest family were probably the only thing keeping him sane and his sole motivation to keep on living. Without them he would have probably taken his own life a long time ago.

" So you keep saying, but you know that I want to make sure that you're okay. I'm here for you." A shudder ran down Weasley's spine. Her tone was so tender and loving that he could offer no resistance at all.

" Me too!!" Came the voice of Weasley's younger sister, pouting and seemingly furious at being left out

Weasley beamed and ruffled her hair, " I know sis, love you too" A feeling of warmth and love spread through his frail body, his desire to live on multiplying severalfold.

Weasley and his family passed the time catching up, spending time in the company of one another. They talked about a range of things, from how his sister was performing in school to the recent raise that his mom got to the funny things they've seen that week. Not that he'd seen any.

While some may find doing so boring, Weasley was having the time of his life! It was this one day of the week that he lived for! The one day that he felt truly alive! This was it! And Weasley would enjoy it to the fullest.

Before he knew it, the sun was setting and he had said his goodbyes. "BAM!", the door slammed shut, and the image of his sister's small waving hands disappeared from sight. Once again, he was alone.

'Looks like another week of waiting.'Weasley thought to himself ' Just hang on, just hang on.' Repeated in his head as he lay down. He frowned. His body felt heavier than usual. He was breathing faster as well. Cold sweat beaded his forehead. 'Strange, I feel more tired than usual today. I'll sleep early I guess.'

Weasley propped himself up on his hands, grunting with effort as he moved to the curtains with that thought in mind . He pulled them shut, stealing one last glance at the orange fireball that was slowly descending beneath the horizons before turning back to his bed. His heart was beating even more slowly now, he could feel it. The fatigue that was creeping in weighed on his already frail body like a thousand pounds of lead, making each step back to the bed harder than the last. His world spun around him as he collapsed on his bed, unmoving.

' fuck me, what's happenin...' Weasley's eyeballs rolled back and his eyelids fell shut. As the darkness consumed his vision, Weasley Grant saw his dimly lit bedroom for one last time
