Chapter 39 - CHAPTER 38: Another Coolie

"Those are the hooting calls of a Frost Eagle. They're solitary magical creatures... We've already hunted one, so why not leave after killing this one?" A look of joy appeared on Gene's face as he looked at everyone and asked.

A Frost Eagle's soul core was at level 4, worth much more than a Windblade Wolf's. Even though everyone had put in a lot of effort to kill the first one, it meant that they were now more experienced in dealing with Frost Eagles. Everyone was silent after Gene's words, so Fanny looked at Han Shuo and asked, "Bryan, what do you think?"

"There is a large amount of resources in front of us. I think we should take it!" Han Shuo scratched his head and smiled sincerely.

"Then all right, everyone make your preparations. We'll return to the academy after taking the Frost Eagle Core. If our necromancy major can obtain two level four magical creature cores during this outing, then the other majors will not dare to look down on us." Fanny nodded and ordered everyone to leave.

When the group heard her words, it was as if they remembered the outrages they'd suffered before. Each person began to move angrily, following Han Shuo and Fanny's footsteps in the direction of the Frost Eagle's call.

Han Shuo walked ahead like a leader, and everyone else wore a 'natural' expression. None of them had any other opinions, and subconsciously, they had all begun to change the way they thought about Han Shuo.

By now, no one dared to treat Han Shuo as an errand slave to be bullied at will. Their glances towards Han Shuo subtly contained a few more hints of respect and fear.

The group of people hurried on their way, following the calls of the Frost Eagle. After a while, they arrived at the Frost Eagle's location, but were shocked by the scene they saw.

Under the pure and bright moonlight, the group saw a tall, strapping, handsome youth with tousled silver hair, wielding a longsword to battle the Frost Eagle in the sky

He wore a simple paladin's robe, and his shoulders, chest and stomach were covered in armour that glittered with silver light. His clothes and appearance gave him the appearance of a knight. As he wielded the long sword in his hand, beams of milky white light flashed brightly, causing the frost eagle circling overhead to caw incessantly as it was struck.

"Oh my god, a milky white combat aura... he's an Earth Rider Knight! Ooh... he's so pretty!" Bella squealed, her eyes fixed on the body of this Earth Rider Knight. A boy-crazy look came over her face.

Several other female students beside her also showed a mesmerised expression, their eyes shining as they gazed at the Earth Rider who was easily handling the Frost Eagle.

Han Shuo furrowed his brow, also surprised by the earth rider's strength. The last time Han Shuo and the band of 12 had faced a Frost Eagle, they had found it extremely difficult and had made a monumental effort before finally killing the Frost Eagle. Not only did this Earth Rider have no trouble, he handled it with ease. After the white combat aura was projected, the Frost Eagle emitted a series of deep keens.

A beam of white combat aura rose shakily until it pointed directly at the badly injured Frost Eagle. The Frost Eagle seemed to sense the danger as it flapped its wings in preparation for flight.

The earth rider's body had been on the ground until that moment, when it suddenly leapt through the air in an accelerated leap. The long sword slashed past the Frost Eagle's belly as another wailing bird call sounded. The Frost Eagle staggered in a listless downward fall.

"That was amazing!" Bella's eyes gleamed as she giggled with delight.

The Earth Rider walked over to the Frost Eagle's body, made a flicking motion with his long sword and removed the Frost Eagle's core. He then smiled faintly as he took large strides towards Han Shuo and co. He swept his eyes over the band and then bowed urbanely, "Knight Clark greets these noble mages."

"Hello Clark. You're so strong! You killed a Frost Eagle all by yourself, you're so amazing!" Bella laughed modestly and spoke softly, as if she were a completely different person.

Except that Clark's eyes weren't on Bella, but on Fanny, as if he was waiting for Fanny's answer. This made Bella feel a little uncomfortable.

"We are students and teachers of the Babylonian Academy of Magic and Strength. We've ventured into the Dark Forest for training this time, it's very nice to meet you Clark." Fanny's expression didn't change as she tilted her body slightly and smiled in response.

"I see... I'm also here to train in the Dark Forest. The magical creatures here are very strong and very good for increasing your strength. I didn't think I'd meet anyone, heh." Clark smiled slightly as he looked at Fanny. There was a strange scent in the look that made Han Shuo slightly uncomfortable.

