Chereads / Yes, Mr. Barnes. / Chapter 4 - Chapter Three

Chapter 4 - Chapter Three

It's been a week since you started working at the firm. Loki was still around, and you two often met in the mornings before your shift at the coffee shop that you two met at. He'd memorized your coffee and breakfast order, so he was often sitting down at a table with his coffee and your items. There was a morning or two where you were running late, so he'd brought the items to your office. He'd managed to avoid Sylvie, and surprisingly James during the time he spent with you.

Loki spending time with you did not go unnoticed by either of them, or Wanda and Nat for that matter. Wanda would often make sure all calls directed to you went through to James, meaning he would have to care for them. James knew Wanda was going to be on your side when it came to you and him, but he hoped maybe because he was her boss, she'd work in his favor.

James had only spoken to you a few times in the last week you'd been there, but most of it was simple greetings. You hadn't noticed any flustered women in the elevator anymore, but that doesn't mean that wasn't still happening. He was, but he wanted you to think he'd stopped fucking around. He tried avoiding you near the elevators and stairwells as much as he could.

Wanda knew better than to let you get involved with James, she'd worked with him for five years at this point, and was definitely the highest paid receptionist in New York due to how much drama she'd heard being in the middle of the hallway. Nat knew about the conversation between you and James, and what he'd said, the only person that didn't know was you.

Nat wanted to tell you, but Wanda knew you'd probably quit as soon as you knew about his antics with his employees. James knew better than to fuck with Nat, and thought Wanda was too pure to fuck up when he'd hired her; there were also other reasons behind his actions back then.

You smiled as you walked into the coffee shop that morning, knowing Loki would be there to greet you. He smiled when he noticed you walk through the door, waving you over to where he was sitting.

"Glad you could make it this morning." He greeted you. "I missed you yesterday." He commented, gently taking your hand in his.

"I missed you too, Loks." You squeezed his hand gently before tearing into your croissant. You took a bite, chewing it. "I had a meeting early yesterday with Steve and Mr. Barnes. Needed me there for some notes."

Loki nodded, taking a breath. "Mr. Barnes was there?" He asked, shuffling in his seat a little.

You nodded. "Why?"

"Sylvie should've been there instead of you." He replied, suddenly feeling rather protective.

"It's fine, Loki. He didn't even speak to me." You replied, taking a sip of your coffee. "He was staring a little too hard probably, but I wasn't really paying attention." You looked back over at Loki, seeing his face fall slightly from when you'd walked in. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." He replied, slapping a fake grin on his lips. The smile didn't reach his eyes.

"Loki." You warned, giving him a stern look as you squint your eyes. "Tell me."

He sighed, looking down. He licked his lips before he spoke. "I just don't necessarily trust James. He fucks around with too many women, and I don't really want you to be one of them."

You smiled. "It's sweet that you worry, Loki, but I can handle myself. I'm going to assume that there's a boundary set, given that he is the CEO." You explained, trying to get him to understand that you don't want to be involved with James either.

You glanced down at your watch. "We should go." You replied, throwing away the bag of your pastry and grabbing your coffee from the table. Loki followed suit, trailing you as you walked out into the cold.

Loki sighed, chewing on the inside of his lip as he pushed you to the inside of the sidewalk. His hand grazed across the small of your back and he rested it there for a minute. "Y/N, may I ask you a question?" He glanced over at you for a moment before looking down at the ground toward his feet.

"Sure." You replied, sipping on your coffee.

"Would you ever consider a date? With me?" He didn't look up at you, fearing your reaction. He couldn't stop thinking about you since the first time he ran into you in the coffee shop. He'd been thinking about asking you out since he brought you lunch on your first day.

He wanted to make sure James couldn't get to you. He thought of James as dangerous, misogynistic, and overly controlling. He wanted to make sure you knew what he thought of James, despite what you've seen from James yourself.

Compared to your last relationship, Loki was like a dream come true, but you knew you didn't want to get involved with anyone. You weren't going to lie, you did find Loki rather attractive, and you hadn't had sex in a really long time. You just haven't found the right person to not ask questions.

You took a deep breath, clicking your tongue before answering. "Loki, I'm not ready to get involved with anyone—"

"Right, I-I'm sorry." He sighed, looking over at you. "I shouldn't have even—" You help up your hand, stopping him.

You bit the inside of your cheek before continuing. "That doesn't mean we can't do other things." You suggested, looking over at him.

He cleared his throat, understanding your suggestion. He pushed open the door to the Law Firm, holding it open for you. "If that's what you're comfortable with, pet." He mumbled into your ear as you walked by.

You smiled, biting your lip to try to suppress it. You hit the button outside the elevator. You felt Loki trailing behind you. He sighed softly and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Any ground rules?" He asked, leaning over slightly so no one else would hear him.

"Just one." You replied, walking into the elevator. You pressed 18 and 23. He looked over at you, a small smirk on his face from amusement.

"And what is it?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest as the elevator doors closed.

"No questions." You replied, looking over at him. Suddenly you felt nervous. You had plenty of opportunities to hook up with men, but you never took them. The scars. You didn't want them to get involved.

He gave you a slightly puzzled look. "Okay?" He chuckled, licking his bottom lip.

