Once I've calmed down, we decided to sit down on the ground of the In-Between.
"I'm sorry to be asking this, Evangeline." Death said as he held my hand. "Why didn't you think of leaving the relationship?"
I kept quiet, turning away from him. Even though I knew he didn't mean any harm and that I could trust him more than anyone I could when I was alive, I couldn't help but feel defensive.
"By keeping this guy," He continued. "You were slowly killing yourself already, and you didn't even realize it."
I took a deep sigh, trying to piece my thoughts together.
"I just wanted to make things work," I said after a few seconds. "I guess you can say that my judgment was too clouded by my 'love' for him."
Death shook his head in disappointment but muttered, "I understand."
I'm genuinely worried that he 𝘥𝘪𝘥 understand because I had a hard time comprehending my reasoning on why I stayed.
