Chereads / THE RISE OF WHITE CONQUEROR / Chapter 13 - Jobless

Chapter 13 - Jobless

Everyone's status flared up in front of them, Kelly was taken aback by it, as he looked around, he could see every student looked on in surprise, their eyes wide as, they witnessed the strange phenomenon in front of them.

Sir William continued his explanation after that, but none of the students were listening to him now, they all were too engrossed and thrilled to listen to him, after a while their status stopped glowing and they could information written on it. Everyone was visibly excited.

"I realize you're all impressed, but don't forget to check your stats, okay?"

Sir William smiled wryly as he reminded the students to confirm their stats. His voice brought them all back to their senses and they gave Sir William a brief look before hurriedly checking their stats.

Kelly returned his own gaze back down to his status. On it, he found written—

KELLY KAMIMURA, AGE: 18, MALE

JOB: NONE

LEVEL: 1

WISDOME: 2

STAMINA: 3

STRENGTH: 2

SPEED: 2

ENDURANCE: 1

SOUL STRENGTH: 50

MAGIC: LIGHTNING MAGIC, SUMMONING MAGIC

SKILLS: LANGUAGE COMPREHENSION, SOUL-LID

—the above information. When Kelly looked at it even, he couldn't help himself but feel excited, he felt like some video game character who got his initial Stats. Like Kelly everyone else was also engrossed looking at their status plate. Seeing that Sir William started explaining about the status plate.

"Everyone got a good look at their stats? Alright, let me explain them from the top. First, we have your level. See it? That number grows as your other stats grow. The highest level is 100, and when you've reached that you're at your limits as a mortal. For now you all don't need to know about what's beyond level 100 but let's just say it'll be a long journey"

So, it was like that, raising my level won't increase my stats but the other way around through increasing my stats I can hope to increase my level.

"Your stats will naturally increase as you train, and you can also use magic or magic-imbued items to raise your stats and lastly you can straightforwardly kill other beings to raise your level. Also, those with a high magic stat will naturally grow faster than others. because a person's mana assists in the growth of other stats. Later on, you'll all get to choose equipment that corresponds to your individual stats. The items in our treasury will be yours for the taking! You're the heroes who are going to save our kingdom after all!"

"Next up, do you all see that little box that says job in it? Put simply, that refers to your natural aptitude. It's directly linked to the skills box in the bottom, but not everyone gets a job even if there whole life passes by it means they haven't lived up to their natural potential so, most of the people's Jobs displays 'none' in it, it's very common but there are some people who are born with a job as I said before jobs are directly linked with the skill's you have so, if someone have more than one combat skills their Jobs are basically combat based and if someone have more than one non-combat skills or if their non-combat skills are of higher rank than they will most probably have a non-combat based job, nevertheless Jobs are rare and seeing you all are Heroes I am sure you will definitely have a Job"

Kelly looked back to his status and strangely enough he could see nothing. He thought he was not the only one with no job but, when he looked around everyone was looking at their status with sparkling eyes, even Sumire was visibly excited.

'Maybe that's how one feels, when after graduation everyone gets a Job but they are the only one Jobless.'

Kelly felt complicated when he found he was the only one with no job but when he remembered what sir William said before how most people are born with no Job, he decided not to think too deeply on it.

'Well, most people are jobless in this world, maybe I'll get one in the future.'

"But what is the advantage of having a job?" Hiroya who has been silent until now asked Kelly couldn't help but sigh when he saw Hiroya childishly containing his excitement and speak in a serious tone, like Kelly all his friends too realized that and were holding back their laughter.

"Just now you kids asked if you can get more skills than you already have!!"

"…."

No one said anything. Slowly but surely, they all understood the meaning behind the Knight Captain's words; they all with bated breath waited as the captain continued.

"That's a natural question what is the advantage of a Job if I have to say it then it would be that, the chances of getting a derivative skill increases ten-fold"

"Sometimes, if a 'job' is rare enough like A Hero, then those chances are increased up to 100-fold. And not only that 'job' helps in increasing your stats exponentially. Think of it as a huge advantage you gain if you have one" Sir William said so when looking towards Agawa.

"what's a derivative skill"

"Those were skills that were acquired by spending a lifetime polishing one's talents, something one acquired by surpassing their limits in a certain field. Put simply, it was when someone suddenly discovered the trick to doing something they'd always struggled to before, and rapidly increased their proficiency with it"

As skills were basically the innate talents you were born with, we cannot increase the number of skills but that isn't true for derivative skills, these skills are part of our original skill but each derivative skill has its own benefit it increases your proficiency with the certain part of the skill.

'Damn it, that's a huge loss if I wanted to increase my number of skills.'

Kelly frustratingly thought so when he heard that.

"But you will only get a derivative skill when your skill is fully evolved"

When Sir William said that everyone had a question mark hovering above their head.

