"I thought...! You said...!" I attempted to articulate my thoughts, but my brain felt like a scrambled mess.
I took a deep breath to calm myself and gather my thoughts. All the while, Death was watching me in amusement as my face turned various shades of red.
"I was serious when I told you that I've fallen." Death continued when he saw that I had finally calmed down. "Seeing Boss sing his confession to you made me realize that I, too, had fallen for you."
"But you said you were joking!"
"I chickened out." Death confessed, lowering his face with a shy demeanor.
"You said Deaths don't lie!"
"I didn't lie, per se!" He insisted. "Wait, I said that?"
"You did!"
"I don't recall," he whistled, feigning innocence.
I pouted, my eyebrows knitting together in frustration and playful annoyance.
"You're so..."
I sighed, allowing the weight of the moment to settle, my eyes closed and my head shaking slightly.