He reached up, letting his fingertips graze the side of your neck. He glanced between your lips and your eyes. You nodded slightly, parting your lips. He leaned down, pulling you to him by the back of your neck.

His lips crashed into yours in a needy frenzy. He hadn't realized how bad he'd wanted you. Now he did. He could feel his cock harden in his pants as you kissed him back, tangling your fingers into his hair. He used his free hand to hit the emergency stop button on the elevator.

His hands moved from your neck to your waist, pushing you to the wall of the elevator. He pressed his hips against you, and swiped his tongue over your bottom lip. You opened your mouth, granting him access. You moaned softly, feeling his tongue and his hands on you.

He pulled back after a moment. Your swollen lips and red cheeks were all he needed to see to know he needed to fuck you. Soon.

He took a deep breath, keeping his hands on your waist. You placed your hands on his chest, looking up at him as you caught your breath. "We should go," you breathed out.

He nodded, pulling away and pulling the knob from the emergency stop. You fixed your hair as the elevator began to move. You stepped away from the wall and next to him.

"Do you want to meet me for lunch later?" Loki asked as he stared at the floor numbers increase as the elevator went up.

"I have to sit in on another meeting today." You explained, clearing your throat and readjusting your stance.

"With who?" He asked, looking down at you. The red in your cheeks had faded to a pink and you were pulling your bottom lip between your teeth.

"Mr. Barnes and Mr. Rogers." You replied, not looking up at him.

"Oh." He replied, chuckling softly to himself. "What about drinks tonight?" He wanted to finish this. He could feel his cock softening finally.

"That sounds great." You gave him a soft smile. "Meet me in my office around 5?"

He nodded, hearing the elevator ding on floor 18. He placed a quick kiss on your cheek. "I'll see you later, pet." He walked out of the elevator.

You took a deep breath, finally feeling like you could calm down. You closed your eyes, listening to the soft elevator music that flooded the space. Within seconds, the elevator dinged, and you were on your floor.

You stepped out of the elevator, trying to avoid Wanda, which was almost impossible since her desk basically sat right in front of it.

"Y/N." Wanda called out. She stood up, grabbing some files from the desk top. "Sylvie isn't here today, so Mr. Barnes wanted me to ask you if you could do these reports for him." She gave you a sad smile as she noticed the flustered state you were in.

You nodded. "Of course. He wants them by the end of the day?" You asked, looking at at least 15 files in your hands.

She nodded. "He said he still wants you in the meeting. The ones with the pink sticky notes need to be done by the end of the day. There's like 7, I think? Sylvie won't be back till Monday, so he just wanted me to give them all to you." She explained quickly as she followed you to your office. She closed the door behind you.

She gave you a wide smile as you placed the files on your desk and you shrugged off your coat. "What?" You asked, sitting down at your desk.

"Who were you on the elevator with? I know it wasn't James, he's been here since 6." She glanced over at the clock, seeing it was 7:30. "And you're late!" She pointed a finger at you and then back to the clock. Her lips curved into a smirk.

"Nobody." You countered, trying to focus on the first file.

"Was it Loki?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest. You bit your lip to stop the smile beginning to form. "It was!" She giggled. "Are you guys like a thing now?"

You shook your head. "Just messing around." You explained, grabbing a pen and writing something down on a sticky note and placing it in the file.

"Since when?" Wanda asked, challenging you for more information. She sat down on the couch on the wall opposite your desk.

"Since," you checked your watch, "7:15." You replied, running your hands over your face as you heard Wanda gasp.

"What the hell did you do in the elevator?" She half-yelled, when there was a knock on your office door.

"Come in!" You called out. The door opened to reveal James. A dark blue suit covered his body with a white undershirt. The top few buttons were open, and black shoes covered his feet.

"Good morning, Y/N." He gave you a soft smile and looked over to see Wanda sitting on your couch. "Wanda, can I speak to her for a minute?"

Wanda nodded, quickly retreating from your office and back to her desk. James closed the door behind her. "I'm sorry to pile those on you, but Sylvie is sick and can't be back till Monday." He sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"It's alright. Wanda told me. I hope she feels better soon." You gave him a soft smile.

"I just wanted to remind you that the meeting is at 12:30. I can take you out to lunch after, if you'd like? I tried to move it so you could have your lunch hour, but the client refused." He explained shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Mr. Barnes, you don't ha—"

"Don't worry about it. You deserve it. You've been doing great." He gave you a small smile as he looked down at you. He noticed your pink, swollen lips and flushed cheeks.

His jaw ticked slightly and he chuckled. "What were you doing in the elevator, Ms. Y/L/N?"

You cleared your throat, looking down at your desk. "It's personal." You muttered.

"This is my building. I think I should know what happens in it." He challenged, leaning against the front of your desk with his hands. His thumbs curled underneath the lip of the wood and his rings shined from the light in your office. His long fingers stretched out across the dark wood.

You cleared your throat, looking up at him. "I'll see you at the meeting, Mr. Barnes." You ended the conversation promptly, giving him a smile and pulling the second file from the pile to work on.

He chuckled, licking his bottom lip and pulling it between his teeth. He pushed himself off your desk and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