"What does that mean? Didn't you just say skills are what we get from birth and can't change it in any way then; how can we evolve them?"

"Yes, I did but you have to understand one thing before we go forward humans are not the one who control skills but the other way around"

'Interesting, first the pope. Now, him. It's like they are saying that skills have their own mind.'

"Well for that to understand firstly, do you all see something like soul strength written on your status plate" when the captain said that everyone nodded.

"Soul strength literally means the strength of your soul. Since ancient times. We all believe, transmigration of souls is endless until one achieves liberation from that process. It is believed that the eternal core, of an individual or soul is connected with your skills so, larger your soul strength the more higher-level skill you will get"

'Wait, the liberation they are talking about isn't MOKSHA In Hinduism and Buddhism the process of birth and rebirth— transmigration of souls—is endless until one achieves MOKSHA OR RELEASE from that process. Don't tell me they are connected somehow.'

"It also means that if you have a D-Rank skill with continuous rebirth it can evolve into a S-Rank skill but that is hypothetical who knows how many times you have to die for you to evolve your skills from D-Rank to S-Rank but that doesn't mean that we can never evolve our skills, we can it's possible to increase the rank of a skill one level with sheer willpower of our soul, but that isn't possible for every skills, skills are unusual to begin with as Lotario-sama explained the skills chooses the individuals so when your soul strength isn't high enough for them to show their full capabilities they adapts to the individual's power level so, sometimes people may possess a higher level skill and they wouldn't even know about it"

"So, how can we be sure if our skills are evolved enough"

"Hmmm, as I explained skills are deeply connected with your soul, it isn't like you would know but believe it or not you will get a feeling that it isn't at its full capabilities that's how you can be sure"

After listening to Sir William, Kenji asked in a bold voice that conveyed his suspicion for the captain's words.

"Is there any evidence of what you are telling is true"

"We have many examples and records that states that sometimes the skills we have couldn't reach their full potential, in the past there were many who were able to increase the Rank of their skills, The Hero who was summoned before you were even able to break past the limits of his Soul and increased the rank of his skill from B to S-rank"

When Sir William finished explaining everyone thought the same thing, how can they evolve their skills but before anyone can ask that, Sir William himself answered it.

"I know what you are all thinking, I have been there too, but it isn't as easy as you all think we are talking about Soul's here they don't have a physical body we can't train it to become stronger nor we can change it, your soul stays the same since the moment you are born and the number of people who can break past there limits are too rare there are only handful of individuals who were able to achieve this and most of them were Heroes, so it's better if you don't think about it too much because, if something goes wrong YOU WILL DIE"

When sir William said that most students lost their motivation to try and do anything stupid but some were still thinking about the potential of it one of them being Kelly.

'I understand it being dangerous and all but still maybe it's worth a shot but what Sir William said is too abstract to work with how can one even break past the limits of their soul can a human even do that.'

When the Knight Captain saw the faces of the students who weren't ready to give up, he said with a serious face and almost in a threatening voice.

"Remember one thing Skills are not weapons if you think of them as that, you will become their puppets, some skills are really dangerous they tamper with your feelings and if you are not careful, they will take control of you, and it's doubly true for High Rank Skills."

After getting another warning, the students for once realize this is not a game and skills are not some amazing playthings to be toyed around with. Taking a look at all the students' faces, Sir William spoke again in his usual cheerful voice with some warmth in it.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, I just want all of you to stay safe, now that important parts are taken care of. Next up… well, your stats are simply what they say they are. The average for most stats at level 1 is around 1. But you're all heroes, so you surely have far higher stats than that! Man, I'm so jealous of you guys! Oh yes, don't forget to report your stats to me. I'll need to know them to decide how to best train you guys." The average stats for someone at level 1 were around 1. When Kelly heard that he looked back to his status.

'Well, this means I am not average right?'

Kelly wiped off the cold sweat he had been having for some time now.

'Well, my stats are above average and my magic aptitude is rare too and I have two skills I may not be a cheat but I am not a mediocre either if I had been stuck in some stupid cliché situation, I swear to God I would have lost it by now.'

The stupid cliché situation Kelly was talking about was referring to him being a side character with average or no abilities, since the day he heard that they were going to get powers. He had been constantly worried about being left behind by his classmates.

'It also guarantees my protection. They can't hurt me if I am useful to them.'

The 'THEY' Kelly was thinking about mainly referred to the people of this world ever since coming here Kelly has been anxious, tired and confused, his shoulders had been stiff throughout his time here. He has been constantly thinking about his safety and when he has time to relax, he has been worried about Sumire. Now for once at that moment he finally let go of all his worries and heaved a long sigh in a relaxed manner.

While Kelly was thinking all that. Agawa was the first one to step up and put his hands on the platform. After letting out a strange red colour light, the platform printed the status of Agawa Reiichi. After reading it again and again Sir William let out a stupid voice.