"Master Fanny, the Frost Eagle was killed by him, I think we should go back now." Han Shuo looked at Clark for a few moments and understood why he felt uncomfortable with Clark's look. It turned out that Clark's look was a bit like Gene's. He didn't take it to the level that Gene did, but that already subtly explained a question - this Clark seemed to be interested in Fanny's good looks.

"Yes, Master Fanny, it's getting more dangerous. For the safety of the students we should go back to the academy." Gene seemed to have noticed the threat as well, because his look towards Clark wasn't too friendly. He immediately agreed with Han Shuo's suggestion.

Fanny nodded at Han Shuo and Gene's words and was about to agree when Clark suddenly said with a smile, "If the noble mages don't mind, I can join your group and accompany you. I think it would be mutually beneficial for us to go together and a corresponding reduction in danger. I wonder if everyone is amenable to this proposal?"

"Yes, if a Knight of the Earth Rider is with us, then our booty this time will surely eclipse that of the Light Major." Bella's face lit up with joy and she jumped in without waiting for Fanny's approval.

Some of the other female students rushed to agree after Bella had spoken, only Lisa was unmoved as she stared at Han Shuo in strange contemplation. Some of the male students hadn't spoken. They didn't seem to care.

After Clark's words and Bella's agreement, Fanny began to waver in her original intention to leave. She had felt particularly tempted when Bella had said that their haul would dwarf that of the Light Major.

Don't agree, don't agree. He's smiling, but it's not a good thing. This boy obviously has bad intentions, don't agree to travel with him. Han Shuo looked at Fanny and repeated in his mind.

"All right, then we'll have to force our way in. We're a group of mages, so it will be a great help if a strong earth rider like you joins us." Fanny hesitated for a while and finally agreed.

Han Shuo was extremely disappointed, but he didn't show it. Instead, he exclaimed in amazement and said, "Aiya, we came in pursuit of the Frost Eagle, but you had already killed it. Ai, the level 4 core of a magical creature, gone just like that."

Clark's face wore a puzzled expression after hearing Han Shuo's words and he looked at Han Shuo with some confusion. He asked, "You were the ones who originally pursued this Frost Eagle?"

Nodding his head firmly, Han Shuo said with a wistful expression, "Ah yes, but we didn't think you would kill it."

Fanny was taken aback by Han Shuo's words and glared at him furiously. Just as she was about to explain that this wasn't the case, Clark hesitated and then, with some heartbreak, removed the Frost Eagle's core. He forced a smile and offered it to Fanny, saying, "I see. Since that is the case, I will return it to you. Master Fanny, you must accept it."

"Accept, we'll definitely accept!" Han Shuo smiled as he approached and had already taken the core from Clark's hands before Fanny had responded. He handed it to Lisa who was standing next to him and said happily, "Heh heh. Clark the Knight is such a good man. He's so willing to give us a level 4 core. I think he'll be even more straightforward in the upcoming trials."

Lisa's two eyes sparkled as she happily and unapologetically put the core away. She nodded at Han Shuo in praise and surreptitiously stuck her thumb up in compliment.

Fanny started to explain but found that the core had disappeared into Lisa's pocket in an instant. She involuntarily showed an expression that was neither laughing nor crying, rolled her eyes at Han Shuo and Lisa after shaking her head, but said nothing else.

A level 4 core was equivalent to one hundred gold coins. One hundred gold coins wasn't a small sum even for an ordinary little nobleman. No wonder Clark felt a bit of pain after Han Shuo had taken it so easily from his hands.

"Master Fanny, now that we've been joined by the noble and generous Earth Rider, I think we can continue south. There are surely even stronger magical creatures there. Once we have obtained a level 3 magical creature core, we can certainly strut around the academy with pride after this outing." Han Shuo spurred Fanny on slightly, thinking that if Clark dares to look at my wife twice, then he must at least provide some free labour. It would be a shame not to use the earth rider.

Fanny's spirits returned when she heard that she could strut around the academy with pride. She nodded and smiled charmingly, "Very well, then, we shall continue south. Noble Knight Clark, we'll have to ask you to take care of us later."

Clark bowed humbly and smiled politely, "No problem, I'm happy to be of service.

Since you insist on staying, see if I don't play you to death. Han Shuo was extremely unhappy with Clark's actions and his mind raced furiously as he considered various evil plans.
