Chapter 151 - CHAPTER 151: One Thing After Another

Han Shuo only got to know the old assassin Lucky's skill after the two of them flew to Calvert's house. A decent assassin would hold his position before making a move on his target. He would only allow his target to feel his presence at the moment he made his move.

Lucky was quite professional in this respect. After entering Calvert's house, he first crouched on the roof and looked around the entire building, then showed Han Shuo the use of each room. He clearly explained which was the living room, which was the master bedroom, as well as the bathrooms.

It looked like Lucky was very familiar with all the architectural styles and must have thought about it a lot. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to get so much information from just a quick glance at the floor plan.

Lucky changed into a grey robe that matched the colour of the walls. As he slowly walked along the wall, no one noticed any disturbance, even as the bright rays of the moon rained down.

Under Lucky's gaze, Han Shuo pulled out a similar robe and followed Lucky, moving towards the roof of the brightly lit living room.

Han Shuo's breathing became measured and steady as they approached the living room, and the rate of his heartbeat suddenly became quite slow as well, matching the pace of his breathing. Even the heat emanating from his body began to diminish as they approached the living room. By the time they were close enough, he could be mistaken for a shingle on the roof if he didn't move.

Lucky was unable to hide his body as well as Han Shuo had, even after taking a pill. When he finally reached the top of the roof, Lucky looked at Han Shuo in disbelief as he was incredibly surprised by Han Shuo's control over his body.

Since reaching the True Demon Realm, Han Shuo could feel that his body was indeed more agile and skilled than before. He could adapt his body state to all sorts of situations by making his own adjustments, making it very easy for him to do something like hide his presence.

Since Clark might be in the living room, they didn't dare lift the roof tiles to look inside. They rested their cheeks on the roof and tried to listen to the conversation inside.

"All right, let's do it like this. Keep your wits about you, Lawrence seems to have been spotted in Valen City lately, so he might try to make trouble for you." Clark's voice rang out as he reminded Calvert to be careful.

"Lawrence is only the Finance Minister's son. Isn't he courting death if he comes to find me in Valen City?" Calvert didn't mind at all as his hearty laugh rang out like a bell.

"Uncle Calvert, Lawrence's identity isn't that simple. However, you must always be on your guard. My father will send people to protect you in two days." Clark reminded Calvert.

"I've got the chief worried. Hey, it's getting late, Why don't you rest here tonight? I've prepared some special entertainment for you." Calvert chuckled.

"That's all right, thank you, Uncle. However, some strangers have been showing up in Valen City lately and I have a lot of things to take care of. I won't be staying here tonight." Clark excused himself and seemed ready to leave.

His ear lifted from the roof tiles, Han Shuo stood up and glanced at Lucky. The two left without a sound and quickly walked away from the mansion.

Lucky had decided to change the plan since Clark was going to leave and wanted to get rid of him while he was travelling. He would have to go through a certain street after leaving Calvert's house. There were all sorts of buildings and several leafy trees on that street, making it a good place to make a move no matter which direction they came from.

"You hide and wait in a tree, pick the best time after I make my move to attack Clark." Lucky instructed and then crouched down on a nearby wall like a gecko, melting into the night.

Lucky had no way of knowing when it was a good time to make a move. Lucky could only let Han Shuo try to grasp the critical moment himself.

After a while, a horse-drawn carriage left Calvert's house, the clatter of the horse's hooves piercing the air. The groom was a muscular guard, waving the whip in his hand to spur the horse on. As the carriage passed by where Lucky was hiding, a figure flashed out of the corner of the hiding place so quickly that it seemed to have no weight and stuck to the bottom of the carriage.

Han Shuo saw all of this clearly from his vantage point in the distance. He took a deep breath as he watched the carriage approach the large tree in which he was hidden. Keeping a close eye on things, he tightened his grip on the Demonslayer's Edge.

At that moment, a cracking sound came from the bottom of the carriage as it exploded into pieces. Shards of wood, sand, and dust flew everywhere as a milky-white sword aura shot two metres into the air and flared up over the now destroyed carriage. The exploding combat aura was like a bristly porcupine, and Lucky had the body of the porcupine within the spikes of the combat aura.

It was then that Han Shuo discovered that Lucky was an assassin who also happened to be a Swordmaster. The milky white combat aura flashed by and disappeared as if it had never appeared. The pieces of the carriage were shattered and scattered on the ground. A person inside the carriage was full of bloody holes and had died instantly, while the groom at the front of the carriage was running for his life.

Han Shuo had been extremely surprised at first, thinking that Lucky had succeeded so quickly. However, when he looked at the corpse, he realised that the person in the carriage was completely unfamiliar to him. It wasn't Clark at all. The scattered footsteps approaching rapidly from all directions immediately made Han Shuo realise the seriousness of the situation. "We've been tricked, retreat!" Han Shuo immediately shouted from the treetop and jumped down from the dense growth.

Lucky's expression remained calm as he scanned the surroundings and called back quietly, "We'll split up and go through the surrounding houses."

Han Shuo nodded and didn't say much, jumping into the air and landing on a roof. When he looked back, he saw that Lucky had already miraculously disappeared.

Han Shuo's heart became even calmer at this point as he coldly looked around and noticed that several soldiers had appeared on the streets in front and behind. These men were charging down the street on horseback and several of them had drawn their bows to shoot arrows in his direction.

Clark, with an easy expression on his face, walked out from the direction of Calvert's house with another middle-aged, well-built knight. Their glances landed on Han Shuo as they spurred the battle steeds below them to charge over.

There were many houses in the area, but as Han Shuo concentrated and listened, he noticed that there didn't seem to be anyone living in them. He didn't know if they had been moved before. Only now did he regret that he hadn't used his extremely sensitive senses to investigate his surroundings. He had been too focused on killing Clark and hadn't checked the details thoroughly.

Han Shuo dodged nimbly as the arrows flew over, noticing that many more soldiers were approaching. Weighing his options, he cast the 'Demonic Ninth Heaven Art', sending himself into the air and away like a hawk.

The numerous arrows whistled and were deflected by the Demonslayer's Edge. In the blink of an eye, he'd flown out of the encirclement and landed on a large tree in the distance.

Although Han Shuo hadn't mastered the art yet, he had no problem flying through the air. It was because of this art that he was able to escape from the soldiers.

In addition, Han Shuo discovered that compared to the levitation spells that the Archmages could cast in this world, the 'Demonic Ninth Heaven Art' was much more advanced. None of the levitation spells the Archmages could cast even came close to the speed and manoeuvrability of his art.

He took a deep breath and surveyed his surroundings, noting that Clark had nearly a hundred soldiers with him. These people were conducting a carpet search, going from room to room looking for Lucky. They had given up the hunt for Han Shuo after his departure and concentrated on finding Lucky.

Just as Han Shuo began to worry about Lucky, a figure using a levitation spell quickly approached from the distance. The moon was covered in a cloud of dark mist in an instant, and the already dim sky instantly darkened. As the figure drew closer, it pulled a white bone staff from its wide sleeves and chanted a spell in a low voice.

Suddenly, scores of skeletal, zombie and ghoul warriors, as well as gargoyles and hate warriors appeared, charged at the soldiers.

Another low chant rang out as bone arrows flew wildly through the air and slammed into the soldiers, causing them to scream in agony.

"Oh my God, it's an Archmage-level Necromancer!" Calvert suddenly cried out in shock.

Han Shuo was also taken aback as he stared at the necromancer that had appeared in the air, completely taken aback by the destructive power of necromancy magic.
