The memory continued, and Death and I were still seated at the other table as we watched Evangeline of the past face one of her greatest struggles.

The three were eating dinner, an extravagant and expensive five-course meal that Mrs. Dante goaded for them to get, saying that she was the one who'd pay for it so they could go out.
Evangeline was hesitant at first but since Dante was shameless, he went for the most expensive meal and ordered for them.
Evangeline was the type to not speak while eating but Mrs. Dante was adamant about getting a story out of her.Β
"I heard you've been going out--" Mrs. Dante began.
"I already told you about this, Ma." Dante interrupted her without looking away from the pasta he was still slurping.
