Even if his current power was insufficient to completely destroy it, he didn't have to. He had more tools at his disposal to at the very least try to save Hector.
Ceridwen's ignorance of his abilities was obvious. Her warnings about the dangers were amusing at best. She had no idea just how resourceful he was, especially when he put his mind to it.
